I've had the Hornet Trainer for a while now and have to say even though it's a great ship in its own right I prefer the 325A. It may have less guns and armor but it's a nimble fighter by comparison. I'll take speed and maneuverability over tanking ability every time. I was a little worried it wouldn't stand up but after flying both ships I can say I'm very happy I picked the 325A over the Hornet. The only reason I've had the Hornet Trainer for a while now is because I have a Freelancer I can't fly yet.
