Can we really use the term "Polish" when they utilize the very low end graphics and at least in the normal start-up there is absolutely nothing that needed to be even tested to polish.
However in stating that they did have very broken quests which i am sure have been fixed by now but claiming the "most polished" i guess is fair at this point but not in reality based on when the content was released.
I will admit there were a few really good quests but so happens those very best were the exact ones that were broken when i played,so kind of ruins the experience when your best is botched badly and knowing that they have a test server to iron out the prominent bugs before release.
The most polished is actually FFXI,i played it on release and never after 10 years did i ever experience a bug,no way could Blizzard ever make that claim. Also at the time FFXI had no test server either, but then again why test content ,in case of Blizzard if you are just going to release your best content bugged anyhow?
There is literally no excitement to the start of playing Wow,it actually encourages one ,a vet mind you to forget the game and move on to a more exciting start because simply walking up to a yellow ! is quite boring. However what Blizzard did do was make the game very simple to an introductory gamer, simple to grasp, simple to play the combat, you can literally play with your eyes closed and just hit hotbar 1 2 or 3 for quite some time.
I just find it extremely odd that a player that played mostly Blizzard games never played Wow ,i find it extremely unbelievable. The timing of this article on Wow a very old game, coinciding with mass Blizzard advertising right now feels a bit more as to the why.
Nice that you never had a problem with the crap fest of FFXI, but I can say that FFXI was buggy and about as boring as watching a dog crap outside.
"I hate Azeroth, this reality, this zoo. "It's the smell, if there is such a thing. The smell of PISS"
God forbid anyone should help anyone. The WOW cold shoulder. The L33T. Those enormous personalities that tower over the NOOB's just because they can. They are protected after all by the anonymity of cables and radio waves.
I wonder how L33T they would feel, without that shield.
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...!!! They would run like piglets all the way home.

Wow (no pun intended), you like FFXI? Seriously? If so, then to each their own I guess. Personally, for me, that game holds the record for the MMO that was installed, played and uninstalled in the shortest amount of time.
The first time I had to jump through 4-5 menus to do one simple action, I was like 'uhm, I don't think so' and uninstalled.

Seriously, that game is for masochists.
Huh, I played for quite a while but don't remember any problems with menus. I only had problems with the FATEs, other than that I thought it was a nice game. /shrug
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
As someone who has played WoW on and off since launch, I found this article intriguing. It's always fun to see the impression that someone gets when they play a game for the first time that so many people now take for granted. Thanks for writing this article! I look forward to seeing how your experience changes as you level.
Regardless to what anyone might say, what matters is that the game still gives a pleasurable time of gameplay.
I also have played it on and off in the last few years. A few months here, a few months there, and the fact is that WOW is indeed a great game, that has stability and that you can just revisit and have a few more hours of fun if you wish to do so, because you know that it is indeed a product of many years of work. Has its problems, of course, but I also played alot of GW2 and currently playing alot of TSW, and all of these games have several issues, and in the end, i find myself not being "blindly faithfull" to one game for years and years... Life changes, and so do tastes, and it feels nice to do a certain "rotation" of games once in a while to feel that "fresh air" once again, even if in a known game that welcomes you back and delivers yet some more fun
But hei, as someone said, to each its own, what matters is that people have fun and feel that their time is well spent! So please, do update your experience on that
No matter what, it's always interesting to hear people experience a game that I've put years into for the first time.
On the other hand, I've gone back to wow for this free week, just for lack of a better game to play at the moment. I played and raided heavily from BC to Cata, and though I bought the Pandaria expansion I couldn't get into it at the time. This week, I finally leveled my main up to 90 and holy CRAP, was I ever surprised how dumbed down it has all become. I know this already, I suppose (or I did at one time) but even coming from Archeage - which is very low on the difficulty scale for PvE - it was a shocker at how mindless the PvE combat was. It's so, SO easy. Generally, I pushed max 2-3 buttons in each fight and always the same buttons. Pretty disappointing.
I think that's a real shame, because WoW was a great game and it has such a vast and varied world.

While true for MoP dungeons and quests, not so true for challenge modes and mythic raids. WoW still has the hardest raids on the market (yes, even harder than Wildstar).
The WoD heroic dungeons are somewhere in the scale of being harder than BC's, but not as hard as Cata's...some sort of happy medium where the mechanics arn't that complicated, but you have to do them or else its a wipe.

Yes, I agree, Doodphace. The raids are still where WoW shines, I know. It's a shame that the open world PvE has become so braindead easy in comparison, but in their wisdom they've apparently designed the two different activities (PvE questing/grinding and then raiding) for widely disparate groups. I guess I'm the sad minority which really enjoys both.
sadly people still think WoW is relevant in this day and age. Its a has been its declining population shows this. Look at the statistics, if it were a businesses profit margins they'd be declaring bankruptcy.
I played WOW until recently and found I hated this new expansions prelaunch. The changes made to the characters abilities made it feel like they were no longer the characters I leveled over the last ten years. Forget it, I went and started in FFXIVARR. Its more fun, better players and far better looking and the patches are as large as WoW expansions, but free... go figure.
Since when a game needs to be relevant at all? people play it because it is fun. Can't get any simpler than that.
Also regarding WOW being relevant or not.. people can make their own judgement. It was and still is a phenomena.

Unless MoP was your first time playing the game, I highly doubt you would see the changes in WoD alone as a reason to leave... they've been redoing the talent trees for years and every new expansion you get the same complaints... then people adjust to them and it's like nothing has changed. You would have to be BLIND not to have noticed the pruning over 10 years... to notice them now is almost laughable... downright unbelievable.
I have never really played it. Tried it when it offered f2p for low level. But saw nothing worth subbing for. As, most of what it has to offer is copied to other full f2p games and as mentioned in the story, if has some features missing.

Declining all the way to untouchable #1 - with 7m + subs, with the closest rivals in the 500k range , plus the only mentionable sub based game which hasn't had to resort to a f2p model - I think you need to reconsider what constitutes relevant.
I guarantee it is the most relevant game as far as developers/companies are concerned and it's numbers prove its relevance to consumers.
I'm sorry, but what is sad are the undeniable facts.

WOW sux for sure, but it sux the best...!!!
It's home, "Are you to good for your home...???"
It's total polish and solid as rock.
And it just looks so God damned candy on Ultra.
I just hate the pissing contest.
