"I spent the majority of my time busying myself with Warlords of Draenor's new "garrisons." Calling them a form of player housing is a bit of a disservice, as they're much more similar to the town of Hytbold in Lord of the Rings Online's underappreciated Riders of Rohan expansion. In LOTRO, it was what passed as the endgame at the time, and over the course of weeks and months, players gradually rebuilt their personal version of the city for access to crafting perks, better gear, and more.
It's possible Hytbold is the direct inspiration for garrisons, but in typical fashion, Blizzard takes the concept and makes it vastly more enjoyable and useful."
Got the expansion... waited a bit to finally get online. I kinda feel burned. Spent money on Blizzard for a expansion that literally mimics Neverwinter's(Perfect World) companions system. So be it, the WOW copy is improved a bit. But you see Neverwinter is "FREE".
For the WOW throng it may be new. But for a mmo vet like me. It is nothing more than another set of ideas taken from another mmo to feed the masses and make big $$.
And everyone thinks mmo's are WOW clones. Im just going to stick with calling WOD. Neverwinter 2!
I haven't seen any lock boxes drop from mobs where I had to pay real money to open them yet....are they coming?

I think the OP is also missing the natural inspiration for Garrisons from another Blizzard game called Warcraft. You know... where you build up a base...

NW companion system was clearly taken from SWTOR. I don't see you complaining about that. Even then Blizzards companion system got nothing in common with NW other than that they are 'companions'.
This is nothing new, we have had threads like this before and with every expansion there is some new theft. Blizzard is smart by taking everything good from everybody else since they don't have any ideas of there own.
Frankly did both EQ and DDO have companion systems long before Neverwinter and Wow still have far more in common with EQ than NW which might not be so strange considering that most of Wows original devs played EQ (Kaplan was hired because he played in the same raid guild as Morhaime).
Blizzard have always taken mechanics they like from other MMOs, nothing new there but the same could be said about almost every other MMO as well.

If you don't take good ideas from other games, that means you are a lousy MMORPG company.
The difference with Blizzard, is they tend to take general ideas and fashion their own system out of it.
For instance, its obvious exactly which game was the inspiration for SWTORs talent tree system. Its obvious which game was the inspiration for Rift's dimensions. they are both near direct copies from WoW and EQ2 respectively. Meanwhile WoW's garrisons have some of SWTOR, some of LOTRO Hytbold, and of course Warcraft itself. There isnt one game you can pin it on.
GEEZ this OP loves to make inaccurate hate post about WoW. Hey if you don't like a video game great but continuing to post straight up false information is silly.
Personally i have zero problems with games copying each others.... Bit by bit, that's how you evolve (most evolution isn't done by huge jumps, but by building step by step, one on top of the other).
Plus, as long as i have fun, or people in general have fun, what does it matter? I mean, why even make a post complaining about it? I don't get all the hate with a game that "omg, i'm so sad, feeling ripped off", yet has one of the biggest player pool to this day (and a sub one... with paid expansions... and a cash shop now O.o).... I mean... Facts speak higher than "personal opinions":
The hard fact is that they are still managing to give alot of people, alot of fun in their gameplay so --> good for them, that's the whole idea ....

Just compairing Wow to Neverwinter is really lame. Maybe he works for PWE.
In EQ you can even equip your mercs with AA (Alternate Advancements) to fight better it has its own experience gain and give it special mercenary equip you find in game to give it stats. This is EQ we have all the computer nerds. There is also 4 archetypes of mercs like rogue, wizard, tank and healer and you can hire different types of races and special contracted mercs that each have their own look, bonuses and special abilities and their is also coded behaviours and fight styles thats diverse like Rogue balanced, passive, burn or Healer reactive, balanced etc. The history of pc gaming and the fact that everquest had the first "bots" and programmable player companions as a seperate legal (now illegal) mod. This is the history of PC gaming that eventually "devolved" into freebie cartoony WoW where everything is sensationalized and has a soul understandable by an 8 year old...But w/e thats the type of person you are so w/e

The OP doesn't have the expansion. Don't let him fool you.
