Well, lucky for WoW that most people tend to enjoy that type of progression, seeing as how their playerbase dwarfs other games.
I'm torn. Wow has a great world to play in with many things (I like) to do. I wish they put "more" into the world so it was worth exploring. I just wish the game provided more customization options. Right now it feels like an arcade RPG. Enough control for it to be fun but not deep.
The questing never made sense to me because I end up out leveling the content before I can finish a story. If I queue for a dungeon everyone rushes off before I can finish reading. So I end up understanding how things start but never how they resolve. Its frustrating but bearable.
Transmog. Battle pets. Finding and running old dungeons solo is all that is left for me. I played a bit of WoD but liked MoP better. Currently re-leveling a new hunter as I like the progression the levelling process provides.

Doest take a brain surgeon to work out what type of games people like the most.
Hint: it's the game that crushes every other game in the same genre since 10+ years. And that game crushes the others EVEN during it's "lows". Actually any existing MMORPG including those made by the giant "SoE" dream of having a player base like WoW has when it's at the lowest point between two expansions.
mm hit the wow defensive nerve i guess, not sure what you are getting worked up about, I think all WOW fans know that the core gamestyle is unchanged. I would hate a games market where every title was 'crushed', that would be pretty shit for game players but fortunately Wildstar has sent a loud message that the WOW style themepark is dead outside WOW, so developers will be given more freedom to specialise and offer value for money.

Actually.... take away the Chinese and regions that most MMOs don't have access to and you'll see that the population differences are much less dramatic. Over half of the "subscribers" are in China/Asia.

ESO has single player questing but I wouldn't call it the most single player game... That would be ignoring all of Cyrodil which has a whole different dynamic to what you see in the respective questing areas. On top of that with the lack of truly global trade, and other like features, it does put more people out in the world.. It's not really a sit and queue type of affair. 90% of the time in ESO there are other people around you. Public quests and the like add to that as well.
Liking ESO doesn't negate his point that SIngle player content, doesn't really do much for the longevity of an MMORPG... it doesn't..

I was talking about PVE side of things not PVP. If we go by that logic that no MMO is single player really because every MMO has some kind of PVP side to it.
Anyways i was being sarcastic because he was bashing WOW for introducing single player side of game and then praise ESO at the same time which has the most solo centric PVE leveling. And then he wonder why everyone calls him out on his double standards.
I don't know how lack of global trade makes ESO less of s single player game? that is very odd reasoning. Moreover, ESO as single player as any modern MMO. Other than few world bosses which can not be soloed and dolmens all quests / stroylines are single player.
Dungeons which works like your typical LFG... queue, wait and teleport into dungeon i am wondering if you even played ESO? i have grouped more in games like SWTOR at lower levels than i did in ESO all the way to level cap. There is just no incetive to group in ESO.
Not only that but ESO actually discourages grouping due to phasing and you won't be able to run your quests with a friend even if you want to. Everyone remembers the nightmare of people who wanted to quest as a duo at release.
90% ,of time you will see players around you in WOW too even at the lower level zones (infact more than ESO and WOW is 10 years old game) and WOD is always packed with players.
And what public quests in ESO? you mean dolmens? they hardly qualify for public quests.
I have no problem people saying WOW is getting more solo oriented but then to give ESO as an example of more group oriented MMO is just freakin hilarious and ironic.

I don't feel this is the right direction for WoW though. They could have offered us something new besides garrisons, it is not a fantastic feature IMO, and really takes away from the social aspect.
While I understand this argument, and have made it myself when talking about it to friends, at the end of the day, is it really Blizzard's job to enforce the social aspect of the game? Nothing stops us from exploring a friend's garrison, after all, or everyone coming together in one for some RP at the inn.
That being said, I do feel garrisons may have been better served if they had followed FFXIV's example and made them a guild function at first, then later allowed personal garrisons.

Not talking about WoD in particular... just trends in the industry is all. People seemingly prefer games that can be soloed with ease. I am glad you are enjoying the game. I have yet to find a community that I fit in with and enjoy playing the game with in WoD and ESO, which are both very solo-oriented games, so that is my one guess as to why that may be.

Ashran was a complete disaster and should be scrapped. I was planning on playing pure PvP in this expac but they added nothing new for PvPers at all, I paid $50 to get to level 100 and do the same stuff I was doing in MoP.

New gear doesn't make the game more fun. I had gear before, and so I expect I will grind for gear in the future. Gear doesn't qualify as content for me to justify $50 expansion and $15 sub fee. That's the most any MMO charges, and to be honest, they don't have a lot of show for it.
Ashran could be good, and they could add more in future patches, but right now... PvP is still Arena/Bgs, and PvE is still Raids. This game is for the progression raider, if you are anything else than there are other options. especially for the price.
