Current F2P MMO look worse than EQ did 15 years ago. Proof inside.

    LOL.

Those EQ graphics don't look better at all.  EQ was not a graphical or artistic wonder.

Both EQ screenshots have aqua in them, maybe that's what you think is so beautiful.

    A few current F2P games.

    I don't think the 3rd 1 looks good.

Now I do not think EQ's graphics are spectacular but they were more than sufficient for me.  If I had to sacrifice the graphics to look like EQ to have a game now that is half as good as EQ was.. I would gladly take that.  Much better than good graphics and games that are about as enjoyable and in depth as the ninja turtles game for super nintendo 20 years ago.

What game is that second screenshot from?

I thought the second SS looked pretty good too lol.

It's from Vindictus which was made on the Source Engine.

    EQ looks horrible.

This thread reminds of me of the backlash against indie games on consoles.  A recurring theme is people being upset having paid a large sum of money for next gen games on their new console, only to be greeted with indie games with graphics from the 80s. The quality of MMO has gone downhill. You can easily make the case that EQ looks better than a large swat of budget MMO that seem to be everywhere.

Sure, you think indie games should be the focus on state of the art hardware? I don't.  People didn't buy a PS4 to play bubble bobs or minecraft.

Shovelware is always everywhere no mater what the genre in question is.. People still make and buy Nintendo era style games, as well as first/second generation console JRPG style games. Look at the popularity of RPG creator.

Yet that in no way speaks to the whole of a genre or what's being designed for it.

Good games take time, but I'm not sure what that has to do with the point here in this thread. Shovelware games aren't the average game, they're what's considered below it. Neverwinter is what the industry views as the current F2P offering, at least in terms of western publishers. Firefall or Planetside 2 being another example, EQN,. Landmark, H1Z1 etc.. being the upcoming standard.

WHat I'm confused about is whether you're trying to make your own point, or backing up the op as the op is way off.

Oh yes they are, unplayable junk and horrendously low quality games are par for the course on platforms like Steam, especially when it involves the F2P business model.

The amount of garbage far outstrips the handful of gems that come out each year.

Look at the top ten f2p games on Steam and tell me which one is bad?

Uhm? I have said that nowhere in the thread.

Pretty silly thread but what is truly sad is that Classic EQ does actually look better then Project Gorgon........lol

    Hmm so lets see..

2 games which are at least 7 years old - 1 of which was cancelled

1 game which is more of a 2d isometric view hack n slash - Cancelled

1 game which is basically an RTS

Damn. Those sure are great examples of "current" F2P MMOs

Why did I even click on this thread...I knew what it would contain, and yet I clicked on it anyway.

Wouldn't take the person you quoted seriously at all. Look through out this whole thread, I legit think she/he has a romantic relationship with EQ because the bias is super real with this one.

It's because everyone with some skill at game design is trying to jump in and claim a slice of the pie ever since MMO's became such a big deal world wide.

There are absolutely gorgeous F2P titles out there like some people have already said. You might as well go and make a thread "Why are all RPGs so fugly compared to FFVII?!" and link a couple of Indie games from Steam with 1% of Final Fantasy's budget. xD

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Uhhhh...all four of the screenshots in the OP looked better than the EQ screenshot.  What am I missing here?

Can't have much skill if the games end up looking like 16 bit games. Much too many people making games who don't have any idea what they are doing.

That hardly looks any better than the images she posted. It looks worse frankly, blocky and unfinished scenery.

Ummm, that's TERA.  You know, one of the best-looking MMOs on the market.  Not sure how anyone can actually say it doesn't look better than EQ.  lol

Many people do, it is why we buy graphics cards. Otherwise there would not be people building custom PC with expensive graphics cards.
