Wait for atleast 6 months until the hackers and exploiters have moved on or banned, play now will only piss you off.

I'm a patron and I have desided It's not worth the hassle, to much crap going on, so I will  wait for atleast 6 months.

I suggest you do the same.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

I would disagree.  I'm having a good time.  The gold spammers are a pain, but they are pretty easy to block.  I mine, farm and quest just fine.

I self identify as a monkey.

The thing is Torgrim is talking way past the gold spammers. It is one issue but he is talking about exploiters/hackers/cheaters. I answered this in another thread but I'll keep it short here. For that to work out, as you say to wait 6 months or so, XL Games will need to rework that client... most likely extensively. The main issue is that since most (if not all) of the coding is on the client's side; that opens up almost every aspect of the game that can be manipulated one way or another.

I posted like a dozen threads from the official forums showing, what may very well be the tip of the iceberg, as to what these people are literally doing. This has been going on with the Russian client as well as the South Korean client... and ArcheAge has been out in SK for almost 2 years.

This is so not true. Gold Spammers are not easy to block.

Many of them have names that do not exist, many of them have invisible names.

Many of them hijack chat for a length of time so none can communicate.

What amazes me about the gold sellers, is that they ruin the game they are attempting to sell gold in

by hijacking chat and making it difficult for players to communicate.

R2Games basically stated in their publically released business presentation that they don't mind ruining their games to cater to the heavy cashers if it ends up making them more profit overall, with the implication that's how many whaling F2P games are run (note:  I'm using this as an example of the thought process behind some businesses that run F2P MMOs.  I am NOT using this to say Archeage is that type of game... not in this particular reply, at least).

I'm sure that if even MMO companies are willing to ruin their game if it makes them money, the gold sellers are the same.  They have even less stake in the well-being of the game itself than R2Games has in its games, after all.

I have yet to have anything you mentioned bother me on Ollo server, and it's one of the busiest.  I suppose it's a matter of what you focus on...  I'm really enjoying this game. Much more than any other MMORPG since Star Wars Galaxies, really.

I have no idea where the OP is coming from on this one??

I am playing this game as a patron and I am having a blast.  I don't have any issues with bots, the gold seller spam gets old but the patch today makes toons under lvl 15 not able to post in chat channels.

Today's patch was a killer for gold spammer. They will probably find another way but for now a clean chat is great.

I think I will keep enjoying the game as I am.

I completely disagree with the OP. The game is a blast for me and my Family (RL) so far. The Faction chat was pretty bad with spamming at first but even that has progressively gotten better.

Um, I haven't had a single god spam since I started playing AA at release.  IT IS EASY to block them.  You just have to do without useless chat channels.  Only channels you need are raid, guild and party, and deselect everything from the main chat channel but system messages/warzone announcements.  There you go... never a spam again.  So simple, even a monkey could do it.

Communication is just fine without those channels... in fact, it's 1000 times better because you choose who you talk to.

  • PepeqPepeq Member UncommonPosts: 1,977
Given the fact that this is a time based game... just play F2P and start leveling your mounts, professions, build your boat, upgrade your glider, farm your weapons.  Lots to do in game that doesn't even require a plot of land.  6 months from now, hell, even sooner than that, all that land is going to open up because players will realize they can't monopolize the market.  If you don't like PVP, I suggest this game will not be for you for long.  Ultimately, that is what this game is all about.  You may try to avoid it, but once you max everything, all that is left is the PVP.  Embrace it or end up leaving because of it.

I just luv it when posters suggest that I limit myself to certain aspect of a game, rather than suggesting that the devs fix the problem.

Thanks for a really uninspiring response.

    Edit;

Today's  patch should alleviate the problem somewhat, but as stated in other threads, the

spammers will probably move to "Whisper" now.

This is flat out not true about the gold sellers not being able to block them.

Most people don't listen when you tell them to make their font as small as possible and increase the chat box to maximum, that means up and to the right by the way.

The ones you think are invisible will show up if you do those two things.  They just adds blanks lines to the top and rewrite Faction: dlkkfjjls, as the name which you will almost always notice starts with a small letter instead of capital on the name, their true name is above the blank lines.  I have not seen a single gold seller I haven't been able to block doing those things for the last 4 days.

Yes it is a huge pain in the ass to block them but you can.  This will not ever get better as XL Games gives two shits about the spam.  Trion is not allowed to make any coding changes so it is something people live with or should just move on to another game.

I have a question for those who "Wait x time before XL games fixes the client so exploits arent possible"

AA has been out in Korea for what? 2-3 ? And nothing has been done about it since, you think that with an addition of USA/EU they will address this issue ? They will not.

You hit the nail on the head with that one.

The difference between us and the eastern players is they accept using bots in games.  Hell I got friends that live in Korea and they use bots to block some of the crap we live with like spam chat bots.  So they use bots to block bots etc.  It is just a different system and way of gaming.

They will never do anything to change the code.  If Trion where able to get the green light to make changes to the code it would be a different story.  But XL Games shot that down when Trion got the publishing rights so nothing is going to change for a game that is already going on +2 years.

I heard somewhere that they were able to rework the code in Korea and Russia to help with the hackers.

As for the bots, well, every game has them.  WoW has tons of bots and it seems to have done alright.

But as for the OP, neither has affected my gameplay in the slightest.

The only thing that's bothered me is the spammers, but they get a fix today with the lvl 15 requirement for chat.  There still will be some but it won't be SO FREAKING ANNOYING like it is now, and once you block them it's over from that guy until he levels another toon to 15, unlike now where they can just keep remaking toons and get back to spamming you in 3 minutes.

Each tab can have it's own font size.  What I did was made one tab called "Spam" with the smallest font setting, and whenever someone starts spamming, I click it, expand the box and can easily see the name at the top.  Then once blocked I click my regular chat box which is actually the largest font.

    NP :)

I was thinking of making a guide for it on the Archeage forums, but then I figured it might let the spammers find a way around it.

Hackers & exploiters are a fact of life.  Doesn't really need to bother you I've not had any issues....  The biggest issue is the gold spam which is a constant battle to block.

Other than that the lack of land is my biggest issue.

As luck turns out for this one, I was able to stay on the sidelines (due to it not being supported on my current rig).  Maybe if XL decides to add support, I will finally be able to play this game.    Right now all I see is hype and hate (even though many categorize me as a hater because I comment on what I am reading and seeing in the forums), I've always been very open that I do not yet play this game.  If 6 months gives them the time to fix, I'm all in.
