Hello,
Does anyone know of a good Fantasy mmorpg with a great atmosphere?
So many of the games i've played just seem so hollow and dull, i need something to excite me and scare me, i need Great music that really sets the sene, and also Great visuals to bring it all together.

Music is excellent, Graphics are excellent. Walking around town is an interesting experience..npcs talking, music changing, npcs threatening you or asking for your help. Not to mention one of the best communities as far as maturity overall.
Downside is the game is a bit grindy, I am less then happy with Sony's Balancing ability for classes, of course that is mostly because they kept breaking my class...repeatedly.
EQ2, DAoC, Anarchy Online, SWG, MxO theres a lot of them. AC2 also
i think the biggest problem with immersion, or atmosphere as it were is the abundance of fansites.
everyone i met in WoW from like, the 2nd week it was out got a quest, alt tabbed to thottbot for the exact location and coords, healed me on the way with a ui mod that makes this simple game even simpler, switched weapons with a macro they got off of the forums, know where to get that dagger that gives you .0003 dps better than any other so whey they do get a good drop they think ' bleh there is a better one i want' ..so on and so forth.
thats a big issue if you ask me and a big reason why some people dont enjoy games as much. very few people do not take the easy road, few people will go just wandering around to explore places (heaven forbid it wills low down questing/exp per hour). there is one game coming out thats trying to remedy this, but we will see.
EverQuest II hands down.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit
World of Warcraft has one of the best atmospheres in MMO games, excellent soundtracks and art design.
Everquest2 also earns points. The zoning may disrupt things from time to time, but the cities, especially if you go to Freeport, are very well done, thanks in no small part to the voice acting. Nothing quite like being shouted at by a merchant, pulls you right into the game. Also, Christopher Lee does some excellent voice acting as Lord Lucan D'lere.
For more modern settings, I would have recommended earth and Beyond, but that game is closed. Instead, I recommend the Matrix Online. Although the cityscape is repetitive, it is, no doubt, the neatest game environment out nowadays.
If you are willing to try a single player game, go to http://www.direct2drive.com/product.aspx?gid=2&pid=63. I would recommend using this service, as the download manager allows you to stop/start/pause/resume the download with no hassle, and you can re-download at any time.
Edit: You can also download Everquest 2 there as well, although that download is Huge, even for a DSL/cable connection.
Saga of Ryzom definitely. SoR excels in creating atmosphere. Unique and consistent world, living ecosystem, great graphics, stunning weather effects, surround sounds. It does not have continous music on background, only couple of themes on special occasions. New themes are coming though, you can download samples from website.
