How about they come back when they have more to talk about. Nothing really to go on here. I like a hard game, and I don't mind death penalties, but losing everything is a bit too severe. Not really sure how hard core of an audience they are shooting for. Hopefully not too hard core, because I would love a more old school MMORPG.
Well, the talk is good, and some of the games they worekd on are definitvely different from most MMOs out there right now. But talk was never the problem as everyone always claims they are doing it different. And those banners there are hardly imaginative. While they are hardly something that makes or breaks a game, heck ,they are basically below notice, they are the only thing game related we have as far as visuals go right now. So that doesn't exactly bode well.
Well, we'll see soon enough. Most likely it will be no where as different as they claim. And it might not even be good if they indeed do everything different - it's hard to get it right on first try, so the game might be different, but bad.
Might turn out to be "savior" of the genre so many of us are looking for since 10 years or so, but i'll remain skeptic until they actually deliver.
I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore

Unless it permadeath , you don't "lost everything"
Normally full loot game have limit bag space and have big bank so you can keep more item and limit number item you can bring with .
In those game you don't wear you best gears casually show off , you equip normal gears and only use the best items at right time.
Chose what item to put in your limited space bag is a skill .

So if you never played Shadowbane, you lost everything you weren't wearing. This means you only lost what you were farming at the time (gold, runes, farmed gear, etc). I think this is the best type of the "losing all your things" scenario as far as population retention goes.
Thank you for taking a risk, a game like this is way overdue. The fact that it's obviously being modeled to some extent after Shadowbane is genius, and in many ways already makes it a success. I always felt that, that game had core elements which were light years ahead of the MMO genre.
I have a huge smile on my face, the article I just read is basically 100% identical to the ongoing conversation I've been having with my buddy for the last 5 years, in regards to where the MMO industry went astray.
Bring back the death penalty, and reward that coincides with it. Give me a good 12-20 fully customizeable classes, and I'm talking SB character customization not the sad excuse that modern day MMO's offer.
Give me a game that isn't balanced around 1v1 arena combat.
Let me make a real tank or a true glass cannon should I choose to do so. Give me options on what kind of tank I'm going to use, hp based, resist based, defense, evasion.
Bring back auto attack. My ability use should be strategic based on circumstance, and not just a part of my dps rotation, let auto attack take care of that.
Bring back the random number generator, both for combat and for loot. No more guaranteed gear if you do solo quest x, or run dungeon y.
Bring back the glory days where one could Play2Crush!

Please by dear god let it be a spiritual successor to Shadowbane.
