I don't understand this at all. WASD is very very popular among mmorpg players. Why alienate a huge portion of your potential player base? This makes no sense and yes a very Big mistake. I just don't understand what this company is thinking. Sure some people don't mind but I'm telling you they just missed out on a ton of money. Yes a TON..

When I was watching live streams people kept mentioning a tablet version of the game, wouldn't that be probably the primary reason they wouldn't include WASD movement, to basically make it balanced between PC and Tablet?

A PC game that you can also play on a smart phone? Talk about failure from the get go.

That's before you even get to mouse click only movement and snorefest combat.

I play the game because it's fun.   Although I would like WASD, its more about the game play itself for me.

I've already played it in alpha and it played just fine without WASD.

That said, I'd definitely welcome WASD keys on the PC version.

To me personally, controls are a big part of gameplay. There are two types of audiences, the ones who are OK with point and click, and the ones who dont use point and click for any reaason (personal preference, hand problems, etc).

With that said, no WASD = no game for me. I still hope they are successful because that means a possible WASD implementation in the future, or even a console port (which i would totally buy due to the controls).

EDIT: i agree with you that i play games because they are fun. And for me, point and click only kills the fun out of the games.

Reading this thread makes me think I may have inadvertently stumbled through time and landed in a WISH forum.

I don't need WASD, but I like to have the option.  A good reason to add it is to help with the combat issue, which devs keep returning to.  Moving with WASD, while timing attacks and direction with the mouse, would really add a visceral element to combat for example Das Tal's combat system.  A second reason is random clicks on loot trails that you don't want.  A third reason is pathing getting stuck on terrain as you are trying to move. I've been playing Albion for the last three tests.

EDIT: Torchlight 1, Diablo 1, and Diablo 3 are on consoles and use a gamepad. I highly doubt programming WASD movement on a PC game is any more difficult than programming gamepad controls.

There you go, and thanks for explaining that to all the point and clickers that don't understand why this game could and should be WASD as well.   Their lead developer has tunnel vision.

boohooo, the devs dont do as i ask em to do!

maybe because it's THEIR fucking game?
uh, and in what way is wasd more exact than mouse? both is quite analog.

Basically by not having WASD this game is doomed. Wonder why no hype, wonder why no one cares.... it's because no wasd.
Why does runescape a 14 year old game have hundred of thousand people logging in on a daily basis then?

What is this? Call of duty? Reading the other comments, Runescape was another game that didn't have WASD movement.

With over 20,000 players in the last Alpha test, I think you might be in the minority.

If it weren't for Sword Coast Legends to occupy some of my time since the end of Summer Alpha, I might have lost my mind waiting for Albion's Closed Beta.

Played: E&B, SWG, Eve, WoW, COH, WAR, POTBS, AOC, LOTRO, AUTO.A, AO, FE, TR, WWII, MWO, TSW, SWTOR, GW2, NWO, WoP, RUST, LIF, SOA, MORTAL, DFUW, AA, TF, PFO, ALBO, and many many others....

I thought we were past the mouse click for movement, I differently hate using it but if the game is great in all other areas, I will play it and adjust to playing it that way.

@Battlerock The best games I had played don't have wasd and are top-down... It's all about different game's choices

Would be nice to have WASD, but honestly having a Razer Naga type mouse I dont have a problem with click to move.
  • StarIStarI Member UncommonPosts: 987
wasd in this game wouldn't really change anything accept probably be wierd and unintuitive to use and put those nabs desperatly forcing themselves to use it at disadvantage.
  • BrenicsBrenics Member RarePosts: 1,939
I will have to try it out, last time I played a game click and move was Lineage 2 and you get use to the controls like any game. But I do prefer WASD!

Because LoL, DOTA and the Diablo series are all such massive failures without WASD.

Firstly you cant compare LoL DOTA or any MOBA. Even Diablo is not even in the same genre as Albion Online.

Despite what you or anyone else thinks not having WASD is limiting the player base of this game and shouldn't be denied that it would be a much larger success if it had it.

You can't have WASD controls in a isometric view game it would be a shambles hence the reason you don't see it in any of the games i mentioned.

I could see controller use being viable but not WASD.

And yes if you look at the gameplay of AO the controls are very similair to MOBA games

With the massively popular and widely played games like LoL and Diablo it's pretty clear that not having wasd hardly makes a dent in the popularity of your game, and that there are other much more important factors that will be more deciding.
