Comparing GW2 to ESO I can see the strong difference between B2P and P2P. Both games released strong, both games had similar quality (in different aspects of a game) but Zenimax shows strong development where GW2 is lacking for two years now. ZOS show they care (no matter what you tell) ArenaNet show new stuff for their shop. ZOS offered real fresh content within weeks, which just got a nice update, ArenaNet offers ... well, big talk and little result.

ESO is a good game, with good development and a dedicated team. They do some weird things, but much more good stuff and I am happy that a game like ESO exists. Go on ZOS! (and no, I don't do much pvp ;) )

So this beta testing phase will soon be over and it will finally be released for consoles. Good job Zenimax, only 6 months after official launch.

I absolutely love this game, its just fun and at my own pace I never feel rushed or pigeon-holed into any kind of spec or role,(granted LA and staff builds rule supreme for the moment but only in min-max elitism situations I typically avoid anyways) but as it stands its a great game with quality content and alot of lore and immersion as well as first person that dosent suck.

I know that there are those out there that wish this game will go f2p, not sure why and I for one hope it does not (brings in the rift raft), but I don't think it will happen.  Pop is healthily, commuting is really coming together very nicely.  game is fun (for me, and those subbing).  Best thing since DAoC in my humble opinion.

When I said i had "time", i meant virtual time, i got no RL "time" for you.

I usually leave games that switch to F2P. Even if I return paying the sub option, it's not the same; the development strategy and plan clearly changes. I hope ESO stays sub.

Well the game seems healthy population wise but of course with megaserver tech it's hard to gauge but that's probably the best thing about that tech:less trolls whining about 'falling numbers' and 'game dying'

Most special cases have moved to Wildstar and now probably AA, so the community is much better.

And I just finished building a decent PC for my GF (who decided to try it on my PC and liked it enough to buy a copy) so at least now I can use those Rings of Mara :)

This game looks pretty decent when I played it in the beta but I didn't buy it. Just think it costs too much to pay a subscription on top of the box price. There are clearly still people who love the subscription model and the exclusivity it brings, and ESO fills that niche well. It is just not my cup of tea. I will try it out again if and when it goes free to play. For now my focus will be on ArchAge.

When is this game coming to consoles? Does anyone have any recent info?

When ESO becomes a multiplayer game, it becomes interesting again. Until the phasing and 50% solo content is out of the window, I don't understand why mmorpg.com even features it. Could as well feature Skyrim multiplayer mod... then again that mod allows you to play with your friends the whole game.

Bought this on launch and liked the style, was very upset about the instancing (wife and I play together). It broke the game. Then we played Archeage for a few months and were convinced Archeage was the better game (we like Sandbox RPG's). Now that we have paid for and gotten through head start and 1 week of the live game I have to say there is one MAJOR FEATURE that ESO has that Archeage lacks - the ability for people to ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME! I can't remember the last time I Queued to get into a game I paid for - yet Trion and Archeage have decided EVERY player needs to queue and wait to play their game. At least with ESO you can pay to play - with Archeage you Pay to Wait and maybe play - eventually - but probably not with your friends because they will be stuck in queue. :)

A lot of MMOs go for the short game, they want to grab players quickly, grab cash and move on. Looking at ESO I think the devs are looking at the long game and this excites me. I enjoy the game now but with new content and expansions that enjoyment keeps going. Personally I am happy to pay for ESO.

I would never go back to this game even if it went free to play. When I bought it I had to force myself to play and after 4 days quit, went back a couple of months later to try it again and it was still the same, lasted a day this time. Nope, not the game for me, I just did not find it fun.

On the other hand, if it goes F2P, I will not return. And I feel alot more players would leave also. F2P games seem sub-par to me, you cannot immerse yourself in them with the childish elitists and gold spammers. Not saying everyone in those games are. Just saying that there are enough to break any immersion you try to have at any time.

I prefer sub games, but for different reasons.  Childish behavior and gold spammers are just as common in the sub games I have played as the F2P games.  Hell look at WoW it's one of the worst games I have played as far as spam and bad behavior go.

And having said that i've been playing ESO since early access and i love the game and i would just quit if it ever goes F2P.

I guess you have hardly seen any f2p launch/relaunch in recent years then

F2P for ESO will boost the game significantly, expect a cashshop to sell stupid coloured pixels but all that will make them a ton more money I am sure they wont be too bothered by a few people leaving

F2P is not f2p really, as there are still sub options for many benefits and a cash shop for other benefits

But many games are well populated and doing VERY well as f2p

I've always been a huge RPG fan and a mmoRPG fan. I think Zenimax is on the right track for my playstyle. If the could ever find a way to make loading screens disappear I would be in my glory.

I hope the game stays subscription because I just like it when everyone pays the same and has equal access to all the content. Cash shops just have a way of killing immersion for me.

I would first like to go on record as saying that I HATE you for making me defend F2P because of how much I hate it but...Neverwinter is far far FAR from dead.

Admitting that a F2P game has players or makes money is not advocating it. I don't like F2P games but I will say this. TESO is not worth paying a monthly fee for. The game isn't good enough for it.

That, is also not advocating F2P, its admitting that the game sucks and isn't worth paying for. Now Archeage, that IS worth paying a monthly sub for, but not as long as it has a F2P option because I will not pay a company while still having to deal with the drama that comes with F2P, its like Barrens chat squared.

    SWToR, EQ, Aion, LOTRO, APB...

When someone has their head so far in the sand they make a statement like he did, it's never worth it to try and pull it out.

How so?  You can play them without spending money.  Even with the lousy model for F2P, TOR gives away the best part of it for free.  They are what this industry has termed F2P.  There is no initial purchase required.  You can download each of them and play the game.  May not be with all the bells and whistles, but you can play without time limit.

APB has recently even had its CEO say that they are working on Xbone and PS4 versions with a 2015 release. It has done incredibly well as a F2P title.

In addition....Path of Exile, Marvel Universe....

Really?  It never really irritated me that much.   But if an F2P is done right, it can work.  APB...I don't even think I noticed a difference in population at all.  Was always terrible.  But great game.

I have been playing since the first beta and the game has come a long way. I don't think it will go F2P. If it did, I wouldn't play it. I think having the sub is a good thing.

    -K.
