once people got their garrisons going then those will start producing mats...so get on the market now.
  • ArthasmArthasm Member UncommonPosts: 785

To OP: Don't forget to cover up Treasure Hunting. It is really fun and you can level or get pretty much exp by doing treasure hunting. It envolves exploration, somewhere mini jumping puzzles, you can get variety of items. Gear, toys, companions, archeology fragments, gold, crafting (rare) mats and apex crystals.

We'll see how I, and others feel about it in 6 months -1 year after the shinyness has worn off.

I agree... I think we can mentally say the game history is now:

    Classic > TBC > WotLK > WoD

We can just forget that Cata and MoP ever happened.  Those that left during that time period or because of it, will likely find that WoD was the expansion they should have released after WotLK.

I find comments like this strange.  Must be a raider thing.  For me, BC was utter garbage that helped ruin the vanilla game, while Cataclysm helped renew it by adding a lot of life to the new character leveling.

I'm hesitant to get this expansion. I played through some of pandaland last month and didn't find anything appealing. The gfx were really bad, the solo open world pve was faceroll boring. Combat was press three abilities and the mob died. Boring loot. This xpac sounds much better, though. Are there any that love this xpac that didnt like the previous couple expansions?

I have been playing since 1.8. I think this expansion has finally killed my remaining interest.

Garrisons should have been reserved for guilds and the restrictions on guild creation removed. Then people who wanted to go it alone could do so by making a private guild, and the rest of us could leave garrison-building to our guildies who care about things like that.

Are we allowed to swear here? I want to comment on my attempts to log into for 2 days straight and dying in 10 hour queues, and need to use the work 'fuck' a number of times

I hate to be a realist here in front of the WOW FANBOYING that is happening in this thread but the launch of this expansion is the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER, I have ever endured in ANY MMORPG I have played thus far.

After paying the initial 50 for the expansion and the 15 monthly, it is truly INEXCUSABLE that I am STILL NOT ABLE TO LOG IN  after 24 hours have passed.

I am going to wait ONE MORE DAY and if this issue is not fixed by then, I will ask Blizzard for a FULL REFUND and will definitely leave this game.

I only subscribed back to this game a month or so ago and to be honest I DID have fun until they started the HUGE NERFING TO PRIEST CLASS with patch 6.0.2.

    And now THIS.

I will spend my money elsewhere.  And I do not think I will miss this game very much.  it was only "filler" anyway.

Will WoD be the final expack for WoW ?  i don't think so but will it be the one to return people back to 8mil+ subs ? i don't think so either , we will see how it comes in 2-3 month from now, people having fun in the first 1month of the expansion that is normal, expected and predictable but after that is the real issue
  • daltaniousdaltanious Member UncommonPosts: 2,381

I agree with OP about garnisons further desocializing game, but otherwise "just another " GREAT expansion. :-) As we are used to with Wow. So far loved all of them. Still, maybe my preferred remain WOTLK. Taking nothing from rest.

And do not like further dumbing down of game in many ways.

Still this expansion brought my only real complain about Blizzard, that horrendous “new” models. Mainly because they totally change the LOOK of avatars, not improve it. I really deeply hate this and I’m staying with faces I have been looking at for nearly decade. Wonder about stats how many decided not to have enabled that abomination. Check compare link below:

I hate you guys. All these positive comments and I also took the plunge to buy the expansion. Downloading now ...

If you like questing and can get into the storyline of WC then it's looking like it'll be a fun xpac.

They nerfed everyone to an extent I believe.  Came with the ability pruning.

Game is only fun IF you can play it.  All I have seen is two hour plus wait times on queues.  Server has been low population all week until the release.  Ridiculous when you pay for a game and cannot play it.

So far I rate this expansion a 1 just for that reason.  Blizzard better be giving us some extra time on our subs because of this!

The expansion has been released 2 days! You have lost about maybe 50 cents to maybe a dollar worth of game time in compensation. o.O I hardly see them giving time back. Who knows though, if enough people complain we may get a couple free days. /shrug

I have about 16 hours game time in and a level 93 character. A few of my guild mates have characters up to 96.  I agree that there are huge queue times, but it is a weekend and WoW is the largest game of it's kind. Queues aren't always a bad thing, it just means a lot of people want to play.  I would rate this an 8 myself just from experience with other titles I have played. Rift would have been a 9 and Wildstar a 3 imho.

edit: fyi, just logged into Wyrmrest Accord no queue. 8:33 am Mountain Time

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

    Blizzard always does.

