ArcheAge is one of the best - the game definately has the right idea - it's only setback, the cash shop and monetization.... It's the deathknell of all gaming. These people can't help themselves, greed has overcome, you only get one shot sometimes to make a game, game development at large is just one big cash grab, no one is in it for the long term.

I think comes down to gamers as they want a lot stuff from a game, but never stay to the long term do to what aspect of the game turn them away from what they wanted. So game's seem to end up going short term, make as much money one can, then hope for the best it don't shink to fast.
Consider the gauntlet thrown down from one sandbox to another. Das Tal Head of Communications David Wellsposted a new essay today in which he says that his title will best ArcheAge: "Unfortunately I, like a lot of others, have come to the conclusion that ArcheAge is probably one of the worst MMOs to come out recently -- but the reasons why are not straight forward. I am going to go over the good and bad, as well as shamelessly point out how our game will do things better."
Wells says that ArcheAge stumbled with a messy housing system, bad monetization, cultural differences, hacking, heavy grind, lackluster PvE, no solid PvP, shaky server tech, and a lack of good communication byTrion. He goes on to provide a counterpoint for each these items, explaining how Das Tal will succeed where ArcheAge has failed.
Or, if you're looking for a TL;DR version, "How we do it better: To put it simply, we give a s**t."
Wow. This guy has guts. It's unprofessional to blast other devs like this. I also disagree with him. Archeage wasn't that bad.
So the Das Tal devs are full of it - this is what they posted on their official Youtube channel:
So in the blog they are saying how much they are going to do better - but 3 hours ago - they are saying they can't surpass ArcheAge and in fact are an entirely different type of game that shouldn't be compared to AA at all.
So yeah - again the whole purpose of that blog article was = publicity.
What in the world are you talking about? The article was meant to compare very specific features they have in common . Never did it boast it would be better than ArcheAge or some sort of direct competitor. Das Tal is barely even a proper MMO. Its going to literally be counterstrike with elves with regular server wipes and resets (seasons).
Sounds like they really rustled your jimmies over a little ArcheAge bashing.
Hello guys! I am the writer of said article and just wanted to jump in. If you have any questions I am happy to answer.
The article itself was not meant as a venomous jab, and it comes a lot more from me personally and my experiences than it does from 'Das Tal'. I played ArcheAge, liked a lot about it and disliked other things - and that experience influenced some of my thoughts about how we would conduct our own development process. Just because I dislike these things does not mean I am calling AA the devil or ourselves the savior of a genre, it just means we want to do things differently from them.
If anyone would like finer details on any of it, I am happy to chat about it. Thanks for considering the points I raise too, even if you may not agree with them.

The irony is really strong after your post about big annoucement about ESO. I don't care how good or bad his game is. that is irrelevant. I knew AA fans will take potshots at his game and try to deflect the heat from AA. it is a typical tactic to try to derail the actual discussion.

Running with the presumption you are who you say you are, I admire you identify yourself instead of playing the role of a shill.
Still, when you have the opportunity, for your own benefit, you should consider finding a good pr person. There are people very adept at doing what you're trying to do here, and your time and effort are better spent developing your game.
Originally posted by marcmy I haven't seriously played ArcheAge, only dabbling in beta for a bit, but has anyone seen the videos of the raids? They're laughable. Also... animations. Most of the players in the videos were archers spamming one skill and their characters looked like they were plucking their bows in timescale x1000. Could never play a game like that. =/
Well to be honest, PVE in AA was added as an afterthought...kinda. It's simple I guess. Get gear and win, skill doesn't matter that much.
As for archers...yeah, popular class, and they only have 1 skill for DPS...endless arrows, which shoots arrows...a lot of them. You have only a few other skills which as DPS go aren't that great for long fights coz they mana starve you in few rotations + CDs. So you can just press 1 and go away for a coffee heh.
Anyway, AA could be amazing if XL Games gave a shit. They don't even listen to their own Korean players (according to a Korean that streamed it - notice the past tense). Thing is, it wouldn't require a lot to be a much much better game than it is now. Trino is also doing a shitty job managing what they have. So yeah...
And that Das Tal looks like crap, it better have some amazing gameplay
Successfully finish and launch Das Tal and then we can talk....
AA is still the only open-world PvP mmo that looks really nice on top of having an important economy and crafting system. It does have some P2W elements in it, however the whales have mostly left the game and everyone is catching up in terms of gear as well.
Land is basically "working as intended" at this point and land hacking is almost reduced to nothing although does still exist. Gold spamming is still there though...
Labor is where the money is now. Whether that is good or bad, you decide. Being strictly a "laborer" can net you some decent gold, on par with trade runs due to inflation.
If you haven't played in awhile you should at least check out 1.7.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

I'll second that.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
Originally posted by fivoroth I have no idea who Das Tal is. But I wholeheartedly agree with the title statement. This game is the biggest steaming pile of crap I have recently played. I can't think of a worse MMO. I really can't.
You haven't looked at Das Tal.
Here is what it looks like - it's nothing like ArcheAge - it's an isometric game like Albion Online, Shadowbane etc...
Ok, this is worse than Archeage.
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.

Yet you speak of it in the passed tense less than 6 months after it was released...
He's right, AA is a big pile of crap. It isn't all crap, it might even have less crap than many other recently released MMOs but overall it definitely is a big pile of steaming crap.
That's because i didn't like certain features in AA, but that doesn't mean the game as a whole is badly designed. It has great features such as gliding, trade runs, sailing, farming, etc. To dismiss a whole game because someone dislikes certain things is foolish.
Yeah, too bad they didn't go together in any kind of cohesive synergy. Was just like they took a lot of 'ideas' and threw them together. Jake Song failed big time on this game, he knows it.
not going to comment on ArcheAge since that horse has been beaten too much already, but i will say that This head of communications for Das Tal shows how dumb he is by comparing a fully 3D mmorpg with an isometric point and click top down Diablo-like game.
Das Tal does look interesting but if people with his attitude are running it then i dont see it doing very well. But ill probably wont care a single bit if it doesnt offer WASD movement as an option.
The core design by Jake Song is incredible. It's what I feel in love with many years ago when AA first appeared. But the port by Trion, the horrible implementation of the cash shop, and the unchecked land finished by bots basically ruined a brilliant game by a brilliant designer.

It doesn't have to be good. What he did was a success. He got people to look at his game. People who otherwise would of never heard of it, got to see it and a few of them will undoubtedly try it.
Personally I like some of what I saw, but it lacks the depth for me to play. The whole limited grinding thing and seasons with server wipes is not my idea of an MMORPG. Grinding is only a bad thing if its designed poorly. It can be fun and I believe long term progression should be weaved throughout all forms of gameplay in an MMO. Otherwise, I'd just play FPS games and forget about MMOs forever.

You are correct, it gets people to look at his game. And on that note, I was unimpressed. I would rather play AA before playing his. That is not saying that I am willing to go back to AA at this point. I do think his points are well stated if not mostly self serving. AA had some great points but also had some really annoying points which has turned many people away from that game (including me). But again, I did not see ANYTHING in this Das Tal that looking even worth looking into further.

Haven't played AA, I saw the writing on the wall when it was still in beta.
But considering that Das Tal is some sort of messy isometric ARPG-MMO looking abortion. They aren't on the right track either.
