Originally posted by PrinceDamien When I look at Hearthstone I see a Magic: the Gathering copy clad in Warcraft clothes. But, that's just my opinion.
If this were true, then Hearthstone would be A LOT better of a game and not the boring travesty that it is.
I was thinking about adding "Simplified" but decided to leave that out. ^-^
Hearthstone is closer to YuGiOh than it is to Magic the Gathering.
-In Hearthstone, the attacking player gets to choose which creatures to attack, which is the same in YuGiOh. This gives advantage in combat to the attacking player. In Magic the gathering, attacking players declare which of their creatures are attacking, and then the defending player gets to choose which of his own creatures blocks. This gives advantage in combat to the defending player.
-In Hearthstone, there are no instants, as you cannot play abilities on your opponents turn. Up until recently, the same was true for YuGiOh (they recently introduced a new spell type that could be played on an opponent's turn). In magic, instants could be played during any phase on either player's turn.
-In Hearthstone, there are secrets cards you can play face down which activates on your opponents turn when they take an action that triggers it. In YuGiOh, there are trap cards which you play face down which activates on your opponents turn when they take an action that can trigger it. There are no such cards in Magic because instants exist.
Of course, the resource system in Hearthstone isn't like YuGiOh at all, but it isn't really like Magic either aside from the 5 colors aspect. There are other card games with resource systems that are far more similar to Hearthstone's resource system than Magic.
don't play WoW, but I have been playing Hearthstone and like it, suppose there will be a flood of copy cats now, always is. Look at TV, everything is a "reality show" or a "crime drama" lol.
When I said i had "time", i meant virtual time, i got no RL "time" for you.
"Hearthstone's success is hard to ignore in the industry, and it doesn't take much effort to connect the dots between that title's growth and Jagex's decision to develop an in-game card battler for RuneScape. The UK-based studio announced that it's making Chronicle: RuneScape Legends to be played inside of its popular MMO."
Not surprising though. Blizz is successful in every game they have released since the first warcraft. If one wants to clone games, clone theirs!
Did i misread the thread title? copying of blizz continues? Should it not be called copying from blizz continues. Because as much as i am aware Hearthstone is already a copy from Magic the Gathering as any other game from Blizz is a copy from another game? It looks like the typically rose colored glasses from a Blizz fanboy..

You think the author of the article is a fan boy? Well, feel free to debate with him.
However, it is entirely possible to copy from a copy. Look at all the wow clones .. they are copying from a better and much more polished implementation of the EQ idea (with lots of convenient improvements).
So the title is still accurate. I didn't say "copying of blizz's original ideas" ... did i?
1st Warcraft == Warhammer Fantasy rip-off (for lack of WH license)
StarCraft == Warhammer 40K rip-off
WoW == dumbed down EQ rip-off based on Warhammer copycat IP*
Hearthstone == dumbed down Magic the Gathering rip-off based on Warhammer copycat IP*
Still Blizzard succeed in selling their s***.
So why criticising Jagex for learing from them?
Sorry for this trollish post, but I just don't get why people tend to think of Blizzard as a source of creativity when most of their games are a patchwork of stolen thoughts.
* meanwhile degenerated into comicstyle parody of a fantasy universe which causes eye bleed
Just an FYI, Warcraft was supposed to be a Warhammer game, but Games Workshop pulled the IP from them after Blizzard had almost finished the game. So Blizzard decided to change a few things and Warcraft was born. If you hate Blizzard's success, you can blame Games Workshop

I am sure Games Workshop is blaming itself for missing out on the huge success.

They just aren't very interesting or bring much in the way of innovation, but neither of those is necessary to appeal to their target audiance.

Oh man, LoL is popular? Let's make some MOBAs!

Nothing new, kinda boring. RS is a dying/dead game, not a big surprise they'd do this.

oh copying is nothing new ... but isn't it fun to see what is the latest being copied?

AGREED!
Magic the Gathering TCG is still the king. WoW copied the hard copy version and then did it digitally, but I still like Magic's version much better.