Oh, BTW, maintenance ended early today (Saturday), the realms have been up for a while now.  Get in before the queues!

I'll tell you one thing....the heroic dungeons are a pain in the ass to pug with right now (dungeon finder), and that's exactly what i was wanting...My first heroic last night was a plesant suprise ;)

Though not on the level of Grim Batol, the heroic dungeons are very close to Cata. Anyone worried by this, remember that blizzard added non heroic lvl 100 versions of each that are similar to MoP heroics for those that want a casual experiance.

And once again, this is why WoW is still number one...

I am not a huge fan of questing, im one of those that breezes through as i find it a chore. This expansion is the first time I have sat down and enjoyed leveling - Blizzard, issues aside, have done an amazing job with this expansion, I am really impressed.

I left out MoP as I felt it was not a great expac, this one however, perfect.

Really liking this xpac but not at all liking queues of over 5000 with 8 hour wait times..... taking work off to watch a queue is soul crushing.

lol this post should be renamed the official wow hype train cuz all you lot are doing is stroking each others egos, hopeing that some players will read this and go join wow since its been declining for years.

Personally, no dice, im moveing to everquest next. wow is dead.

They're just noting their personal experiences with the game on a thread that is titled "...In Progress".   You know.  Playing something before you speak out against or for it (in this case with regards to the expansion).  So far everyone who says they have played it in this thread (or the vast, vast majority) has been really enjoying it.  Some remarks are perhaps a bit over the top for only being able to play 12 hours in some cases.  Though it's apparent to anyone that these are first impressions, in a thread that is clearly meant for such and is just starting the review.

The only "ego stroking" in my opinion is someone coming in here just to say others are doing such and that WoW is dead, without even touching the expansion.  That's just coming in here for the sake of saying such and without experience in the topic at hand; it's the ultimate "hey, look at me" type of post.

That said, I've been playing WoD since late June or so with the beta.  Personally I think they released the game sooner than they should have.  Though there is no doubt in my mind that the expansion was well done beyond that; still having fun after five months of playing.  We'll just have to wait and see where they take the game from here.  The initial impression is a positive one for most who have played it.

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

    • There is a very natural flow to the story this time, despite all the lore in WoW their story telling has been a bit hit and miss, but now it feels very involved with cutscenes to help the story telling process to draw you in.
    • Rare mobs are one time only kinda deal which give not just gear but fun additions, this also is stopping the "rare camping" that I would see in previous xpacs.
    • Bonus objectives, they are keeping the quests more concurrent with the story, giving you a very nice pace of questing with the 'addition quests' being optional things you undertake by reaching an area and completing, this has created a nice community over it and I have seen a lot of people having fun.
    • Garrison, after being a hero of the alliance for so long the Garrison is not only a fun feature, but a good way to immerse you in the world. Think Commander Shepherd from Mass Effect and this is what this makes me feel. If only there were some romance options!
    • Crafting has been vastly improved, more resources have become available making the economy somewhat cheaper but with timed, daily materials the crafted gear will shoot up in price and is viable.
    • RANDOM LOOT - By this I mean when I complete a quest, that green reward has a chance to become a rare or an epic. I had a 522 green reward that became a 550 epic, when it happens it's a great feeling.
I could mention plenty more, but I suggest you get in and give it ago, queues a bit whacked presently, but the game is a solid addition to the franchise... finally a worthy xpac.

Pretty good description of why you enjoy the expansion initially.  Thumbs up for going into detail.

Question:  Is the talent tree still crud?  I didn't like what they did to the talents the last exp.  I'd like to know that before I even consider coming back.

    And,

Can hunters use melee weapons again?  Can warriors use bows, crossbows, and guns again?

Lots of little touches to the entire open world experience that make the game feel brand new.

It's still a theme park, but it certainly cements WoW's place as the best of its kind.  We'll see how long the luster lasts.

Dang it !! All these great comments are going to make me break my "No buy expansion for $49.99 creed". I miss those TBC days and even Lich, but I just haven't felt that an expansion is worth that much money and with all the issues. You all are changing my mind!
