People will call me crazy but I played archeage like 5 years ago maybe longer with some craptastic chinese game company, only it was NOT called archeage back then.

I consider myself a bit of a graphics snob, but even I have to disagree with this game having "bad" graphics.  I'm running the game in 1920x1080 on high settings with anti-aliasing on, and I think the visuals look pretty good.  I would put it in about the same category as the other fantasy MMO Trion runs: Rift.  I wouldn't say they are the best graphics out there, but for an MMO, they're pretty good.

You're not going to get super-detailed models like you would in a single-player game, as that just doesn't work in MMO's because of the volume of players and different items/armor/spells.  But there are plenty of MMO's with worse graphics (like World of Warcraft and it's low res textures and blocky models).  Someone compared it to Age of Conan, but I don't really see THAT much of a major difference between the actual texture/model quality of those two games.  AoC might be a bit better.

I think the complaints mostly seem to be that people simply don't "like" the Asian style of the game.  It's certainly not my favorite either, but there's nothing "wrong" with it.

It has its pluses and minuses but it's hardly worthy of either "best ever" or "worst ever" graphics lists.

On the plus side it has probably the best water and waves I've ever seen in an MMO and the draw distance is fantastic.... you get up high enough and you can see clear across a couple of zones.

The "one body fits all" for each race is chintzy but the face variety is outstanding, On the other hand trees, especially, do seem to pop into view in a jarring way sometimes, but then again, the enormous variety of player-grown plants, trees and animals is staggering.

Combat animations are very well done and feel very satisfying, but the the mount animations just feel "off" to me.... they're too "jumpy."

There's nothing in the graphics that would make me stay away and it's a helluva lot better than most other Asian MMOs in its absence of little girl pedo races... which IS something that I find annoying about many others including FF.

Your right, now that i compare it more, it is about the same. I shouldent of put bad graphics. And you guys were right it is the art style. I will see if i can get use to it. Thanks for all the posts. I better becarful though, last time i said i was sorry, and changed my point of view, due to the peoples responses, they banned me lol.

But thank you for explaining the difference i wasent seeing, between bad graphics, and art style, and how this doesnt have bad graphics, just a different art style.

While many people like very different things, I can't figure out how anyone, like the game or not, could call Archeages graphics bad...

This is one of the most beautiful games I have played. To call these grpahics "terrible" is absurd. You don't have to think they are the best, but to say terrible is ridiculous as it gets.

This game was not designed for you, and our community is better off for it.

People amaze me on these forums.  So many don't have middle ground.  It's either the second coming or armageddon.  The graphics aren't state of the art, but they are definitely not terrible.

I am glad you are taking another look OP. On my 770 the graphics are much better in AA than AoC. Actually AoC is starting to look dated compared to a few newer MMOS.

I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of the graphics. For some reason screenshots have always looked better than actually being in the game. And yes I do play on max settings DX11. Something about it just never looked good to me I can't explain it.

I haven't played much since launch though even as an archeum founder. I don't have time for queues so I'm just waiting for some of the hype to die down. Not complaining just patiently waiting :-p too many great games these days to get upset about a queue.

They fixed the que issue with today's update. AFK players get kicked out a lot quicker. I'm sure if you try it starting today you won't have a problem.

As for GFX card struggling...I have a pretty decent card but it would overheat constantly and cause issues after 5 min of playing. I raised the gfx card fan to high levels and that fixed the issue. The fan noise is a bit annoying but it's not that bad - I'd recommend trying that before searching for a new card.

Finally, a couple of days ago I was sailing by some shore...it was quiet, the coast was foggy, and there was a lightning storm going off in the near distance. It was probably the most beautiful vista I've seen in an MMO. AA is a nice looking game, no doubt about it.

The graphics aren't that bad.  If you're used to single-player or FPS games, then yes, they will not be cutting edge, but for an MMO it's actually decent.

The character models, npcs, and environment are good too, if compared to Rift or WoW.  The art style is good also.  /shrug

The terrain looks good I think but the character models are pretty bad and the world is lifeless.

There is something wrong with your setup. I am not bashing or anything, but there is really something wrong.

I have that same video card and set to very high with 1920x1080, but I get 40-70 FPS doing regular stuff and 25-35 FPS in pvp war in Halcyona. Plus, you have a better gaming CPU, I have the 8core AMD (which is still good, but Intel handles MMOs and multiple people on the screen better). I also have 16gb of ram and installed to an ssd.

I would start looking at your system to find the cause.

What is awful is the usage of those new antialiasing methods, which are utterly ugly, when I own a graphic card capable of doing full scene supersampling antialiasing without breaking a sweat. When a R9 290x with 4GB of DDR5 512bits memory is reduced to using measy MSAA or crappy FXAA, it's sad.

This wasn't a game breaker  for me, but the jagged edges despite my beast of a graphic card made me cringe each time.

I like crisper lines and contrast in graphics, which is why I usually turn anti-aliasing completely off. I'm not a fan of the blur and if I can change a few settings to get sharper graphics, I'd really like that. Do you have a link to info on AA where I can read up on it?
