The reason why game's don't seem to do a lot of different things is because they want to make a profit instead of going bankrupt by introducing things that many will likely not enjoy. Considerate game design has always made the most money in video game history. If you study into how the best selling games are designed you will see the simplicity that supports the player through it's virtual space. Instead it's better to build new things on top of existing designs that has worked for many player's.
Can only reinvent the wheel so many times before it's not a wheel anymore.
I nearly flipped my lid when someone in the titan article started complaining because the game was going to be like Sims and FPS. No wonder the mmorpg genre is a giant stagnant pile of sameyness. Wanna make sure the Stupids don't get scared and confused and wander on back to their previous wow clone.
so in other words it will be a huge game where anyone can do anything they want, including ganking people whenever or wherever they want, making it a miserable experience for all who dont want to be in a gankfest or race for neat looking gear. i can see why hes not at wow any more. the people they have there are already clueless, getting rid of this guy only served to narrow down the number of people to blame for wow failure.
fail
sigh.
It's ok that these games exist. Really. Here's your "bit" for the day. People like these games.
As long as the developers are realistic about their population numbers it's "ok" for them to make games that people like.
you don't like it? don't play it.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Welp, can write this one off. People claiming he wasn't the reason for Firefall's ridiculously long dev cycle and complete and utter lack of direction simply don't know what they're talking about. With Kern in charge, the game had zero direction. Hell, they completely re-did the damn thing what, three times?
Sorry, but a game where you had nothing to do but run around, collect resources, and shoot bugs for the sake of shooting bugs doesn't have 'soul'. Hell, it's barely a game. Yes, the older crafting system was better, but other than that the current game is far better than anything produced during the Age of Kern, and if he were still calling the shots over there I doubt the game would be around.
Once the competent people at Red5 finish 'de-Kernifying' the game and no longer have to play catch-up, I suspect the game will improve by leaps and bounds. As it is the game is good, but had they taken this direction at the outset instead of dicking around with Kern's 'vision', it probably would have been epic at release.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!
