I totally disagree. WoW clones do not change. If they did the genre would not be going away from that style and more toward open Sandbox style of games. Any game built around linear quest hub progression will always be just that. I have not seen one change yet.  All they will ever do is add more of the same like new zones, bosses and instances. That's a /yawn to me everyday.

Then you totally ignore that many themeparks do just that, by creating new areas to change up the typical story formula. WOW (as well as others) are full of it. Some are more open (oldish style wow), some are more closed and treadmill focused, essentially based on whichever game they wanted to emulate in their focus for that zone.

Linear in this sense is a narrative... at least what you're referring to. Which is what GW2's world focus lacks, they save it for solo play mostly. That is really the only major difference between GW2 and just about any other theme-park. General game-play remains the same. Collect or kill x amount of y... Your goals are still predefined. Which is what separates a real sandbox from Gw2...It's not anymore player driven than any other themepark. On top of that just about their entire update focus has been on offering more narrative.

I'm neither a fan of FF or WOW, but you're highly overselling GW2 over them here.. That's nothing new when it comes to GW2 though, or the original.

Most themeparks are linear and predefined due to the leveling progression system.  If not for that, they would basically become "sandboxes", or non-linear gameplay.  Any sandbox game that has levels could also be said to have predefined leveling paths as a goal, where the ultimate goal is reaching max level, or the next level.

Take away levels in these games, and you have access to multiple aspects of the game, or in other words, "endgame".

I'm sorry for you GW2 fanbase, I truly am.

When GW2 gets bashed to the ground and re-releases, maybe they would release an expansion faster after sucn an incident.

So, too bad it didn't get bashed to the ground I guess?

    GW2 is alive and well.

    FF is alive...dead...alive....dead....alive....dead.

    Get it?

Don't mind him this is all he does. Jump from one MMO forum to another beating drum of how awesome FFXIV is.

Just hit report button and mods will take care of these foolish attempts to start flame wars.

Yes, it's not like my point is extremely valid, heh.

I think the point is is they are two different style games. Folks that play GW2 really love the idea of this expansion no matter when it comes out. Plus, they didn't have to pay $14.99 a month like FF players did for that "expansion". GW2 fans saved about $180.00 not playing FFXIV.

I have played both games and they have their own merits, but I wouldn't go to a forum and ridicule a title merely because an expansion came out earlier than another.

Anyways you are not baiting me into FFXIV vs GW2 nonsense. So i will just pay no attention to you.

I am not baiting anyone. I simply stated the facts. GW2 players deserve better. That is my opinion.

There's no need to be upset.

Not sure the point of bringing this up really... FF14 has actually been out for over 4 years without an expansion - in fact, the original FF14 was so bad they had to shut down the original game and completely redo it.

I started out as a strong GW2 support.

Over the last year I have been very negative towards GW2.

Depending on how they pull off the "subclass" thingy, how many new skills and weapons they add, they could well win me back.

Side note: I think that gliders are an EXCELLENT choice that avoids mounts and full flight mechanics that could have well ruined this game.  Well played, ANET!  That is the first complement you have gotten from me in about a year!

I think they should have introduced more than 1 new class because naturally NOW it's going to be Revenant Wars 2 for some time.

They should have also released more weapons/skills because AGAIN no variety.  Everybody will be trying these and be the same.

Gliders? I doubt they do this like how Archeage or Aion does. Probably only works in 1 area.

I need more input.  Must resist hype... fell for this before NEVER AGAIN.

I think it says something that I haven't seen very many negative comments about this announcement. Really is a pretty solid list of features and content that put most of the naysayers in their place.

Especially when you consider all the living story content that has been coming out consistently anyway, even if you didn't like it.

They certainly have WoW killed on the content creation front. Apparently releasing new updates hasn't stopped ANet from working on a massive expansion too.

They said its going to be the biggest zone in game. They also said it will have three seperate tiers, Ground level, Root level and Canopy. So it should be sort of be like 3 huge zones in 1.

They actually said it would be a new region opened up, not a new map. A region is something like Kryta, which contains 7 maps, or Ascalon which contains 6 maps. So it's not going to be 1 map, it's going to be 1 region with multiple maps.

They never said each class only gets one. Only that we do get them. In fact the way he worded this and Specializations makes it sound as if there will be multiples to choose from.

If it's anything like the GW1 expansion releases I would say 3-4 months. That was kind of ArenaNet's standard time between announcement and release of expansions.

I like what they showed so far and I'm excited to see more info come out over the next few months.

I think if it was gonna be released in 3-4 more months they would have told us so. Cant think of any company that waits till 4 months before release to trademark and announce a release. They generally start the hype about a year in advance.

Was really hoping for main hand pistol for mesmers for the dual wield. Just 1 weapon added per class seems kinda weak.

Still vague to me too, but this is what I found. "Specialisations in Heart Of Thorns is a system that allows each profession to master a new specialisation, to grow it into a secondary profession. For example, Ranger's will be able to learn and master the abilities of the Druid in the jungle. They'll be able to grow themselves to become a Druid. When they become a Druid they'll unlock a whole new set of skills and weapon sets. "

Reading that you may think it's something like archeage where you combine two roles to form a "new" one, but I doubt it's going to be that in depth.

Well, GW: Nightfall were actually comming out of nowhere with very little forwarning but I got the impression from the live feed that it will be some time before we see this expansion.

They do have a huge team so I guess it is possible (but not very likely) that they can get it out in time for the games 3 years birthday but my guess would be in time for the holidays.

Most games tend to take about 9 months from the officially announce an expansion to the time it goes live.

We don't really know how long they have been working on this and as I said before, GW2 do have one of the largest crews out there but I still think it would have leaked if it was close to a launch. If it launch sooner than 6 months from now I would be very surprised indeed.

With the informatiom we have so far it is hard to tell. They did mention that the mechanics would be different but the question is how much.

At worst you will gain a few skills and a new weapon, at best you can change from one class to a new one when you maxed out.

We really need more information about this.

A good solid game and one of the better mmos I have played . Even though I don't play it all the time its something I return now and then . Certainly has been great value for money . I will get the expansion and any subsequent expansions they put out and fully intent to support any mmo that releases as buy to play or becomes buy to play .

Its the most honest payment model . With buy to play you pay for something that has been developed where as with the subscription model you pay for something that is being developed and with the free to play model you pay nothing for what really is a demo most of the time .

Well, given what little information we know, we can reasonably assume that it will be at leas ~5 months until the release date. This is taking the ~ every 2 weeks spoiler release, and multiplying that by the professions we know of. Being as there are now 9 professions, that's roughly ~18 weeks.

However, I'm betting there is more they are holding back. Like others have speculated, I'm guessing there is more than just 1 specialization per class. There is still a lot of details we still don't know, and they've been deliberately vague about it. I'm guessing we can expect the expansion in roughly ~8 months. Putting it at around a September / October release schedule. That would put it in roughly the same timeframe as the anniversary, and also it's about as much time as they could reasonably milk the information hype before it starts to get sour.  Time will tell.

AA system sound good, and more weapon types to use. The rest I don't care about. Though I had secretly hoped for some groundbreaking change that could make gw2 interesting for me to play, but ok I am not exactly the target audience, and why risk alienating your core players.
