DaSpackDaSpack Member UncommonPosts: 589

There have been meetings between FUNCOM and HBO. Also Funcom have reported that they are working on their next MMO. A friend of mine have also found Ragnar Lodbrok style of pics in atmosphere similar to Age of Conan.

what you think? Anybody know something?

Fingers crossed for seamless world and awesome combat!!!

If it has Age of Conan style of combat and athmosphere, with The Secret World style of storytelling and character build, I'd be one that would look forward to it.. :)

What can men do against such reckless hate?

Hey, I'm not going to complain about an AoC with an upgraded graphics engine. If they could pull that off, I'd be all over it.

Vikings is a History channel show, didn't know HBO had anything to do with it, do they?

Correct, it is indeed a History channel show.

HBO have no involvement with the show, not sure where the OP got his information from, but unless he can cite a reliable source common sense would lead one to believe it is a false statement.

The show isn't exactly a mega-hit either, not sure why Funcom would even bother giving it a sidelong glance. When your company is struggling, you don't start developing a new MMORPG based on a widely unknown property.

This whole story makes zero sense, seems like an obvious load of shit to me.

It's distributed both HBO and History. Most of the stuff out there is marked HBO though.

Also I think Season 3 is Released first @ HBO.

If smart or not, I have no idea. But being absolute AoC fan this intruiges me.

An Open World Age of Conan-type game would be fantastic.

You missed something there  :- Minus the terrible bugs, crashes and server failures.

I do not see this ending well... At all...

A game set in that era could be fun if you get a good mix of sandbox features... Partnering with a TV production company and building it on a Tv show....

No i can not see any way this will end well. At best the game will be done by the time the show is irrelevant. Unless FunCom is allready building said game and just re-skin it... But i would not give all to high odds of that

This have been a good conversation

I'm not dealing with anything FC anymore since every AO player was lied to for years about a rebalance and new graphics engine.

    This, very much so.

Not the great intro story of AoC only to have it never happen anywhere else in game.

I felt like I was playing a completely different game after the intro was over.

I liked Vikings a lot. It obviously does not have the production value Game of Thrones has, but they pulled quite a bit off.

But an MMO..and Funcom doesn't exactly scream quality..but who does nowadays..

A single player or coop game, maybe even a multiplayer game would probably be better.

I mean, the Vikings setting *does* have a lot of possibilities, especially with real raids, not some random dragon, but your friendly neighbourhood church/monastery..and with the different kingdoms in England and the various Vikings..well, jarldoms? has lots of possible shifting alliances..but i don't see anyone really pulling it off in the next 10 or 20 years.

Seamless would definitely be best, but at the very least have zoning MAKE SENSE! IN AOC in order to get to the zone south of you, travel north. WTF were they thinking.

Name an MMO that doesn't suffer from these issues. On another note blizzard just launched there new xpac and had probs with servers.Wether or not it was an attack ,well i'll leave you to determine has to wether or not they were honest about that.

    They should just stop now.

i dont like novel / series based games / mmos (some exceptions for sure), devs should create their own virtual world with their own story.

It would be but Funcom doesnt deal in open-world/non-instancing. I would imagine it would be much like AoC or TSW in design because thats what they do. I think that would be like expecting Blizzard's next mmo to be a sandbox.

I have watched this show and it does lend itself well to a game from a content perspective.   The question is what kind of game are we going to get.
