EQ is a very old game, whereas LoTRO is relatively new, and, despite there being a certain amount of nostalgia for EQ, LoTRO is a better game generally, i mean, you can even play a musical instrument in the game, and farming, and its also a widely recognised IP, far more widely recognised than EQ was, after all, just about everyone has read Tolkiens books or more likely these days, seen those amazing films that were made based on them.

I agree, I played EQ for many many years, a lot of them full time and raiding at end game levels. I still love EQ and am amazed it has just had another expansion released. EQ is all about the raiding and leveling though, which is constant grind, and unless the character models have been updated, you always ended up looking pretty much the same. I quit a few years ago and now play Lotro. Yes Lotro is far easier, but the characters, the landscape, the sheer number of quests.. and of course, the lore, but what lets it down is the lack of raids and the seeming reluctance of Turbine to develop any more. Lotro still has one of the most amazing fights I've played (Draigoch) for sheer depth and atmosphere of the encounter. However, it is just that, an encounter, not a raid. I know a lot of Lotro players would love to see more raid content in Lotro, something that has imho kept EQ alive and the faithful playing. Turbine, take note..

LoTHRO is beating the stuffing out of EQ right now. Are you sure we all know EQ is going to win??
Woot! Go EVE Online! I just started playing it again. It has GREATLY improved over the old, old days back when it first came out. Much better tutorials now. But in the end, it's still a game about freedom to do what you want, and right after the tutorials, you're on your own.
There is no point for any1 to vote this is clearly a popularity contest even an idiot can see that in the end WoW is going to win the veteran category & GW2 the newbie category they can end this now it's all about numbers in the end what game have the most ppl & more popular doesn't equal to higher quality/better game not even in the slightest.
Unfortunately the reason we rarely hear about the bad sides of TSW is because there simply isnt enough players that is interested in that game anymore. (...)
I have to respectfully disagree. TSW has had over 2.5 years for players to report bad sides and there just isn't too much terrible feedback. Player feedback has consistently been more positive than negative. There are of course negative aspects regarding gameplay and such as there are with all games. But what is good about TSW far outshines what is bad about it.
I think the reason you rarely hear about the bad sides of TSW is that they are few and far between.

Going to be hard to say which is better/worse. Everyone seems to be using their personal feelings on a game to determine if its value. Just because you don't like a game or are just burned out on the game itself doesn't make it bad.
A little objectivity people, come on. Or the results will be worthless.

Of course it's subjective... it always is.

Interesting results, have to say i pretty much agree with them, although, while i wasn't surprised that Archeage lost, i was surprised about which game it lost to, i can only imagine that when it comes to PVP, MMORPG's are less popular than MMOFPS's of which Planetside 2 is the only one. Still, Destiny losing so completely probably explains why they are so quick in the development of Destiny 2, hopefully they learn from their earlier mistakes
SW;TOR losing to GW2 surprised me, a bit, but both are decent enough games in their own right, so i guess it was always going to be a bit of a 'battle' the rest of the results were pretty much to be expected

Being popular doesn't equate to lower quality/worse game either. So your point is?
What's more, why do you think YOUR criteria for judging what constitutes a great MMO have more relevance than the criteria anyone else uses?

Dont know why you have such a problem with DDO, did they nerf your best build? The system has evolved over the years and it has kept adding new content. Its a good system, not Dungeons and Dragons any particular versionand it isnt perfect, there is no perfect game out there, and I doubt that there ever will be. Everybody should try it, esp past the beginners island, and meet up with folk who enjoy the game. you'll be pleasantly suprised.
This was supposed to be a reply with quotes....my bad

I think the problems people had weren't with the game as much as comparing it to Guild Wars in their head to head. I played both and I understand the argument as GW was a much more complete game and enriching gaming experience imo.
Your kidding right? If not thanks for laugh. We learned a valuable lesson with that game. The same people create multiple accounts and vote over and over again. Not to mention KI directly linking to the site. Maybe the lowest point ever on this site.

The drawbacks of random brackets. I still think Lineage 2 is the far superior game compared to EvE. Oh well, guess that's my unpopular opinion.
This website community voted Pirate101 for best MMORPG of 2012 over GW2.
Pirate101 being a game that to this day has not enough votes to have a rank.
Currently playing: GW2
Going cardboard starter kit: Ticket to ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, Dominion, 7 Wonders

For the final I'm predicting...
ESO vs GW2 in the Newbie section
WoW vs EVE in the Veteran Section.
If the newbie does face off against the veteran, I predict:
GW2 vs WoW.
Were you expecting a scientific study?

And the crying about the match-ups begins. Go make your own list and stop crying. LOL!
I agree, that is rather perplexing.
Why GOTY Pirate101 isn't here?!?!?
Pirate101 can easily crush GW2 to smithereens
