A surprisingly good year for RPGs, wasn't it? :)

Yes but a wasteland for decent MMOs

I agree!   Had a ton of fun with all of those games and continue to do so :)

Shadows of Mordor is the best. The tactical approach to killing with well calculated blows rather than using a dps rotation is what I have wanted to see in mmorpgs. I can't stand mass bullet sponge dps rotation mechanics, give me the lethal calculated fighting mechanics as shown in Shadows of Mordor. If you don't know what I mean, go play the game, it's much more satisfying to line up a well thought out lethal blow then to press the same rotation over and over.

Transitor in a list for best RPG? Bit suss that.

The RPG part was easy, was a tie between Dragon Age and Shadow of Mordor for me, but I chose DA due to it having more of that RPG feel.

MMO wise, I didn't want to pick any of them because most either sucked outright all year like GW2(I would give it to it NOW if the last week was in 2014, lol but it wasn't.  I see it being the 2015 MMO of the year if the expansion launches this year, but anyway) and the 2 newbies.

I almost gave it to WoW as I really enjoyed the expansion, till endgame at least, but then I remembered they only gave me the expack in the last 2 months of the year and gave me NOTHING for the other 10 months all while charging a monthly sub.  Bastards.

So I settled with FFXIV as that's the only game I really came back to more than once throughout the year as each of their content patches had something I wanted to try and also earning that same monthly sub other games have the nerve to charge.

Voted Divinity: Origional Sin as that was my favourite rpg from last year that and Wasteland 2, Dragon Age comes in a close thrid. Sahdow of Mordor was fun for a bit but the combat got a bit boring in the end.. Had the same feeling with the batman games but a lot worse with those hehe.

I did not vote on the MMORRPG as nothing in that list is any good.

DA Inquisition and ESO, hands down.
  • Alber_gamerAlber_gamer Member UncommonPosts: 588

For me Divinity and WoW, with no real contenders.

There is DA:I as "contender" for Divinity but the game is glitchy and bugged as hell in its PC version even after a couple of major patches, that besides being a dumbed down version of what the game could really be, only to please the brainless console masses and their 8 button pads. Plus, strictly speaking of RPG, Divinity is infinitely more RPG than DA:I. DA:I is gorgeous, and its voice overs are wonderful. That's it.

In the MMO department... yeah, nothing can really rival WoW from even afar, and it's been 10 years now. I wanted to vote Wildstar, but it fell short in many aspects. Better luck next decade I guess.

My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.

That's why I voted for the Stick of Truth image

DAI Won my vote for RPG because it was the only one on the list and I am still playing. Shadow of Mordor was a great game as well but I didn't think it was as good as DAI. Vote for ESO for MMO because it is also the only game on the list I am still playing. I would never vote for WoW because it is just old and doesn't give enough for the $15 sub anymore. FF XIV I played for 30 days. got to max level in 2 weeks and felt bored so that was a waste. Wildstar was fun but felt to much like wow to me.

I would never have predicted Archeage and Wildstar to be at the bottom if you had asked me to rank them last year before they were released.  Such great game concepts with such poor design and direction.  Makes me sad when I think about what those games could have been.

Had some trouble voting for the MMOs. For me it was a 3 way tie of voting for the lesser of evils. Then again I just haven't been impressed with MMOs sandbox or themepark. In the end I voted for FFXIV for substance and quality and effort (even if I don't completely like the direction of the game). Yoshi-P and company have definitely put forth the best effort. Runners up were GW2 and ESO by default just because they have aspects "right?" few as they are that FFXIV doesn't IMO.

Had no trouble with the RPG section. It wasn't even a close contest. And even though I know opinions are like assholes, and everyone is entitled to their (wrong) opinion. I voted for Dark Souls 2. In my mind, the rest of the RPG list was a joke with the exception of Divinity. Which even though doesn't hold a candle to Dark Souls series, at least it belonged on the list. And I am sorry, but I just absolutely hate Dragon Age and Diablo. But according to the poll, Im the odd one? Well as long as I keep getting Souls-type RPGs, Ill be happy. And congrats to the winners.

Dragon Age better then Shadow of Mordor? I hope you're joking.

Wildstar got my vote np, people might hate it but I still think its the best MMORPG out there atm.
  • grimalgrimal Member UncommonPosts: 2,935
Actually surprised Wildstar was higher than AA from the community here.

DA:I and ESO get my votes.
  • AmjocoAmjoco Member UncommonPosts: 4,860
DA:I was decent but not worth the hype to me.  Played the heck out of most of the mmo's on the list but voted for ESO due to the fact that it is changing in a positive direction. WoW was fun with the garrisons, and GW2 has become my game to play when I get bored of everything else. Overall, I thought it was a fun year!  Hats off to Rift and WS for putting the squeeze on AA so far. I'm not sure how that is happening, but lets see what happens after a couple days!

My vote would have to go to Divinity:OS, as well as ESO.

it was a decent year for rpgs, but it was an awful year for gaming in general compared to previous years IMO. Lots of broken releases on PC, and lack of releases for new gen consoles (plus some broken ones too)

Either Divinity and Transistor were going to be my choices for sure but i didnt play any of them so i had to choose Dark Souls 2.

As for the mmos, the lack of WASD in Marvel Heroes was an instant NO from me so it was between Draenor and GW2 (went with GW2).

In order for me to properly vote I will have to try all of these titles.. Kindly IM me an access key for every one of them.

This poll is not very scientific otherwise.
