Don´t understand why people are mad about this.

Works with GW2 should work in ESO also :)

Love for this game made me blind to obvious cliff ESO was heading to.

I cover my head with ash.

Wow man, i don't agree with you on the negativity to B2P model but your attitude here is a shining example for internet communities. I felt it was a very sincere and well intended post that needed to be highlighted. Kudos to you mate, we need more like this on the interwebs.

    This, sadly, I agree with.

GW2 might be releasing an expansion soon (still waiting for official confirmation).

If it happens, I don't see why ESO wouldn't follow in the foosteps of GW2 and release an Xpack as well - if the game is successful enough.

what do you consider soon? If the're just now registering it and not even announced yet your looking at about another 2 more years. (waiting 4 years for real new content!!)

Well its maybe just my opinion but it doesn't work well for GW2 so I doubt it work well with ESO. Waiting probably close to 4 years for any real content and slow bug fixes with many from launch like kicking players from groups still unsolved doesn't exactly make GW2 a glowing example to follow in my book

Nope. If expansion there is, it will be released within the year - possibly 6 months.

You need to follow the news/game story to understand this, but basically the cliffhanger is tying up as an introduction into the (possible) expansion - so there won't be 2 years between now and the release.

Works really well for GW2. They're making plenty of money. The figures do not lie about it.

You're wrong about GW2, this is an uninformed post, and the game hasn't been out for 4 years.

Or you can just play RIFT and get all content for free*.

    * Yeah, OK, the soul packs, earring slots, and water-plane attunement aren't available immediately for free, but you can earn all of those things via gameplay alone without spending a dime.

stop all this bash bash and bash

Lets time say if worth or no

Called it even before the game was released. It was obvious that at one point, the game would go either F2P or B2P. Now I can laugh at all the people who said that ESO was such a good game that it would never go F2P or B2P. I also love how people felt for the "our game will release content faster because of the monthly sub" look at how that turned out.

If I can get it on sale on PC I'll probably check it out... but depending on what's in the cash shop / DLC I'm not sure I'll stick around for long.

People keep saying it's like GW2 which doesn't have a sub added on.  It's actually more like SWTOR with subscriber perks.  I believe they want more money just like SWTOR does, so their cash shop will eventually be P2W.

I wonder if you will be able to link to your Steam account after, March 17th.?

Also update 6 was suppose to be on PTS by now, so it's running late, which means either no PTS or PTS and no time to make final fixes so expect problems after update.

All of you freeloaders do not understand dedication in a game.

You play for a month and move on.

This is the fate of ESO. Sad really.

Question: What do you believe provided the money to develop TESO in the first place?

Answer: ES titles that went before.

Question: what did the earlier ES titles have in common besides the lore etc.

    Answer: they were all B2P.

So are you damning all previous ES players? All those Skyrim players who have logged hundreds of hours?

    Yeah ....

What they seem to have announced is B2P + optional sub + cash shop. Not really GW2. And certainly not a Destiny style B2P + DLC.

And giving crowns every month to people who subscribe will - I fear - lead to a focus on fluff over content.

I wouldn't be surprised however if the first "new content" is Imperial City however - available for 500 crowns. Got to get people to sign up for the cash shop after all.

And a warning I posted in another post: it may well be cheaper to buy the content rather than subscribe and try to buy the content with the crowns. Indeed not subscribing and only buying content may get them to focus on producing content rather than fluff.

And yes I to suspect something has changed. The plan - you feel - must have been to get 1.6 out, see how it went and then flex the release date if needed. With a possible release date announcement in early March - 3 months after they withdrew the 6 month sub. Suggests something has changed. If 1.6 blows up ......

The 6 month (optional) sub is back though; the one they scrapped because ...... of all those reasons (cough). At times like this you have to feel sorry for the poor CS staff who end up spouting rubbish because they have been told to. Kinda wish management would just tell them to make no comment on such matters.

So it could barely hold on to it's subscribers for 12 months before it had to change the revenue model. The game must be even worse now than when i played it in open beta. Still not worth my money though.

    Release Date: April 4, 2014  ~  B2P/CashShop Date: March 17, 2015

    Is that a new record?

I guess to reel in you braindead F2P players. So there is going to be a shop AND DLC packs? Does no one else find that alarming? In a year or two we are gonna be seeing the same thing I saw in LoTRO, a bunch of quest packs and content I am behind with. The only argument to this whole thing  I see is "why not sub then?". Does that not defeat the purpose? I am unaffected because I will just sub when I want to play as I do know, but its funny to see people think they are getting a bargain.

Then what should they do? How should they monetize they game? Its seems just the sub wasn't making enough so now it'll be b2p with DLC. I don't see a issue with it. They need to make money some how and if its just paying for content over a really bad cash shop I'll take it.

DCUO does it and it seems to work just fine.

They had to make this change because of the console release. Everyone knew this was coming when they said they release on console. You can't make console players pay PSN+/XBL and a subscription fee and expect PC gamers to still pay a monthly subscription.

    ______________________________________________________________________________

PS: The only exception are FFXI/FFXIV because they have a track record of delivering quality content every 3 months and are worth their subscription even on a console.

Zeni didn't "throw PC players under a bus" and PC players who are "angry at feeling like they paid for an ongoing beta" are not justified in doing so, they are entitled brats imo, geez.

I just resubbed for three months and I feel incredibly happy about the shift to B2P and have no regrets about paying my sub. Now I won't have to pay the game tax to play this great mmo, all is good.

    +1

Yeah this is the funny part. I wondered if anyone else caught this.

  • HarikenHariken Member EpicPosts: 2,680
People need to stop comparing it to GW2.  GW2 does not have a sub.period. ESO will be B2P with sub.options. That's completely different. So if they have sub.options content may come sooner than it does with GW2.

That is surely your opinion, to which you are entitled, however you do not speak for everyone.  Stop doing so.  Many people do feel used, it looks terrible, and they are justified for feeling so.  get off your high horse.

People should start running from this game now if they are going for the SWTOR model because what you can expect from that is small xpacs with a huge emphasis in trying to milk players with the cash shop. Seriously, subscribers don't even get full access to all emotes in the game because they are locked away in the cash shop in packs, with no guarantee of giving you what you want, which totally sucks for roleplayers like me.

First don't try to bully me into not giving my opinion on a gaming forum, and cut out the personal insults.

Second, that's why I said "imo", but certainly there is a lot more merit in my opinion in this case than in the people crying about having "paid for a beta" , or feeling like Zenimax somehow betrayed them. That's because those responses are purely emotional and based on your preference for having a sub. How does the game suddenly become a beta overnight with a change in business model?

What is outrageous imo, is not the change to a b2p model, which the company is quite entitled to do, and which is actually a great move, but the pitiful response from supposed fans of the game that heap such hate and blame on the devs that work their butts off to give you the chance to play this amazing mmo.

Surprises? I am not surprised in the least. We know the track record these past few  years. This is what they all do.

I bet many pc players are thrilled having paid for beta testing for consoles. Especially knowing consoles often set the lower barre in hardware, gfx, ui and game design.
