The Truth or being polite?

Presenting inaccurate information or outright lying about a game seems to be condoned here. I keep getting banned for arguing the case, sometimes deserved sometimes not. But the comments that are outright lies remain and that pisses me off more then getting a ban. It seems I could write the most blatant lies about a game and get away with it but call someone ignorant because they don't know something is bad. This is especially frustrating when you can provide links or sources to back up your case and they are ignored.

How do you or how would you deal with posts that are complete lies or misrepresentations (not even talking opinions here, just outright lies). I personally don't care if I offend someone by calling them out on a lie as I find the truth more important.

So do you think it is more important to state the truth, call someone out for what they are and take the ban or just keep quite and let the lies continue?

I believe you can call someone out on a lie, but personal insults are crossing the line.

    ie:

"What you saying is bullshit"  is ok

    "Your a bullshitter"  is not

There are ways to achieve your aim without getting the ban. Tell the truth but do it politely. Instead of saying someone is a liar or ignorant call them misinformed or mistaken.

Provide your proof to support your position and sit back and enjoy the fireworks.

You don't have to be adversarial to oppose an opinion or false statement. You may not care if you upset someone but common decency requires some level of civility.

Discussing video games is almost the equivalent of discussing religion.   Everyone has their own views and they won't be open to discussion until their messiah (game) condemns (fails) them.

You can always tell the truth and be polite at the same time. No need for personal attacks, though it's hard sometimes when people are very clearly telling lies, had my share of going to personal, but over the years I noticed it feeds them even more and trust me telling the truth and keeping polite or atleast without direct personal attacks is something many can't seem to handle and will backfire to them as a ban most often.

You should try - the truth WHILE being polite.

Most people know what is being polite and truthful, or just being an a$$.

Make your case, be polite and leave out the dramatic posturing and name calling, pretty simple actually.

If you cannot tell somebody that they are wrong without making a bannable post, the problem is yours.

I'll have to say, sometimes I could get nasty here.  Because of this I get hate post back !....I don't care when I do.......

    BUT and I stress BUT:

When someone explains something nice back....I feel very small and shameful, nice really works...I have to practice that !

This is a huge problem to me.  Political correctness has gotten to the point where if you call someone ignorant, you're now being rude... Calling it like it is by calling someone a liar, if they indeed lied intentional, should not be wrong.

    I agree

" Ignorant" isn't an insult if the person it's aimed at doesn't actually know what you're telling them. It's what that word means. I guess you can be ignorant of what ignorant means....

Most of the time, it is not worth spending 10 minutes to form a polite rebuttal to something someone just barely thought over before posting. Some posters just are not worth the effort.

    You dont seem new here.

But consumers are like mindless sheeps, most of them. They follow trends. So they get their enjoyment out of trendiness.

They dont like when people wake them up from these illusions. Its like your dad when you woke him up as a kid. He would be mad at you right?

Same thing here. People get mad when you wake them up with truth.

Dont feel bad. I get banned from here all the time. I do what I do, also because I dont like seeing these rich companies scamming people like you, me, or the rest of the mindless sheeps around here.

Hope my words of wisdom help sooth your anger.

You know what really makes me laugh about that. Once you've been here a while and know some of the posters you can tell who's been banned or warned by their stars. It's not really a system to see who "contributes" the most anymore. It's a system to see who got in trouble and how long it's been :)

I think I've been at 4 stars for 2 or 3 years now because I can't remember the last time I went 30 days without getting banned or warned about something I've said :)

Why does a polite response have to be longer than an impolite one?

I find one of the largest issues is it's actually hard to be polite because you can be seen as being rude even when you think you are being polite lol.

As someone has already pointed out, calling someone ignorant isn't an insult. Yet for some reason so many people consider it an insult.

Was somebody seriously banned simply for calling someone ignorant?  I find that VERY difficult to believe.

To put this into context I have received bans for, amongst other comments: -

Saying someone is ignorant of the facts (not that they are ignorant but they are ignorant of the facts).

For calling someone a troll and warning them that if they continue to post comments that I think are just to troll a thread I will report them (they must have got the report if first as they posted a Troll reply but I got banned for my post warning them what I would do).

And most recently and why I post this..

"Another insult to anyone who dares like a game and company you hate. How unexpected!"

This was in response to a post this person made where they were directly rude to another poster in the thread. I got banned they didn't.

I often wonder if moderators actually just hand out bans without reading context due to how busy they are but it really annoys me when I am engaged in a productive discussion, someone derails it with outright lies, I explain the truth and quote my sources, they troll back, I rebut, they report me, I get banned....and the good discussion dies with the last part of the discussion left with outright lies there for everyone to take as gospel.

Anyway, I do sometimes get rude in reply to obvious Trolls and I accept those. I actually had a ban removed when I explained why but I have now sort of accepted that I will get banned when being brutally honest and calling someone out for lying, being a troll, being ignorant of the latest information etc...

Which is why I wanted to know if there were others who also gave up trying to figure out why you will get a warning or a ban anymore and just post exactly what I think.

I agree ... I also have been banned and warned for some really ridiculous reasons. The rules here are extremely strict. Get in trouble for thing you never even thought you could get in trouble for. This is the only forum I don't care if I get banned from now and then because you sort of expect it.
