Is leveling still slow and do vet ranks still exist?

When I played at launch I found the leveling to be slow and boring. It also discouraged me when you had to grind vet ranks at end game. (So it added an even longer grind than what seems necessary.) Have they fixed any of this? Did they at least make leveling a bit faster?

I've been trying to get into this game for a few weeks now. Its just not clicking with me. One reason is that the leveling is really slow. The logic being not to rush to end game but explore. I'm a big Tes fan but this doesn't really feel like a Tes game to me. Also if you really want to get into this game you have to love crafting. Half the quest rewards suck really badly.  Go to any city and the crafting houses are always packed with players. If you don't make your gear you will fail in this game. And trying to improve your gear will fail alot on you. Which means you lose the items. The combat feels more like luck than skill. I got killed by 2 mobs and went back and killed 4 of the same mobs and i didn't do anything different from the first time. To me they want you to explore the world and craft. and give you little xp for doing it. Anyways i got my free 30 days out of it. Heck i almost didn't last that long. Beautiful game world but for me just not anything special. I'm spoiled by the single player Tes games.

The issue is not that the levelling is slow, its that you do not enjoy questing and crafting and exploring on offer here.  They do want you to explore and craft, which people are enjoying, and the XP rate is balanced so it keep player level inline with the volume of content in the zones. No point rushing everyone to end game that's for the lobby mmorogs out there,

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

I've come back recently and found combat and questing fairly fun and not really slow as it used to feel.  It helps to find a good combat build for leveling though and skipping any group oriented stuff because that will just slow you down.  Like the group public dungeons and regular group dungeons, the skull bosses on the map(even though they are fun to complete when people actually show up) and the Dolmens.  Figure I'll go back and do those later for endgame XP and achievements.

Really enjoying the game now that I've done that, finally cracked level 32 and can't wait to tackle the rest, which is frankly a ton.  It really helps to get into the quests and stories too, most are very well written and give me a chuckle here and there or show me a twist to the story that keeps them interesting.

Patch 1.6 sounds like even more awesomeness so now is a perfect time to be leveling and playing as the whole endgame XP aspect is going to change as is animations and a Justice system being added and a whole slew of other stuff I probably don't understand until I get to those levels.

My only issue with ESO now, and this really applies to most MMOs for me, is crafting.  I just don't enjoy it.  So I just vendor or Auction most everything valuable I pick up and I skip most mats, except enchanting stuff.  Trying to do that, but it seems like a very massive, boring grind.  No different than 99% of MMORPGs, so I live with it.  Really wish crafting could be just as fun and engaging as the leveling/combat side of games, they just never are.

Seems like just killing mobs is faster than doing quests, if you're in a hurry. You can just do the main quests for the skill points and the big chunks of xp. Then instead of doing the side quests, you can just kill mobs in high spawn density areas that are a bit above your level.

When I level an alt now, it goes pretty fast (1-50) if you just go over the map clearing all the delves, picking up skyshards and lorebooks, opening chests and killing as you go.

Going through the quests was great for me the first time, but after that I'd rather just level this way.

Vet ranks still exist, but they should be gone by spring or early summer at the latest.
