I had a few ideas on some sports for Reclamation.

Most sports can be played on any plane with a heartstone.  Playing the sport requires someone in a position of power of the guild that controls that plane.  The person accesses a special function of the heartstone which can be used to start the various events.  A lot of these events will disable some security features in the plane in regards to some of the participants (dreamstructs in that plane will only act defensively instead of aggresively), so starting one of these events can be a bit of an act of trust.

Some of these games have the option of using special items or charms.  These items ONLY work if you are participating in the game.  If you are "out" the items stop working.

Capture:  A good old fashioned capture the flag game.  When initiated at the heartstone, the initiator is given two flags, he then hands them off to the two team captains.  The initiator is automatically a referee, anyone he adds to his party shares this role.  The team captains then move to the spots in the plane where they wish to plant their flags.  They use the flag item and they'll get a dialog asking for a color and emblem, after everything is set, a flag appears at that spot.  All people who wish to join a team then uses the flag.  The captain, when he's got a full enough team uses the flag agian to close team registration, a dialog with the names pops up, allowing him to edit the list and then confirm.  When both sides are ready, the referee gets a notice that the game is ready to start, he then confirms the game start and the hearstone'll spring into action, teleporting both teams to their flag.  While the game is in effect if any team recieves outside aid or hinderance, the referee team will recieve a notification of exactly what happened so they can intervene.  The idea is to get close to the opposing flag and use it, doing so will move it into the flag carrier's inventory.  he can then run it back to his team's flag for a capture.  The ref can set several options.

  • Captures:  Amount of captures to win the game.
  • Hard or Soft:  A hard game is one for people who don't mind being collapsed, live weaponry and all arts are allowed.  A soft game limits the arts avaliable and instead every team member gets a "capture charm" getting pegged a pre-determined amount of times with this charm removes you from the game.
  • Arts:  Arts can be allowed or disallowed.  If they are disallowed, each team can still evoke them, but they get a warning when they start using the art, and if they ignore the warning the referee gets notified when they use the art.
  • Retrieval:  Referee can toggle if the flag gets teleported back to it's home when the carrier is defeated.

Tag:  This is a game that can be played anywhere.  It is initiated by any dreamsmith who fashions a "Tag Charm"  This also comes in melee flavor.   Holding this item causes the dreamer to glow, firing it attempts to open a conduit for give with another dreamer.  If the shooter succeeds in scoring a hit, he forces the charm upon someone else if they havei nventory room.  That person starts glowing and now it's his turn to pass it on.  The charm can be disposed of like any normal item or even handed away in the conventional fashion.

Defend:  One team is given a totem they got to drop anywhere they please, the other team captain is given a load of coup sticks to hand out to his team.  The coup stick is a nondamaging melee weapon.  The object of the game is to strike the defender's totem as many times as possible with the coup stick.  The game has several options.

  • Hard/Soft:  Like capture, this can be played with real damage or not.
  • Arts:  The use of arts can be limited
  • Hits:  The amount of hits required for the attackers to win.
  • Time:  The amount of time the defenders need to defend the totem to win.

That's what I have off the top of my head.

Sounds like a cool idea, kind of like a new age Dreamers Cup. It would definately be nice to have a 'coded' system for in-dream games like this. Dreamers Cup Arena in UL (which I never even seen) I hear has incorporated some things into UL at least, although a bit too late. I can't say how many times I wished there was a hard coded way for blade duels to count hits on each other to everyone in the room! Sometimes lag would prevent a scream to detect a hit, then you didn't always know who screamed, etc. Thus, in addition to the above 'sports' I'd add the classic Blade Duel with option for X amount of hits, that deal no actual damage. Just a coded way to count hits. Maybe an option for duel to collapse or whatnot. Duelling of all sorts has been a staple in Underlight, and I think hard coded ways into Reclamation to track these duels would be excellent. Maybe make it a part of Reclamation's 'Duelling Arena'?

I love the idea of having part of the dream being setup for those games

Like an arena within the dream where dreamers go to win and reclaime the glory of the old days for their guilds and their pride!!!

Heres another one something like paint ball where it would be you get hit by a chakram once your out!

races !! have random spots in the race track that could slow a dreamer down or speed burst them!!!

Back in Ul, I had this idea for a special arena room for team based vs games, I mean as it astands, we just got a couple of arenas for scrapping.

Now, in Ul, it's possible for a portal to dump you into a different spot in the same room, that little hiding nook in gloom behind that bloofall is one good example.  you'd have an arena with several different areas in one room.  There'd be a waiting pit in the bottom where you enter before entering one of two 1 way portals that dump you into 1 of two small forts in the room.  The forts got portals which dump you into a central area of the room which has portals leading into either fort and possible balconies to play with as well, which don't really need portals so long as they aren't really climbable.

Now, the fun part is a walkway going around the whole arena, this walkway would have an invisible barrier seperating the spectators from the contenders in the arena, while allowing them to see ALL aspects of the fight at once.  They can look into either fort from their vantage point.  Also this allows referees to monitor the entire room at once, and prevents people from playing the portal hop to avoid art based smackdowns.

The only proble with thatidea though when I thought about it was the infinite range of offensive and defensive arts in UL.  Someone could hide in the opposing fort and spam abjures from accross the room to the other fort.  I do not know if arts have range in reclamation but it'd be an idea to impose something to the likes in my humble opinion.  Also the spectators would be capable of interferring with arts, unless someone was on hand to make sure they behave.
