In search of specific LookingForMMORPG advice

GardavsshadeGardavsshade Member UncommonPosts: 907

I am looking for some very specific advice from MMORPG Players and I would appreciate any relevant information you wish to pass along either as a post or a private PM.

I wish I could try all the games that hold the MMO title out there to find the one I want but honestly I ain't getting any younger and I hope someone here will steer me in the direction I have been seeking.

I will also state that I expect the only Players that can answer my questions will have had to have played MMORPGs for many years going back to around 2003 or earlier.

I seek a MMORPG that meets the following criteria AND I need recommendations for what specific Server of that MMORPG suggested fits my list of preferences:

1.) Is both Group and Solo Playable, the more of a balanced mix, the better.

2.) Is a Western MMORPG, specifically North American or European in origin / company headquarters location and in where the Servers are located. English Speaking.

3.) A MMORPG that would most likely be called a "traditional" MMORPG... not a MOBA, not a SinglePlayerRPG, or other games that might be referred to as a MMO now.

4.) That has a mix of both PvE and PvP with at least some areas devoted to PvE and that PvP is restricted from those PvE areas.

5.) That has formal Faction warfare PvP with preset Factions, not a MMORPG with just Player made Factions or just a free for all.

and most importantly... and this is the tricky part....

6.) A MMORPG that has a Player Community as similar to MMORPG Player communities of 2000-2005 as possible. It's not going to be as it was then, I know that, I am just seeking a Player Community as close as I can get to the old ones some of us miss.

7.) AND after all that... I really need advice on which specific Server of the MMORPG suggested would best fit my preferences. MMORPG Servers come in all flavors and varieties. I really need recommendations of which server best fits my list.

What a List... Yes I know... but this post isn't a joke or a troll, I am seriously asking for advice on this.

And in the spirit of fun and frolic that is the hallmark of the MMORPG genre, I will not take offense to offbeat or otherwise off topic remarks or friendly jabs and taunts. I will sift through the posts to glean the gold from it, the rest is party favors.

In advance I thank you for your participation and I look forward to your comments and advice. :)

Do you want tab target combat or more action based?

    Looking for ROLEPLAYING?

    FPS?

    Turnbased?

    NPC Quests?

    Old School?

    I currently run www.clashofdreams.com

OLD School MMORPG.  REAL roleplaying, like tabletop style.  FPS type fighting.  NPCs but NO NPC quests...  Factions that are taken control of by players, not "guilds" created by players.

If I understand your definition of faction PvP correctly, I can recommend several mmos of the themepark style that fulfill the first 5 items. But to fulfill the community requirement, what comes to mind is LOTRO, specifically on the NA RP server. LOTRO has probably the best and most consistent community of any mmo today, and the RP servers are the friendliest.

If I've missed the boat on your definition, please disregard. Good luck.

Pretty much all the games I can think of clash with some item on your list.

ESO: Is a Western MMO with Faction based PvP, but it almost certainly falls under the "SinglePlayerMMO" - which I'm assuming is where you put every MMO with voice acting and quests that can be soloed. =P

    Same deal with GW2.

You can't have your cake and eat it. Well, you might be able too - but you'll probably have to wait for Camelot: Unchained or go old school with DAoC.

Edit: With all the passive aggressiveness that usually goes on this site I totally misread your post! When you said Singpleplayer MMO you meant the kind with some multiplayer features I take it now lol. Well, then ESO and GW2 actually are options. With ESO you don't have to worry about servers. It's all continent based mega servers - just pick the one that matches where you live (US or EU). I think GW2 still has some specific (though linked) servers, but I'm not familiar enough with them to make a suggestion.

SWTOR fills all the requirements listed hands down.

Doesn't exist OP,i am that dude that has played hundreds of these games and checked out many i don't play.

The key criteria of both solo and grouping is the reason,it has not been since the days of FFXI that anyone groups these are all solo games. The ONLY grouping resides in repeating instances for some points or loot,it is not the actual game anymore just mini games to keep players coming back hook line and sinker.

I know this sounds far fetched but sadly is likely the truth. These new Zombie survival games are very much group oriented,if no group your likely dead more often than not.I watched many streams and the successful players also having fun are the ones that have their little groups or clans and they end up in a face off versus similar.

The problem of course is that these groups are real life friends ,not like any random PUG grouping.

There is a reason the phrase "Wow clone" came about,it is because every single game now caters to 100% soloing until end level, then groups begin that revolve around your gear.Weak gear you might get ignored maybe even flamed, you can thank Blizzard for such a childish immature design but that is what they do.

Back when i played FFXI or even back in the EQ1 days your gear was never an issue we just grouped and we played and had fun and chat inside the groups.I doubt i will ever witness that kind of gaming experience ever again.

    ^Also an option indeed.

    As for server suggestions:

US: The Ebon Hawk (RP-PvE server)

EU: The Red Eclipse (PvE server) or The Progenitor (RP-PvE server)

If your most important point is 6 with player community, then this here image

LotRO, and if you're US based, then Landroval server. More or less fits to points 1-5 too, it's western, old-fashioned (some would say wow-clone image) plenty of group content but with the option to solo (almost) everything, with "formal faction pvp" (but I'm not sure how active the creep side on Landroval, I'm there only for the events)

Point 4 is a bit out, since LotRO is the opposite of "with at least some areas devoted to PvE", the whole game is PvE, and pvp (PvMP to be precise) is only in an area devoted to that. But that area, Ettenmoors is pretty huge, with keeps and sieges, outposts, gathering nodes, NPCs and quests, a reputation system, and an own instance within the area for the challenge... so not just an instanced battleground :)
