Next Expansion of Ultima Online: Mondain's Legacy

RumbanussRumbanuss Member Posts: 4

The shattering of the Gem of Immortality was the genesis of Ultima Online. The shards created were perfect images of Sosaria. But with the essence of immortality seeping from the fragmented shards, the fabric of the universe began to unravel.

While mysterious guardian spirits are credited with the salvation of Sosaria, in actuality, the primal cooperative magic of the elves mended the world anew. Such an immense enterprise, weakened the fey folk significantly and they withdrew from the world and its affairs to restore themselves.

As self-proclaimed but severely drained protectors of the land, the elves watched in sorrow as plague swept through Yew and decimated the region, converting it to a foul swampland. Isolated and safe, the elves waited until the time was right to come forth again into the world...

... that time is nearly upon us.

Introducing Ultima Online: Mondain's Legacy, the 7th exciting chapter in Ultima Online's rich and storied history. Ultima Online: Mondain's Legacy includes groundbreaking new features, including:

* New Playable Race: Elves
* Twisted New Enemies
* New Dungeons
* New Spellweaving Skill
* New Quest System
* Collections
* Increased storage capacity

New Playable Race: Elves
Mysterious and powerful, a playable race of Elves will deliver a whole new way to explore and rediscover Sosaria. Along with a New Elf city, the following Elvin themed features have been added to assist the Elves in their return to Britannia:

* New combat abilities
* New architecture and housing tiles
* New trainable mount
* 100s of new craftables
* New wearables
* New Elven City
* And more!

You can start a new Elf character, or you can transform a human character into an Elf after a series of difficult trials and quests.

Twisted New Enemies
While the Elves bring the light of life unto the world, new enemies bring death, disease, destruction and corruption. These fouls beast include:

* Chief Paroxysmus -- a hideous disease-spewing walking pollution.
* The Dread Unicorn - A noxious, twisted version of a once pure creature.
* Lady Melisande - So foul, the mere sight of her causes humans to wretch.
* Shimmering Effusion - A deadly light that appears when greed, evil and corruption are in the area.
* 10 other new monsters, Champion Spawns and Paragons.

New Dungeons

* Nine new dungeons to explore
* Rare treasures to claim
* New Champion Spawns
* New Paragons
* New Peerless Monsters, quite literally, the toughest monsters ever put into UO.

New Spellweaving Skill
Groups of 2 to 5 skilled casters produce powerful magic that would be impossible for one mortal to command. The more participants in the spell circle, the more powerful the spells, which include:

* Gift of Renewal
* Immolating Weapon
* Attune Weapon
* Thunderstorm
* Nature’s Fury
* And many others.

New Quest System
New quest engine will provide 100s of quests and 100s of hours of gameplay. Rewards offered will be everything from minor artifacts and gold for simple quests to the ability to join the Elven race after a long arduous series of quests.

Collections
New cooperative collections including a Museum, Library and a Zoo. Completion of a cooperative collection results in rewards for everyone who contributed.

Increased storage capacity
Housing storage capacity will be increased by 20%

Keep an ear out for more specific details to be released in the coming weeks.

    Yay! Cool stuff. But I have a question:

    Um... Orcs anyone? What the hell? We've been roleplaying orcs on every server for years! I am really confused as to why they didnt pick orcs as a playable race.

    i play on australian servers because racism is acceptable there

    I listened to the meeting live on UO Radio and I'm sure they said from their research that elves were by far the most popular race for addition.
    Maybe orcs next time? A lot of people were looking forward to the rumoured pirates and sea combat but this didn't materialise.
    Couple of cool decor things though:
    Parrots!!!!! Indeed you can have a parrot in your house which can learn stuff from you.
    Aquariums!!!! A proper fish tank which you can place caught fish in and breed.

    I dont like the idea of an new elves race in Ultima Online this much... ::::12::

    Too bad its not about Gargoyles and/or Pirates and Seabattles or something more Ultima Series like ::::21::

    But well...the other upcoming expansion features sounds very sweet to me

    btw.You can download an MP3 from June 2nd, 2005 Ultima Online Townhall Meeting. Live from Washington D.C. Property at UORadio, but you need to register to download it.

