Is Space Instanced?

in Star Wars Galaxies

Was in space in my Yacht and flew through a battle.  Is space instanced, everyone I see is an NPC, or is it a zone?  Were those people fighting other players?

    space is not instanced but most of the pilots tend to sit in deep space or in kessel system so the space arround the basic planets might be a bit empty .

    i tried blowing sum one of the sam fraction up but didnt do anything to them :(.there are other ppl u just have to look

    Sorry, it seems everyone got the wrong impression.  The space above Tattoine is not empty, there are plenty of other ships flying and fighting.  I did not know if they were players or computer controlled is all.  I know I see NPCs fight in the cities sometimes and thought this might also be the case.

    Keep in mind that the yacht is invulnerable and does not "draw aggro". So its really only for sightseeing and does not give you the feeling of being hunted that you get in certain space area.

    Most players (that includes PvP) are in Kessel (best loot) or Deep Space (best PvP, 75 % reduced repair cost). Exceptions ... money farming (often done in low level areas to get a maximum number of loot in the shortest amount of time) and quest missions (that can lead you to ANY space region).

    Kessel system? Not really familiar with space in SWG, where is that?

    Kessel is a prison planet and the source of drugs. Its surrounded by dangerous black holes. In game thats a space only zone you can reach from space zones like Dathomir or Endor.

    You go there to pass your master pilot test. (Destroying a heavily armed corvette plus escort)

    Also the most high end NPC enemy ships are there and therefore also the best loot.
