i started playing last night, and i am enjoying it to a point. i began on a pve server that allows you to keep your recipes so i could learn the game before getting on a pvp server
i like that there is a learning curve for new players, took me a while to figure out how the bow worked, and its hard to aim it so i like the challenge. however it sure gets redundant to do the same thing over and over because of the permadeath aspect. once you die you must go make your satchel, bow and arrows again, which is collecting the sticks, and of course lots of blackberries. you cant have enough of these because if you run out of hydration and/or energy you slowly die.
i have had some interesting deaths, i have run out of hydration because i couldnt find water or bottles, i have run out of energy because i have never found a knife or hatchet to skin the animals i kill . i had another player run circles around me so the zombies that were chasing him jumped me instead, and of course i have died to a bear, pack of wolves... which given all that it is actually a lot of fun... the first 100 times anyways.
my best time was killing a zombie who had so much stuff on him, an awesome backpack, lots of food and items that i was able to discover more recipes.... but of course i ran out of hydration,, and blackberries just dont replenish enough... i suppose you could spend two hours harvesting black berries, but when you die you lose them so its a wasted effort.
so although the game is fun at the beginning, the problem is two fold... you have to find the knife or hatchet in order to get some much needed items for crafting, however if you never find them you are very limited, if you find meat for example you need logs for a campfire to cook it, however to get the logs you have to chop down a tree, which of course you need some sort of metal weapon... so that kinda hinders your progress
also if you do find cool stuff you will lose it on death ( i dont die to zombies anymore at all) and have to start all over...
which leads me to my subject.... what or how can there be an "endgame" with this game with the permadeath thing.. basically after the 10th time respawning , it gets really old having to rinse and repeat everything you just spent three hours doing, and if you master not dying and build your character up nicely, i totally can see some updated patch or new mod, costing you your life and now you are back to square one LOL....
am i missing something? whats the benefit of this game if all you are doing is looking for food and water for the most part?

kill other people and take their shit. the end.
It's a survival game, part of the DayZ/Rust/7DaystoDie/Don'tStarve genre.
There's a hint at the entire point of the game in the genre...It's....It's to survive. Are you surviving? You're winning at endgame!
Have you died? You've failed, return to part 1 and attempt to survive. Congratulations, you've grasped a simple concept!
It isn't an RPG, it's more a zombie apocalypse dickbag simulator.

H1Z1 has different server types,
Battle Royale has an end - coincidentally the end is surviving. I'm not sure how well it's implemented yet on H1Z1, but in Arma this is how battle Royale works
- match starts with 60 people, last one alive wins
- it's a free for all
- after so long the playable field closes up and you have to stay in that area or die because you are out of bounds ... this happens more than once, each time the circular playing field gets smaller and smaller, which means less and less hiding spots.
- match continues until one person is left alive. ie Survived!!! Winner, game over.
Battle Royal is why I bought H1Z1 - By having this feature, it told me that SOE was going to be open to more than just open world survival, then as I browsed the game servers, I see they are much more than open world survival. I haven't dabbled in it much yet because I'm still getting used to the game.
They have PVP, PVE, Battle Royal

I would like to see them add a factions server. A factions server has non typical factions. Players are still on a free for all format, the factions are factions of zombies, so it would be zombies vs zombies .... possibly more than 2 zombie factions. At any rate players would get to control up to 5 minion zombies are the faction they have rep with
I would like to see an objectives server, where the players escort a stranded village of 200 to safety, keep survival the focus, but give more incentive for teamwork and some incentive to stab each other in the back.
I would like to see a 100% pure straight up pay to win Battle Royal server with leaderboards - I want to see who really is top dog when it comes to survival. - this would work in H1Z1 because the whales wouldn't want to play with the free loaders, but rather with people like themselves. Make the other servers pay to win irrelevant to keep the whales together.

What if i told you... there is no end game... Mind... blown...
On a more serious level you simply have to make your own endgame... Maybe your goal is to dominate the north east region of the map and for this you put together a crew of people and roam the lands... Or maybe you just want to see how many hours you can survive without looting anything(beyond food and water ofc.)... Or maybe the endgame for you will be to be the best zombie hunter in the game.
It is all up to you, the game will most likley never provide you with a endgame... and that is sort of the beauty.
For the most part life in H1Z1 will be a long string of gruesome and untimely deaths.
This have been a good conversation
Is it worth the 20$? Is that for a month or the full term of beta testing?
Endgame would be teaming up and fortifying a town or play area and defending it, I would imagine.
I mean wouldn't that give you the best chance of survival? Or go solo?
Governor.
Played:SWG(pre NGE/CU sucked)Yep its true, anyone who quit SWG because of the NGE/CU missed out on a much better combat system. DCUO, Fallen Earth, STO, The Secret World. Battlefield series. Planetside 2. Still playing SWG.
