I went with faction AD as an imperial, ( using a friends old account )

I want to go sword and board, is the templar is the best class for this?

also if you have any advice on how to do skill points or anything like that, that would be very helpful

thank you very much!

I find this game  sort of difficult as there are soooo many builds one can do.

I have a Templar and have used Sword and Shield. However, recently I started a nightblade with sword and shield and at lower levels, pve it works extremely well.

It really depends on what you want to do with the character.

Quest to 15 or so... Grind the rest... only do the main zone story quest.

Use your guild to learn new waypoints.  Always travel to a guild member, then use the wayshrine to go to wherever you actually wanted to go.

I did not go AD, but I found using quests where you have something help you kill you can continuously cycle these areas and kill until you no longer get xp, it is the fastest method.  When you cannot use this method, look for zombie type mobs to kill.

VR1+ assuming they have no changed craglorn anymore.. grind here.

Classes vary.  When I played the OP was destro staff at high end.. this is one of the main reasons I quit... the build I wanted could not compete.

Of all classes I played, I found NB to take the longest, then DK, then templar, then sorc.  (sorc being by far the fastest- I did a reaver type build where I healed by doing dmg/crits)

Templar I did Sword and board.  Use it to work with your build.. s+b does not necessarily equate to tanking only.

Skill points- collect the shards- do the main quest lines.

Questing is too slow due to travel downtime.  You will also earn a much greater amount of money by grinding.  Overall I found deconning everything green and higher to be the best method to obtaining full crafted sets deconning blue and higher was immediately more money- but overall if I sold my green mats I would earn more gold (due to the time the game has been out this may no longer be the case).

As far as templar goes, Vet levels and higher I used s+b or resto staff.  I could play the role of dps or healer (using AE heal from staff and templar heal abilities) which helped me find a group in craglorn more quickly.

Towers was the best grind spot VR1+.  Do not advertise your level to find a group, advertise what you are- tank/dps, dps/healer etc.  Saying Vr1 is not a selling point, saying Vr11 on the other hand would be...

Selling raw mats will earn you money more quickly but yields less overall than you using these mats yourself (due to the additional materials you aquire)

Besides the first character (the one I used to find the best spots to level) it took about 30-42 hours played to level from 1 to vr12.    4-6 hours a day for a week and you are max level... and you should be about half way to a full player crafted set.  Don't listen to the people who say they have been playing for months this is not possible...  I had all 4 classes at vr12, 3 of them took me 7days or less... while working a full time job.  I imagine if I took vacation, or played more- I could of probably did it in 3days or less.

I am not the type who follows the story or roleplays in the game.  I do not care to read.. I skip everything because it does not interest me... so do not tell me it is not possible- because it would not be possible if you make sure to do every quest and read or listen to every line.

Interesting advice. I would say that your advice only works if the player is solely interested in getting to max level, possibly pvp'ing. I don't see any reason why a player couldn't listen to every bit of dialogue and still make it to max level. It will just take longer.

But then agian, it depends on "why" one is playing.

All classes can use all weapons equally as well, but yes Templaes can be extremely tanky with 1h shield.

I would recommend when you turn in quests have as many 1h shield skills and the templar abilities you want to use on your active bar. Swap them out if need be.

I would absolutely do as many quests as you can, enjoy the lore(this is a big part of elder games) it really helps to engage with the world and characters, you also get a ton of skill rewards this way. I would also join the mage and warrior guilds - they have great storylines too. also gather and craft on the way, it's fun picking up the skills, and a good gold earner (I craft all but BS, and sell Bs materials at about 500 a say @level 38).

I would also recommend not worry about getting the best build, and experiment as you go, you can reskill at the end and can amass over 300 skill points.

Finally, use that gathering and selling to buy bags and a pack horse, also setup an alt or 2 to store stuff, e.g I drop all my food items into my bank and get an alt to pull them out into his bags.

That would be my advice too. ESO has some awesome stories, and it's very much a story-driven MMO. It would be a shame to skip all of that.

Also, it doesn't even require reading, since the game's fully voice acted. (And very nicely done at that too)

At least enjoy the quests with your first character. Additional characters you can grind all day.

I'm alittle confused on how you grind in the game, if I'm lvl 8, do I grind on lvl 8-9 mobs?  Where normally is the best places to grind at?

I've been dying a lot, I think once I get some okay gear I'll be much better.

I can typically kill 2-3 mobs at the sane level as myself at the same time, and mini bosses at the same level, just got to keep moving and use some defensive skills where needed. You would be mad to skip all that lovely content by skipping it all by grinding past it all, that's just me though.

yeah, I have to say when I read his advice my first thought was, "there's someone who is doing it wrong", but then if you are a min-maxer, then clearly his advice is best.

Heck, I played about 23 or so days (only a few hours a day) and had a single level 35 DK or something like that.

Storm class tree has one of the best ultimate abilities in the game as it can be turned on or off and not a one time use. This will be extremely important come 1.6 patch when they change how ultimate is generated.

As for my favorite PvP class. I chose Algorian Nightblade with enough points in Alchemy to have the max increased potion buff. I then have mostly health stat with a mix between magicka and stamina. Algorians are also innately resistant to poison so they make the best werewolves. I go bow for ranged attacks and then use a combination of Assassination and Siphoning for close quarter combat. With the added potion effect bonus from being Algorian, Nightblade and Alchemist. I can pretty much full heal with a potion, which can truly infuriate your opponents when they think they've won the day.

There are a lot of viable builds out there and 1 vs 1 can be just as fun and exciting as 10 vs 10 or 50 vs 50. Every scenario plays out exactly as it should, which is why I feel ESO is definitely Dark Age of Camelots true RvR successor.

I know you were going from memory and meant Argonians but Algorian struck me as an excellent name for a race in the Star Trek universe... probably related to Vulcans :)

Is algorian logic = Al Gore logic? Like how New York is supposed to be under water by now?

When Update 6 is out your lightening form will probably give you the generic Major Defense buff. Remember they are changing a lot of skills and especially how you gain better stats. I believe when this happens DK/Temp/Sorc will all have the same access to damage shields and resistance buffs. Especially with using other weapons.

Quite a grip I had with the game is that magic was a must, class = magic school.

Are non-magic, solely relying on weapon skill, builds viable...?

My advice would be to avoid the soul draining time burns that do nothing to engage you in the content or offer a sense of accomplishment, which in this game is just about everything.

What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty?

    thank you very much!

For lvling you can use this with  Sword/shield. Wear most light armor for magicka management. I suggest you run resto staff in 2nd weapon (Heavy attack restore Magicka) and apply rapid regen on you before fight.

Shield / board is really popular for any class in PvP, because of his defensive passif. Templar and DK are the best known for Sword and Board.

If you do this you're not getting your money's worth and will probably not like the game much. Reason why the game is good is 1) Cyrodiil and 2) stories and 3)Class/Skill system+Combat. You'll always get 3 and probably 1 if you want, but not 2 if you skip everything.

Also I think they nerfed Craglorn. Anything 5-6 levels higher than you and if you don't do enough damage to them you won't get much of anything.
