Are you all feeling the same way i do? I cannot enjoy playing any game hardly anymore for hours like i used to? Maybe it is an age thing but i could play all the original blizard games, Age of Empires and strategy games, Never winter nights, Baldurs Gate, Thief's, Heroes of Might and Magics, half-life ect and never get bored. I just seems there isnt anything that good anymore to pay or play for. There have been few games that have been good these past 2 years like HL2 (which is only 15 hours long) and WoW that was fun for 2-3 months.
Although late 2005-2006 looks promising with a lot of new innovative games by new companies or sequals to originals. I'm really looking forward to warhammer online and Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War.

It's called maturity and it IS a good thing. Trust me on that.
I think it's just bad games.
No game since Gothic 2 has had the atmosphere to really pull me in.
Fallout 1 & 2 still rocks.
I'd say it's a combination of maturity and bad games. While it takes more to excite us these days, it doesn't help that most game companies are interested in re-hashing the same stale ideas rather than take a financial risk. I don't know about any of you, but I know I'm looking forward to more WWII shooters!
Im 39 y/o and I keep expecting the novelty of games to wear off anytime. I used to play so many hours on UO I would see the sun coming up and realise..."damn I better have a shower and head to work".
I can state categorically its got nothing to do with maturity... its the current crop of hyper-average games out there. Im re-playing HL2 and playing Freedom Force Vs the 3rd Riech. Im putting lots of hours into them and enjoying it. I just wish there was an MMO to keep my interest right now.
I have played characters into the late 30's in both WoW and EQ2 and at the end of it I was just numb with boredom...
Trust me its not you... its the games....
When GTA3 San Andreas arrives (Ive pre ordered) I will play it to DEATH. Its the games man... Its just the games...

Yea, Im 13, and i play as much as i can, but its limited by parents
It's not age It's a combination of things:
1) Very few quality games out there
2) Lack of community in most of those that are decent.
3) To a lesser extent, age.
I too felt the way you do until I started playing SWG (Post JTL). The game has re-kindled my love of the MMORPG Genre. I still have those days where I just don't feel like playing but on the flip side there are also days when I just can't peel myself away and find myself going "oh crap it's xyz time... gotta run guys"
I will state that no console or single player game out there can suck me in the way that any MMO ever has. The closest that a game has come was Vampire: Redemption and KOTOR I and II. Those 3 titles really drew me in and I had a lot of fun with them (the first time through anyway, never could go back and play a 2nd time).
Other than that the only titles that have drawn me in at all were UO, EQ, DAOC and SWG... no other titles have managed to pull me in and really make me feel like I was part of the game. And I've played more than I could count. SWG and UO are the best of the batch, imo, with SWG being slightly better due to better technology and graphics.
Anyhow, that's my $.02

That's always been my problem. I keep dreaming of some magical wonderland where the majority of players are kind, helpful and don't have the vocabulary of a horse's ass. You would think there would be a virtual fantasy world out there where people were committed to keeping it just that. It's as if we're not miserable enough to each other in real life that we have to create fictional worlds to be hateful and petty to one another as well. Isn't escapism and community the point of mmorpgs?
Anyway, that's my carebear rant on the matter.
I've been playing a lot of PvP MMORPGs the last year or so.
World of Warcraft
Lineage 2
and probably some more that I don't want to remember.
The problem is that PvP based and games that are too easy draw a lot of idiots who don't care if they're nice of not to other players.
I've only met friendly people when i was playing DAoC and others that weren't so PvP centric because i think the more mature and nicer people don't need to kill eachother and shout "PWNED!!!11" to enjoy a mmorpg.
And i agree about SWG, it's not fun hunting womp rats or whatever but the crafting and socializing is some of the best in a mmorpg that I've played so far.
I played for about 4 months before I switched to play with some RL friends instead.
I've been having the same problem lately, and I'm not exactly old. I agree with most of the posters who say it's lack of anything good to play.
There's no happy medium type of game atm. There's really simplified, overly easy games (which seem to draw a much less mature community, so there's no way I can even handle playing, nevermind liking my play time), and there's really hardcore grind-fest games that you need to hope someone has written guides for every quest you do, every item you hope to craft, etc And I'm not saying thats necessarily a bad thing, it actually helps keep me immersed, when it's done properly.
For me, crafting (hardcore crafting, so that not everyone can/will do it) and community are the things I look for, and I'm not seeing much of either lately.
Vanguard is looking pretty good. The ideas for the crafting system seem great ^^
I used to feel that way till just about a week ago,I meen. Im playing EVE but after 2 years its starting to get old,Its a great game tho.I really dont want to say it but,. "Guild Wars".At first I had a bad feeling about GW,and it was getting boring, the game starts off slow, Me and alot of other players expected so many of the same things it dont have from a MMO to make it a good game,.Its by far way differnt And has a vary intersting Hook to it,.Im not done doing the storyline part,But playing from Mission to mission folling the storyline is interesting,Feel like im reading a book and cant put it down. With that said, theres still alot more to keep you intrested after your done the storyline, with items/skills to unlock and quests to finish. *cough* and awsome pvp.Just about the best pvp iv seen in a long time.
The best part is, Im not grinding and not strugling to make cash. theres no rince and repeat. All I can say is its a new "flavor" and it may be a bad taist at first,or reading about it dont sound all that good to some hard core MMO players. its 100% unlike anygame iv played,well,...Maby just maby its a bit like diablo. If you need to try somthing, forget everything. An grab this game,Just play out the storyline,If your older like me "28" and work everyday, this game will last months.Just need to get used to the vary difernt way the game is,its allso hard HARD,reminds me of stage flick games sometimes when trying to do a HARD quest/mission. Guild wars man,.Its a cool game.
::amen op::
And all of this time I blamed it on me being an aquarius, we're never satisfied.
I do not see how it has anything to do with maturity. If you enjoy every and any game you get your hands on, just because it's a game, then you could be considered immature, in a way. But I don't see how you are considered mature just because you don't enjoy the games out now and like the classics.
But I feel the same way, the community as a whole has become a petty bickering place with some exceptions of course. Perhaps it isa victim of its own sucess. I guess why there has been a rise in age restricted gaming clans and groups (not that everyone under 18 is a dweeb, and not everyone over 30 is mature either).
AHHHHHH for the good old days of pen & paper AD&D games with a few good friends ....... need to take geritol and go to bed.....
Witty saying to amuse you goes here.
I know exactly what you are talking about.
1 of the mmo's i really liked was AO and it hooked me big time.Nothing has compared since.A few have come close sure. But like anything i became bored.
Lately ive been playing Thief deadly shadows on xbox and im having a blast with it.I learned in AO that people can be real jerks and more importantly being a guild leader is not what its cracked up to be.
Im waiting on San Andreas and in canceling all mmo accounts i currently have.I hate fantasy games but to be honest there hasnt been a game to really reel me in for the long haul.
Im just sort of waiting on a game with the following elements in it:
1.Scifi setting:(not swg) Planetary "missions" coupled with space travel.Either in a "cruiser"or a private ship.
2.The ability to go to a starport and break into ships and steal things.(even the ship)
3.Ship skills like learning how to atmosphere brake.
4.PvP combat
Just something original with true consequence for your actions.Players shouldnt feel like they have to grind a level out to play a game. This is IMHO what drives a lot of players away most of the time.
Want to ENJOY an mmo?
Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.
Just play the damn game:)
