I suggest you get "high" first, then go play a game... you won't even notice the grind, the community, or anything else for that matter.

Give me one F2P MMO that has 100% only cosmetic items,  0% items that give any kind of advantage over non paying player , and has 0% content barred behind pay-wall.

You will find none, because developers have to eat....

As themeparks go you have either ones that block your progress like SWTOR where you have to pay after lvl 16 or have the game unplayable , or ones that make the game much easier for paying customers.

But I recon that if you play the game casual you dont care for top gear in game, and dont mind that your horse is slower.

If you get serious about the game, you dont mind paying a bit. Its only fair, isnt it ?

Except that just about every gear upgrade requires ridiculous amounts of Astral Diamonds, which means you either grind like a fiend for every little thing once you get past a certain point, or you buy Zen to convert into AD, which is what the whole system is designed around.

From runes and enchants to mounts and companions. Everything takes ridiculous amounts of AD. And by that I literally mean millions, while your daily cap on earning AD from quests is 24k if I'm not mistaken.

Neverwinter has some good qualities, but it's also one of the most P2W games I've ever touched.

Edit: Oh, and that's not even counting the latest pack they released that gives all your characters an extra free artifact as long as you're willing to drop 100$ for it, while artifacts are a pain in the ass to earn through playing normally.

P2W can only be applied to games that have win condition. Open world PVP , territory control. Something like EVE or Archage.

Themepark can not be P2W , it can be P2C : pay for convinience.

Upgrading the equipment makes the game easier - You are no barred from any content ( as far as I know )

What you have in Neverwinter is that in shop you can buy great looking stuff and mounts and companions , while ingame stuff is plain and slighty less powerfull.

You can still play the game. But it will be more challenging , and you will ride horse instead of displacer beast.

Wow... that is so wrong in every conceivable way that... I... just... I'm speechless. Your ignorance has lowered my faith in humanity's future survival several points.

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.

I would rethink how you feel about playing MMO's many suggestions were given and you've tried lots of things but cannot find enjoyment in them.  I didn't read every post so this may have been suggested but join a large guild that plays across multiple MMO's.  That way you can get more into the community and less into what you don't like about an MMO.

Look into your past history to see which MMO's you actually played the most.  Perhaps playing an MMO from start to max level is not what you really want.  I used to say I liked open ended free to explore and do what you like rpgs but my history showed me I seldom stuck with those types of games.  I tended to spend the most time with games on rails that took me on a roller coaster ride from start to finish.

Also if you go into anything in life looking for what's wrong with it, you will never the able to enjoy the good everything has a positive and a negative side.  It depends on your focus, ie what you want to see.  If GW2 has good questing but everything else sucks then focus on what you like.  Good luck and all the best.

Someone suggested archeage HORRIBLE HORRIBLE suggestion. As a fellow working adult the last thing you want is a frustrating P2W Gank fest....Afterall you want  A game to relax and enjoy to unwind from work, archeage is not it.O yeah, dont forgot the insane amount of GRIND in this game.

From what you have asked, I would suggest Everquest 2.

    Firefall.

It's a fresh experience, MMO FPS ish, pretty fun. And it can be played in 15 minute sessions.

Star Wars has a lot of fantasy elements compared to most Sci-fi games, so it might work for you.

I'd take note of SWTOR. number 1 reason why i didnt try it before was cuz of the bad things i hear about some limited slots or was it skill slots or something.

Most of those you can eliminate by getting the unlocks (either by purchasing them directly, or by farming in game money and buying them from another player on the GTN aka Auction House).

Even with the limitations, it's not as bad as some people make it out to be. It just means that you'll be crafting a bit more slowly. There's pretty much always going to be a downside to choosing the free option, unless you play highly competitive games like LoL where the devs can't get away with doing that.

no harm trying i guess. i've already downloaded swtor and patching it right now. just need help on deciding a "class" & "faction". i almost always play as a human exclusively so race isnt an issue

Go for Empire and if you are in US - The Ebon Hawk is packed with players and community is pretty decent.

Every class is OK, but the best in my opinion is Agent and Warrior :) Try them....

I'll second those suggestions, as it's my favorite side and classes too.

If you're on the EU side, The Red Eclipse and The Progenitor both have very healthy communities too. And if you're more of a do-gooder and want to play Republic, Jedi Knight and Trooper would be my suggestions. The first is a very iconic Star Wars story, while the second is more about playing a normal, but highly trained soldier among all those Force users. :P

i quit MS not because its not fun, its very community oriented, but because of the severe power gap, even tho its a PvE game. content is not blocked, but clearing it especially high-end end-game bosses is a totally different ball game. doesnt matter how skilled you are, you wont be able to put as much as a dent to the bosses' thick defenses as well as time limit without having to dump thousands of dollars into gear. anything that i have to pay more than an AAA title is ridiculous imo. not much fun if guildmates and me try this "hard" content just to get the same outcome every single time; getting raped.

Im on Harbinger as a jedi knight. still deciding whether to go guardian or sentinel. most probably will go sentinel. im enjoying the story very much but the insane amount of running about and unengaging combat leaves much to be desired. currently on the 2nd world, very much looking forward to my 2nd companion. the game reminds me of KOTOR 2 though xD

not sure if i'll stay on swtor for a long term, but it'll suffice for now with the entertaining story, unless it gets too grindy

Despite my own parting with Rift over an awfully quirky issue, I'd recommend that you give it a whirl. It's f2p, completely, and has quite lovely graphics when cranked up to max. I think the targeting is the same style as WoW, but the hybrid style of classes and varied spells keep combat interesting, nonetheless.

While it's perhaps considered SF, the ambiance is very fantasy imbued with a smattering of alien world tech and species. So if you've time, give Rift a try. My only advice would be that the first levels aren't the best--it starts getting better the further in you go. Good luck finding a good fit for you!

Maybe give something like Diablo3 or Path of Exile a try?  They're like lite mmo's :P.

i'll keep that in mind. however, the class choices are confusing, any tips on that?

I did some digging around and one of the better explanations was a stickied post on MMO-Champ. http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1236840-RIFT-Guide-Your-Quickstart-Guide-to-Rift

The basics are: there are four archetypes to choose from, Warrior, Cleric, Mage and Rogue. But each of those has many sub-categories to choose from and you get to combine three of them by selecting points in any of the three trees of skills. The best thing about it is every archetype can play any role in the trinity of tank/dps/healer by how they invest their choices. If the post doesn't convey this, it might be out-dated, because not too distantly in the past, more "souls" were added so that each archetype could heal or tank.

One thing out of date in the little intro post I linked is that they haven't edited the "free trial" info yet. That's now a moot point and the game is free to play in its entirety.  Rift now has a cash shop with mostly cosmetic items, things such as spectacular plots of land to build in (called dimensions), clothes and mounts. Best personal housing of any game around, if that's something of interest. And, if not to you, maybe you could get a significant other to play with you just for the housing alone. It's really that much of a game-within-a-game in complexity. You can fish house deco items out of the water with some patience. And by deco items, I mean huge items like boats and trees. They'll scale somewhat in size, so your tree won't look just like someone else's--a small shade tree for your adobe house, rather than a gigantic willow overlooking a pond, for example. Obviously, I got into the housing! ^.^

The cash shop was in place before the game went free to play, but I think it may now be more emphasized. I kind of left at just the point of the f2p conversion, so not really up on what's been happening since then. Since you're looking specifically for a f2p game, that's why I'd highly recommend Rift. I loved it before it went f2p and I don't blame them for adopting whichever pricing model helps them stay afloat. Just as it might not appeal as much to me, for someone else it's ideal and that's cool. :)
