No Brainers...

Grimlock22Grimlock22 Member UncommonPosts: 21

What MMORPG sequels or IPs do you consider should be 'no brainers' for a company to make, but for some reason have not yet?  This can also include those games that may actually have sequels, but in your opinion the sequel didn't come close to beign what it should, or could, have been.

Here are a few for me:

Ultima Online 2 - This has got to me the biggest no-brainer to me.  Ultima Online is considered one of the pioneering MMOs, and the fact that it's still going shows how great a game it was/is.  I'm still totally confused as to why it's never received a proper sequel.

WoW 2 - Yes I know WoW is still going strong, but with the cancellation of Titan, it would seem to me that WoW 2 just makes sense.

Marvel Universe - Yes I know we have Marvel Online, but it's more like an Action RPG then a true MMO.  With the sky-high popularity of Marvel I'm stunned they have not made a proper MMO in the Marvel Universe.

Dungeons and Dragons set in Forgotten Realms - Yes I realize there have been several D&D MMO's and pseudo MMO's, but I can't believe there is not a true, open-world, D&D MMO set in the Forgotten Realms.

I'm curious what others think?

Actually it's quite the opposite. The cancellation of Titan was pretty much Blizzard's realization that they don't want to invest any more into another MMO. Add in the fact that they've been saying that they're planning another 10 years of WoW, it's likely that there will never be a WoW 2.

Never played UO but i imagine making UO2 would go the same route as making EQ2. Overall, won't go anywhere and just leave a lot of old time fans salty.

WoW 2, poster aboved mentioned why WoW 2 is anything BUT a good idea. That would be Blizzard shooting themselves in the foot by making a WoW 2 with WoW still up and running.

Marvel Heroes 2015 is pretty much a full on mmorpg at this point. Yes its a arpg like Diablo, but its more than that. It has raids now and is constantly being updated. Also, just because things like "it makes sense to make an mmorpg cause there's millions of fans" sound good on paper. Thinks are rarely that simple when it comes to actually making the product. Just look at SWTOR or all the disgruntled ESO players.

Idk what this Forgotten Realms is you're talking about, but Neverwinter NIghts is a full on open world D&D mmo.

A dungeon crawling CORPG would be much closer to tabletop D&D than any open world MMORPG would.

None. Lets forget about the old IPs and sequels and innovate. Lets forget about the old progression methods and innovate. What we don't need is more of the same with a different skin, we have plenty of those already.

Did they actually say that they weren't interested in working on any new MMOs? My understanding was the game they were making wasn't "fun", so they killed it. HOWEVER, you don't scrap a game that's close enough to being done to actually play it. Actually, there are a couple new project names popping up already. I think that their focus is not cannibalizing their WoW audience. It's about maintaining a balanced portfolio. There's definitely room for more MMOs in there, but probably not fantasy.

The version "2" should never be a reskin, a reskin is what players are expecting but they dont know yet.

Most of players connected to old games just want the "<game name> - Reborn".

I agree with "lets get new stuff" and forget the old ones.

Help me with this oh great one. Give me a few details so I might research. Not quite sure you stated it clearly enough. I didn't realize you have studied Fortune 500 corporations, entertainment entities, on and on. A little math here would help us all don't you think "O man of much knowledge"?

    thank you in advance...

This is as close as you will ever get to UO2 https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/.

WoW 2 will happen but I don't really expect it to follow the Warcraft theme, I personally hope for some type of space MMO on the Star Wars theme of some kind. Would be awesome if they could get the rights to make a Star Wars theme MMO but I don't think it could ever happen. But they are good enough to make it sort of like it.

Marvel Universe didn't excite me when it hit and the theme still doesn't but am old and set in my ways.

D&D I could get into but it really needs to be done on an epic scale you are after all talking about the GRAND DADDY of them all.

I would love to see a really epic MMO made of Lord Of The Rings. I believe LOTRO was made with the right ideas but never implemented as it should of been. Once F2P hit it was over and started falling fast. But I still hold out hope for a quality company to get the license for it.

I would totally overpay for Star Wars or DC Universe MMO done right. as in:

#1 Fully open, player driven world.

#2 Tons of things to keep me busy PLAYING and not find myself WAITING on content.

Both of the current Star Wars and DC Universe have one big issue and that's the fact they were made for CASUAL audience. I'm not casual, I got 12-16 hours to burn in the day on gaming and I want to use those hours fully, playing a single character for a meaningful purpose toward the world/game.

SOE is a really good company when it comes to concepts. They've proven that with SWG Pre-CU and DC Universe. DC Universe had a lot of issues, but its combat, its music/theme, fully voiced game and good deals/promos on pricing their product just showed how SOE can do something great and they got my $110-130 thx to it.

Their major mistake was the fact they missed to make their game competitive. It was another thread mill where you do the same raids over and over for months until the new raids. That only worked with WOW because their raids are far more complicated with far more bosses, but even WOW fails severely to keep up with them due to greed imo (and cost them lot's of subs)

Very small market of people who have that much time and will devote it all to one game.  To make a game like that cost effective they would at least have to charge a very high sub price which I know from your previous posts you won't pay.

You want a Ferrari for a cheap used car price. Not gonna happen.  Closest you can get is something like EVE where you can sink that amount of time into the player generated conflicts if you choose to.