    I think it's a step in the right direction. The whole samurai expansion put off a lot of players with it's dubious fitting in to Ultima lore.
    I think firstly they are trying to stop the flow of existing players out of the game. Mondain's Legacy will be download only, but they did say there will be 3 new Ultima products appearing on shop shelves in the next year or so to try and raise the profile of UO and get in some new players.
    The only group that doesn't seem to get anything out of the new expansion would appear to be the PvP'ers.
    Crafters have new runics (fletching and carpentry), tamers have new tameables and their are plenty new creatures and areas to explore for the PvM, PvE players.
    I'm glad there's new new land mass as huge parts of Sosaria are empty enough as it is without giving more areas to spread people about in.
    One of the highlights of the meet was the clearly very drunk bloke ranting how the 700 point skill cap was too low and in 6 years he hadn't managed to create a decent character. Oh dear

    It's definitely a better step in the right direction rather than samurai empire. I believe they should have added maybe 4-5 races right away rather than just 1, but that is just my opinion. I like the idea of the new woods they're coming out with for fletching, casters joining together for new powerful spells....I don't like that there will be a quest that will turn you into another RACE, that is just beyond silly. And will the races even have different stats besides just looking different?? Alot of questions to be answered.....

    I think the reason behind the quest to turn into the elves is so that people who already rp as elves, don't have to create new characters. Imagine if you had a legendary tamer that you rp'ed as an elf? To create a new character to make an elf and to train up to legendary taming would take months.

    Hope the UO community will grow even bigger after this expansion .

    I'm also looking forward to explore the new areas/dungeons.

    So if you are wondering about to start playing UO , give it a try! Great game =)

    OMFG!!!,

         It is a great BROKEN game!!!

         For the love stupdity man, no new client means no stopping third party programs. NO fixes for the economy, simply broken. Yeah listen to the UO Radio talk, someone asked about larger bank checks because its too hard to store over 125 million in gold. Hello wake up call?

         This game is soo afraid of item decay, and losing items to any form of combat that nothing matters except that insurance bug that has existed for over a year! Which they have not fixed! A freaking bug for when you die your items that were insured and supose to stay upon your body when you rezz, do not they simply fall upon your corpse where anyone player or NPC can loot said items, which in this day of Items make the character and you could spend over 100 million gold on creating the right suit, talk about people freaking out. Listen even Personally blessed items are dropping on your corpse because of this insurance bug. That personal bless deed was an item handed out after the AoS expansion that you basically are not supose to ever lose when you die.

          Frankly while the idea of Parrots and fishtanks to decorate your house sound fun, they simply are not reason enough to base your expansion around. Ultima Online is not about races, if we wanted to play a different race we'd play a game with many choices of races. No disrespect to any Orc Guild, but none really exist anymore in UO anyways. Orc Guilds were funny in the old days.

          Listen creating six new types of wood for archers to use is fine, but we all know that one type of wood will be perceived as the best and that will be the only one in demand. Does it really matter if you create six types of wood and well you use type A to kill Blood Elemetnals because that deals the best damage for that, or use Type B to kill Acid elemental because it deals that type of damage, do you see my point, it won't matter six types of wood right, Physical, Fire, Cold, Energy, Poison, can't think of other type of damage that can be dealt. Each wood will simply specialize in that type of damage, so tehre is nothing to be excited about, it won't matter each will simply have their use for that particular monster that you are farming now is all.  Besides back to my first complaint there won't be any trading value in these new woods because of the AFK third party farming people who will flood the market with their Felluca double resource gathering AFK BOTS, just like Valorite, Verite, Agapite ores are already farmed.

    UO back in the day was an awsome PvP game. The game went to hell in a rocket after Trammel came out. The UO team must keep coming out with new eye candy to keep all the carebears happy. UO today is nothing but house decorating tamers that like to fester at brit tramm bank and play fashion show. I really miss the first 2 years of UO stalking the dungeons with my friends pking. I also miss having my Chaos guild and having large street brawls with the other Oder guilds. It just goes to show that a larger number of online gamers today are carebears and dislike PvP.

    This is a huuuuge problem , I think EA should spend more time to stop the third party programs FIRST. The game economy is getting worse for each day.

    Macro miners everywhere . Think about the honest players which is struggling to mine 10k Agapite and the thirdparty user is mining all night AFK.

    The game is still a great time killer and fun to play IMO

    I have come to the conlusion that I will die before they stop making UO expansions. We will be in virtual reality and they will still be making 2d expansions for the game and someone will be running it on a homebrew server somewhere.

    Good lord, talk about lengivity! UO was an awesome game to while I played it but I never expected them to still be trying to milk this cow this much later.

    I tried UO in the old days , and I really miss the GM full plate mail which was the best armor to wear at that time.

    Siege perilous is the hardcore server , no insurance and Felluca rules everywhere . But it is sad that you only can have 1 character per account on that server. But siege is not UO oldschool =(
