New Game from Cryptic/Perfect World Entertainment

ompgamingompgaming Member UncommonPosts: 188

Hey, I was poking around the Cryptic page today and found this link talking about the development of a new IP.

http://crypticstudios.com/in_development

Just curious if anyone has any rumor info on what this might be!  I enjoyed STO a lot, until the most recent season and would like to know what else they may have in the pipeline.

Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Dunno but PWE is a bust for me.  They pissed me off with CO, then wit STO, then with Neverwinter.  They're really a shady company and I find it extremely hard to support them.

While I can see some of your concerns with prior actions by PWE, I do still enjoy the community and several features of STO.

Also, I've heard rumors that it might be a FPS MMO.  As a player of PS2, I am interested in what this could mean!

    Anyone know anything.

Any additional game, especially during development, will eat up a massive amount of resources from Cryptic/PWE:

Speaking only from experience with Neverwinter, this is either a non-issue, since they do not really allocate resources to it anyways, so there is nothing to take away from..or a very big issue, as it will take away even the two man team assigned to it.

Though given that they generally introduce more bugs than they fix with each patch, and even break stuff totally unrelated to whatever was officially touched, that might not even be bad.

Easy to judge a game with  Perfect World Entertainment behind it.   Pass.

Neverwinter and STO were both disappointing use of great IPs. I'm sure their next game will also suck.

Gotta agree just the name Perfect world in the thread was enough to turn me off. Still it oddly enough was also enough to lure me in and read the OP. LOL

No sense going on about what a terrible company Perfect world is so will just leave it at that :)

I have a sneaking suspicion that Cryptic's new game is being developed for the console market. If you think of their move to put Neverwinter on the Xbox One as a way to test the waters of Microsoft's ecosystem, this makes perfect sense. Perfect World isn't exactly a small player, so there's a good chance their negotiations with Microsoft included more than one title.

What that title could be is anyone's guess. FPS MOBA?

Sadly this has been my experience with them as well.  I am in the same boat.

Shadowrun Online became "Shadowrun Chronicles - Boston Lockdown"

I rather have that one done by someone else that are more into experimenting, levels just don't cut it in a Shadowrun game. Besides don't microsoft still own the IP? If they do then I really want Undead labs to make it instead, Jeff Strain (Diablo, WC3, GW 1 & 2) would be a good lead designer for a game like that, he ain't afraid to try new things.

Cryptic do have it's strenghts, they are good on character customization as we seen in CoH and PWE do have rather decent programmers and fine artists but both teams are pretty bad with quests and story so something with a lot of customization focused on combat would probably be the best.

    Maybe something like Battletech?

Game studios almost always have something floating around 'in-development' to wave in front of potential IP owners, and overlord publishers. That doesn't mean it will ever see light of day...

Like SOE's post-apocalyptic MMO... H1Z1? Nope. way back when SWG was still pre-XX... How about a modern military version of Planetside? have you heard of that? nope? Yea well, it was a thing.

'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

I asked around but my brother's, friend's, second cousin twice removed, aunt's nephew, said he hasn't heard anything about it.

They do make pretty games.  They have that much going for them.  Now if they could somehow get around to creating compelling content ... we'd have something great to get excited over.

Cryptic has a history of putting out pretty good games, with cool ideas and innovative features. It's the execution part they mess up with though. And after the aquisition from PWE things are even worse. Grave example: Champions Online. That game had the fonds to become a major player in the industry, especially after CoH's demise, yet in it's current state it feels abandoned with only a skeleton crew working on it. So i don't know how to feel about this new 'in development' title. But as someone else already mentioned it could just be a placeholder right now and probably will never see the light of day.

I don't like the Cryptic game engine nor any of their games.Yes i did find some enjoyment in NW for about 3 weeks but then it became repetitive and boring.

Your free to like STO but i was so turned off by that game i quit and deleted in first couple hours.

I expect very shallow game design from Cryptic, games that look and play like free to play games. They talk about going in the direction of action,i call it arcade type game play, something that never has longevity, games that you might pop in from time to time but never feel compelled to spend any money on them.I would not get hyped at all over any new game by Cryptic/PWE,prefer to sit back and see the result then judge it.

If they had of put some depth into NW it could have been a decent game but linear questing is just sooooooooooo old now that i can't get into any game going that route.
