That's sucks for all that lost their job. I hope they knew it was coming and had another job lined up. I'd never want to work for a studio that was associated with NCSoft. A post launch MMO must have terrible job security and under NCSoft it is guaranteed.
NCsoft invested heavily into long and troubled development of Tabula Rasa. And than closed it emidiately after it didnt have enough subscriptions. Even though they had to play 20 million dollars penalty for doing this. They didnt even try to sell the game.
Canceling TR had nothing to do with performance. They intentionally sabotaged the development and killed the game because they were having a disagreement with Garriott.
NCSoft needs to drop the ball on investing and funding Western developer. Chances to create a second ArenaNet are next to non existent. Save the funds for a Lineage 3 or an Aion 2 or an Blade and Soul 2 if you want to produce new games,

Still, NCSoft is smart to can "Carbine devs" a.k.a. "people with 0 skills of any sort that prob get paid to be retarded*. I still hope they decide to hire actual game developers for Wildstar, some of the basis for the game is decent. Do like FF XIV: destroy the initial dev team, cancel the game, then re-release as Wildstar 2.0!
Party pooper here. NCSoft has learned its lesson and will never again release a Korean-made MMO in the west. Just look at their betting on Wildstar instead of B&S. Also, look at GW2 backed by NCSoft.

Learn their lesson how exactly? Sure Aion and L2 are nowhere near as successful in the West as they are in Korea but we're all aware by now that NCsoft isn't running a charity. If L2 and Aion weren't making money in the West they would have had their Western servers closed down by now.
If anything the real lesson NCsoft has learned is about the perils of making overly cartoony WoW clones.

Should I take this as time to give up on B&S getting a western release and try a translation patch for the Asian release?
Poor NCSoft. I do hope they find their way. But MMOs seem to be hitting a downturn at the moment. Pull back. Cool off. Make some single player versions of their licences, maybe, and get some easy money. Then come back to them in a few years with a new vision, a bunch of new programmers and developers, a new mindset and hopefully some new ideas for the genre.
Sadly that's what many people have done who were eager to play B&S. I tried getting it up and running but at the time (a few months ago?) there were some issues with getting it to work on Windows 8.1, yay lucky me -_-
