I know most of us that quit a certain MMO always have this reason on the game being so boring and everything is just loot based, whatnot, example is WoW, while some players still play and enjoys it, but most of the people just quit because they think it's just the same repetitive play every day, which is to get dailies done, collect rep, etc and buy items/ armors / loots or raid to get the new loots.
I wont lie, i was one of them, i quit WoW because i thought, what am i doing in WoW is just collecting loots every single raid, hoping to upgrade for a better one for personal achievement and show offs, and it did kept me going back for more and more, i thought that it was bad because i didn't know the addictiveness for new loots was the reason i kept playing it
now i am playing Destiny, and holy shit i cant tell you how much addicted i am once more just to get the Legendary, doing strike, crucible, vanguard and recently the Queen's revenge event, like everyday, hoping to grind that rep, token and new Legendaries.
Before, i always wanted to play Sandbox game because i thought i would have gotten away from the loot whore status i once were
but nope, it's game like WoW and Destiny that will keep the player base stuck with the game, because it's like a box full of weed
So What Now?

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Destiny is a pretty crap game.
I dunno why people act like it's some sort of horrible and manipulative mechanism. Real life is literally nothing but collecting stuff until you die.
That includes necessities, not just materialism. Is it enough to have a shelter? No, you need a shelter with a comfy bed. Is it enough to have a comfy bed? No, you want sheets. Is it enough to have sheets? No, you want pillows. And every week you do your grocery market instance grind.
It's addictive in games, because it's literally what we do on a daily basis. Grind at work to get more tokens (currency) to get more stuff or improve the stuff we have. Only reason people level up via education is so that they can hopefully get tokens faster, to buy more and/or better stuff.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Of course it is. Blizz and many other companies have figured this out a long time ago.
Sounds bad for Destiny. When the PC version is out, may be i will just do the story campaign once, and be done with the game.

They removed the story to sell to you one dlc pack at a time.
I can always wait until everything together costs $10 on steam. I am in no hurry to play this game. There are plenty of other entertainment.
