When I bought this game on June 6, 2001 and it was so buggy and had such a bad launch I quit. I never thought it would be around 4 months. I was shocked to see it still around in 2003 when I decided to give it another try. Been around ever since. Happy 4th WWIIOL and CRS.

I had been watching the old orange forums back in winter/spring 2001 and was keeping up with the development in WWIIOL. Back in April/May 01, there were a leagion of people trying to get into the beta team. I remember the posts back then that people were willing to spend money to become part of the beta. All reasonable expectations were for WWIIOL to be released for Dec 01.
To my supprise, later that month (May) it was reported that WWIIOL went gold. June 6th was the first day it showed up in stores. On the first day, tons of people signed into the subscription site that it brought down the whole servers. The forums overnight changed from "happy-go-lucky" optimists topics to "angry-mob-with-lawyers-on-pitchforcks-assualting-the-developers" posts. I decided that it was released too early and that I would wait 3-6 months before I bought it.
In between all the angry posts, there were a few after action reports (aars) of people actually logging in for a few hours (before the servers crashed) and having the most intensive experence on a pc. They described people trying to defend a town from hoards of enemy infantry/armor and aircraft. Flights of stukas dive bombing people on roads trying to drive from one town to the next. Groups of people setting up anti-tank guns on hills and controlling a whole valley from enemy approach. I continued to find different people who claimed that they have never experenced what WWIIOL provided in any game before. All human driven first person simulated war.
Well, after reading all the posts both negitive and positive, I concluded that the leagion of people willing to pay money to become a Beta tester just got there chance.
It only took me a week to be convinced that I wanted to become a paying beta tester too. Logged in June 13th 01, never unsubbed.
Happy birthday CRS

lol.
I too was shocked that this game was still alive.
As a WWII fan trying to find a good realistic WWII game, I got to say I'm quite surprise this game will be my future "favorite" game.
The free trial from March was sooooo fun... (well atleast in the last days when I got more used to the game)
