Best game in the SOE stable

d_20d_20 Member RarePosts: 1,878

I've got some Sony credits left from when I was playing Vanguard and some more when I bought the PS2 starter pack. I was thinking about all the games SOE has and wondering what you guys think. Is there a way to separate the wheat from the chafe? Is there any chafe?

Personally, I had some fun in PS2, but somehow didn't stick with it. Vanguard was a game I enjoyed going back to from time to time, but it was still buggy even at the end. DCUO was pretty fun at first, but somehow I didn't stick with that either. I know EQ2 is probably SOE's major game, but with EQN coming out, I didn't really give it a real shot.

I'm patching up Landmark right now.

What do you think is the best SOE game?

I will give the new EQ Next a try but landmark is minecraft on steroids from what I can see. Not my thing.

At the moment the best SOE game is PS2.. sure it dont hold you like a mmorpg but I will play the hell out of it every few months and I guess thats one of the good things about it you can just pop in any time and start playing. If you do enjoy it then maybe pick up a few extra weapons or vehicle equipment..

Or wait for H1Z1 or landmark to release I would not spend any in game cash on games that are still in development.

Agreed, Planetside 2 is the only decent game SoE has had any part in for the last 10 years and that's coming from someone that hates first person shooters.

I have the same problem geesh i must have a ton of station cash in my account but there is nothing i want to play from SOE anymore. That's is why i sort of lol@ there notion it was a deal to buy their full access program since it was nothing but a win win for SOE.

I think there  is a long line up of players waiting to see what Next offers,i am on that list as well. However what i expect  to see is nothing different than every other game, exact same game play but if it 's garners a popularity contest,it will remain stable. Then of course as soon as a small group start the exodus a wave if started, people just tend to follow the popular game around and around,it is like "gotta have the new cell phone" or"the new fashion in clothes",then ditch first chance of the new popular item.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

    Interesting point.

I will go a bit off topic here.

That's why huge mass mmorpgs like WoW will be a thing of the past. Those will just morph into mobas and mmos with farmville and social networking added to them.

That may signal something great for proper mmorpgs in future, maybe smaller niche games that know they are going to be niche with a dedicated player base and without pretentions to be the next WoW killer. Maybe a game like Project Gorgon will work and thrive slowly over time after locusts come and go and the core community remains and grows over time via word of mouth instead of hype and advertising to cash in on the pre-order and launch cash grab the big expensive studio projects go for.

Eq2, love the game, great AA system, frackloads of content....  Just to bad it keeps crashing as my beatslord is probably the most fun classmechanic in any tabtargetting MMO, i really would like to get the client stable again...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I preferred warhammer online to guildwars 2 in almost everything except viablitity of the builds per class.

My most played one (within the SOE acc I mean) is DCUO, but you said didn't stick on the long run. I miss Vanguard too :)

So, for the question  What do you think is the best SOE game?

I'm patching up Landmark right now.  <-- this. Landmark is fun, if you like building and exploring other players' creations.

For me it would be EQ2 hands down over their other games.

You don't have to play their games, just because you have some cash with SOE. If I somehow had a million cash with, let's say Runescape I wouldn't play it just because of that. Also all soe games have poor performance, so don't expect to run a soe game in 40fps maxz details.

If you had to choose a soe game, gun to your head, you should pick up ps2. Not many newcomers to eq2 and you will be playing it alone. Also h1z1 is coming out in a month might be good who knows?
