A little about my experience thus dar:
I am a casual player, play about 2-4 hours a day. Level 50, Own a 16x16 farm, Aqua farm, and a Manor.
I still enjoy AA however, I am starting to feel the pain...
Labor is terrible mechanic:
Patron's paying a monthly fee should not have a labor throttle. This throttle control should only be for FTP customers.
Housing is way to limited, open up all of the useless land and let people own property.
End game:
1. Farm cart/wagon runs to make $$$$... extremely boring way to make money, Summary: Craft craft, make packs, then wtch your cart for hours (Multiple pack runs)
1a. Merchant ship: Takes a long arse time to get but sounds really fun to just make a massive run of packs... 1 goal of mine, something that is keeping me going....
2. Fishing = decent money IF you have 35k+ skill and a springy steel rod, below that its not efficient, gets boring after a while. PVP danger is refreshing and creates some excitement. without your own fishing boat, its not very productive but at least its something... Need your own fishing boat to make this a money maker... You need 2 TS trees to get this boat, and I have not gotten any TS trees and i have bout 8000 logs...
3. Freedich island runs: Guilda Star runs, usually solo or with a friend, stealth in, avoid bad guys, rinse and repeat (If you need guilda stars). Its ok... and its the only way to get more Gulda stars than doing the BORING dailies.... so if you want a merchant boat (500 stars) you will need to do these runs... Personal goal of mine so its fun at the moment.
How to get gear upgraded: (Terrible gear upgrade system)
1. Farm Hasla mobs: sit in one are for uncountable number of hours, killing the same thing over and over, collect 150 of one type of token, get that weapon, rinse and repeat, then you need 500 to get the next tier weapon, rinse repeat. After hundreds of hours sitting in the same area killing the same crap over and over and over again, you can get an upgrade!
What a CRAPPY way to get end game weapons, I zone out SO BAD when I farm this crap I almost fall asleep. This has NO business being in this game, it is horrible.
2. Craft the gear, Hope that a Random Number Generator gives you the jackpot and if not spend a ton of money on trying again and again.
I am not looking forward to trying to upgrade an item to only make it go backwards and have to spend more money to try again with the Random number Generator. MONEY SINK. No thanks... so sad...
Housing: If you do not have a house/farm/manor now, You likely wont get one.
PVP:
Get kick ass gear = you kick ass (See above on how to get it)
Stun lock, dead. Stun lock dead.
Recently all I hear about is how people buy the chests, get tons of Thunderstruck trees, and can make anything they want. I have not purchased these chests because i do not wish to sink more money into this game and I still have not gotten a farm cart. I feel like if I do not purchase the chest to get the 10% increase chance, I am at a severe disadvantage to people willing to spend $$.
PTW -----DEFINATELY yes
I am still enjoying the game, I have personal goals which I am trying to reach, which keeps logging in and playing. Social events are fun as well.
When I run out of peronal goals I may not want to play anymore... we will see.
I feel ultimately this is PTW game with Facebook timers and throttles to keep us from progressing to fast because there is not enough content.
Ultimately there is definately not enough to do, it lacks building and customization.
TOO MUCH Grinding and cash shot crap

Thank you for the details OP. I'm glad I didn't spend to much time with this title. It's good to hear the opinions from someone who isn't trying to trash the game, but give his opinion.
I'm sure your opinion will be challenged soon so get ready!
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Castle Sieges don't start until 6 weeks after iniitial claim (i can't help but feel that's an awfully long time Oo Really gotta wonder why it was set for so long)
In addition, only 70 players on each side (140 total) may participate for 4 castles. A castle will only be sieged once for the siege period (6 weeks the first time, as stated, and 3 weeks after that).
So basically, not many people will be able to participate in castle sieges. Only the guilds that own them, and the one guild (1 for each castle, four in total) that wins the bid to attack them, and even then only 70 per side.
The right to siege the castle goes up for bid on the auction house. It's possible for the castle owners to bid for and win the right, which means the castle won't be sieged for that period. Again, I really have to wonder why they did that.
....anyways, my point that I kinda lost for a moment is that no one can tell you what castle sieges are like because they haven't happened yet. And when they do finally happen, the vast majority of players won't be able to partake in them. ...probably ( wouldn't be too surprised if 70 x 8 was the majority of AA's remaining playerbase by the time 6 weeks rolls around, but whatever.)
According to some posters on the official forums, for those that really want to experience castle sieges, it's best to just search for them on youtube, because "watching them is just as exciting as playing them", apparently, from what they say.
Guild experience is good, it is very nice to have people to play with and work with in crafting and pack runs. Honestly if it weren't for grouping and social interaction I would never last in this game.
Your welcome.
It is a decent game, and honestly in AA, it is ONLY as fun as you make it yourself with your goals and working with people. If you are expecting they to lead you by the nose you WILL BE BORED.
Yo need be creative and come up with things to do, and most Important, be social, work with your guildmates, even on pack runs or fishing,
If you play alone... and do not be creative... you are playing an extremely fancy Facebook game.
The game lost me after reaching level 50 and looking for all this "Sandbox" stuff to do in "The Ultimate Sandbox MMO". You can't customize your house... just get a generic model that (if your lucky to find land) you get to place in a "Virtual Projects" with hundreds of others jammed so tight in the spaces. The economy is not much of a sandbox element... very limited in how the players control it and apparently Trion/XL Games can just throw whatever in the cash shop and screw the economy over any time they please. The "Justice System" for the most part was being used more as a popularity contest than actual Role Playing. Sailing the sea and being a Pirate seemed to be one of the only Sandbox elements worth doing. The farming became more of a nightmare and crafting (most cases) was a chore in monotonous, repetitive and mindless cycles.
I put the game on a far back burner due to the fact it is not a Sandbox MMO and most of the other content was bland, lacking, or poorly implemented.
What you just said leads me to believe that this game will be hard pressed to make it other than the normal niche title, and probably not a real big one at that. I feel we have all been tempered to the themepark, and it will be hard to break the mold of the solo mindset.
As I have said before, it seems impossible to have a true sandbox with items you can purchase on the outside of the game through a cash shop, to me it destroys the idea of what a sandbox is. Even if it's a piece of leather used for an item, it shouldn't be bought through a cash shop. /shrug
