Final Fantasy XIV fans will be happy to know that patch v2.5, "Before the Fall", is headed into the game soon. To tease players with what they can expect, Square Enix has released a brand new trailer. Check it out!
23 lvl and i m having great fun. Lets see what the rest of the game offers and what the expansion will bring. It looks in my eyes the <most> mmorpg i have played since a long time.

Even though I'm excited for Heavensward, it kind feels pointless to me to play until maybe march once everything is out just for the story. But I usually lose motivation any way before an expansion that raises the level cap.
This update looks fantastic (especially the chocobo racing and other non-combat additions), but I wonder if I'm the only person that's just....done, with running dungeons over and over. I love the main scenario, and especially Hildibrand, but I just can't bring myself to run dungeons in FFXIV or WoW or anymore..
I'm honestly surprised this game got some coverage here the same day the news was released on SE's website. Maybe this game is starting to get the respect it deserves.
dreamscaper - I'm kinda there with you. I've been feeling burnt out on doing the end game raiding lately and I haven't even completed it all. I've been more interested in playing other games, like the new Dragon Age. I think at this point I'm more interested in the story in ARR, however the next few patches leading into the expansion look interesting.
I m having a good time lvling my first toon in the game, but i need to know if the end game is all about dungeons and raids. Is there any fun and rewarding open world content in mx lvl?

patch look amazing and fits my MMO target now, I am also bored of running dungeons and have been lately doing the following:
1.crafting and making gil
2.building my house in game.
3. beastman and delivery moogle series.
now I will have golden saucer and new trails and main scenario to add to the mix. I guess while the game have strict vertical progression it sure does offer many things on the side that are enjoyable.
Choo choo comes the content train, this time a bit earlier than usual.
I haven't even played the game this month but I'll pay up the fee regardless, just because SE isn't disregarding their customers like other MMO devs are.

There is some open world content at endgame but not alot and it has all more or less been negated. Open world is for leveling, gathering, and vanity gear. Instances are about progression at endgame.
The only 2 real endgame things in the open world are Hunt Bosses and Boss Fates (behemoth and odin)
All these drop though is vanity gear or early entree level gear to endgame as well as a few upgrade items to stuff from last patch. (Easier ways to get them though). Stuff that was worth wearing when the game was first launched launched. Most people do them for vanity purposes.
Endgame is primarily based on instance and token grinding. The game is more or less using the same model as WoW uses for endgame.

This is true, to an extend. It has the normal grind you would expect in an MMO but at least in FF14 I feel some value towards the side-ways content. Be it vanity or otherwise I enjoy my time on there. People need to stop being so focused on ensuring progression for their monthly fee and focus on the quality of the time spent. I'm having a blast, be it out in the world or in a dungeon.
I think the best part of that entire video was Odin....they finally gave Odin the respect he deserves and that's honestly worth coming back to just to experience. Not saying anything else is bad, just kinda seems a bit pointless to me until Heavensward aside from the story leading into the expansion. 8man Odin will be fun
Really wish I still had the time for this game. Had to give it up a couple months back due to a big schedule change and not being able to run with my raid group anymore and seemed pretty pointless to put more time & effort into the game by myself with no static group to do progression content with. Might try and fit it in later this year at least long enough to check out all the new stuff.
Originally posted by Draucant I'm not really a dungeon crawler. I do a few here and, mainly to unlock them. But there's plenty of things to do in game outside of dungeon grinding.
Not if you want to progress a combat class. You have two options: 1, grind dungeons, or 2, grind Coil. The only good gear found outside of these are the Atma/Zenith/etc weapons, and those require dungeoning at various points as well. Crafted gear is far below drops and tokened loot, and sadly there aren't any alternative progressions for them beyond gear.

The other things to do don't simply disappear just because you want to progress a combat class. It's hardly the game's fault if options are presented yet some players stick only to the gear trendmill anyway (because... reasons) and then choose to complain about the very fact.
Outside of the relevant raid dungeon progression beyond crafted gear is completely optional either way.
