LF Simpler MMO

guiltyoneguiltyone Member UncommonPosts: 103

I’ve been out of MMORPGs for a fair bit of time now and looking to start back up with some down time I’ve got. I’ve found myself back in EverQuest 2 but really got over whelmed with the sheer number of Advancements, then AA, etc... So a friend recommended Drakensang, really straight forward click, kill, move on - I like it but there is no crafting element at all. Is there anything like this with a bit of crafting to it? Doesn’t have to be high end, browser based, or anything of the sort. Just less complicated than the convoluted system I just ran into with EQ2. PvP isn’t important to me at all, perfer to opt out altogether and stick with PvE.

When it comes to crafting and simplicity, that is usually what you will get.  Simple meaningless crafting.

I have heard good things about FFARR.  Haven't played it and it is a monthly sub game.

Fallen Earth is my favorite crafting game and completely free.  PvP is optional, you don't have to participate.

Finally I would suggest give Project Gorgon a try.  Completely free, however it is not a complete game just yet.  Still  highly playable at this point though.   Rather than levels, you raise skills by using  them .  Lots of unique features and a deep crafting system.

FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!

I'll look into Fallen Earth and FF this afternoon, I've seen Fallen Earth recommended a few times in other threads so it must be doing something right and be worth a look. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I will hold off on anything still actively in development though, tried that a fair bit in the past and often had the whole experience ruined for me. Best I wait and see the completed vision, but that's me.

I'll second giving Final Fantasy XIV a look. It has a very easy learning curve and explains everything as it's unlocked. If you want something really simple, you could also try Wizard101. It's aimed towards children, but it's actually a really fun and engaging game in its own right.

Yeah looking over gameplay videos this morning before I download anything and think FF might actually be the better bet, and there is a free trial. Wizard101 actually doesn't look all that bad, mostly just trying to avoid anything that requires a portion of my life to get involved with. Have a wife, kids, I'm active duty military, and involved with the local community and church. Love playing online with people, but I can't worry about calculators, point distribution, long term this, short term that, or getting a PhD in figuring out how one skill will affect other skills because you chose one thing here and another AA there - I just need to be able to sign in, go, and sign out at a reasonable stopping point. If all else fails, Drakensang does do that much so I can keep going with it, just wanted to see if adding crafting to that formula would be plausible.

If you are ok with action based combat (as in you aim sort of at the target you want to hit) then Neverwinter by Cryptic is a really good pick It is very straight forward and has some deepth but you can get in to said depth at your own pace.

Then ofc there is the T-Rex in the corner...

    World of Warcraft.

It does not get much easier then that. It is the MMO version of a warm blanket.. that also tell you nice things. There is ofc a catch... You will at some point want to join a guild. The good news is that there are guilds for every flavour of life. Are you a on call firefighter with two toddlers and a dog... No worries there is a guild out there for you too. Same if you are a 40+ year old old-school gamer that do not like dubstep but really enjoy dedicating the entire weekend to grinding mythic difficulty raids with 24 like minded people... There is a guild for you too.

WoW.. the allspice in your life.

This have been a good conversation

If you are looking for crafting as well as bosses and killing, Try Ashen Empires. Big crafting side to killing, making some gear, weapons, arrows etc, and creating potions like Superior healing potions and berserker potions. Crafting plays a nice chunk in the game, so I'd recommend that. Doesn't take up any time as you can log off anytime really, the only thing that'd be tough would be doing a raid or boss, but even than most players would understand if you said Hey, I really gotta run thanks. Good place to play as many will help you out! GL :)
  • I have to say FFXIV too. It's exactly what you're looking if you ask me.
