^ Link to the earnings report. The game came in at 2.5 bln Won less than Daewoo forcasted. Only made 5.5 bln Won (around $5 million) for the quarter.

This is not a good look.

With how fast revenue and profits are dropping, they might not even bother going f2p.
  • PemminPemmin Member UncommonPosts: 623

getting ever closer to the 2mil mark.

As rough as it sounds, this is satisfying to watch.

The community has had it with the false promises, the intense WoW-copying  and the incopetense of many developers to deliver anything worthwhile, especially in an era when two guys and a laptop call themselves indie and produce gems.

    The genre is changing.

    1 WON =  .91 dollars

    5491

is still 5 million dollars for quarter 4...

GW2 by comparrsion made 17 million..

Edit: and the comapny made 184 million for the quarter... that is not bad

5 mil, is not a lot to keep the game updated as much there doing, if they don't change something soon NCsoft will do the same with wildstar they did with City of Heroes.

5 million divided by 3 time $15 comes out to the equivalent of 111,111 subscribers.  That's about what one would hope for, for a niche game.  Wonder how much they spent on development.

Don't forget box sales so can be less then that, you can be right if they didn't get any new players. But the cost to make the game, was maybe over 400 mil or even more.

I thought it was a safe assumption that box sales would be very very low.  Though I guess we can round down to an even 100,000 subscribers assuming roughly 8,000 new box sales.

Yeah if they keep doing down like that it can be bad news for them this year. If they don't find a way to keep the game stable on the player base side. As 5 mil is not a lot for them to keep the game running like that with out doing more lay off cutting down there team even more.

Everyone is forgetting CREDD sales @ $20 a pop - Subs are most likely @ 75k or lower.

Wildstar is a boring theme park I'm not surprised.

Always a shame to see this happen. Hopefully they don't shut the game down.

Have people lost their minds? 400 mil?

These games do not cost that much to r&d.

I maybe little over the top, eso was like 200mil, wildstar can be more or less. SWTOR was 500 mil, the more one add to a mmo as candy for people to drool over the more it cost.

I'm willing to bet that if they switched to F2P and put stuff in the shop that people actually want to buy (as opposed to just forcing them to repeatedly pay for access to the server) that they'd see their profits double, or even triple, rather rapidly. But whatever, subs are clearly the best model for MMOs as ESO and WS continue to prove.

Eso going b2p sub was not working the way they had planed.

Yes it was boring, linear, and generic themepark, and there was nothing hardcore in WS. People were on max level in couple of weeks from release. How is this hardcore?

Now, had they truly made WS a hardcore mmos as they promised and kept talking in public, this game might have had a chance. Action combat, dungeon finder, and cartoony art style were also mistakes if they targeted hardcore crowd.

Lesson to learn: Don't try to cater to everyone. Design your game for a certain group and stick with your design philosophy, and you may get players who keep subbing, playing, and enjoying your creation.

One more evidence that P2P, with the exceptions of WoW and FFXIV, cant stand in the market anymore. If huge IP's and higly cost to make games like SWTOR, ESO etc moved to a F2P/B2P model, then imho there is no space for a mmo with sub.

All Time Favorites: EQ1, WoW, EvE, GW1
    Playing Now: WoW, ESO, GW2

Couldn't be less true, not that long ago people were talking about how only WoW could command a sub, now suddenly it's WoW and FFXIV (Technically also EVE).  The subscription model is actually looking stronger than it was 3-4 years ago (if you've got a very high quality game).  Wildstar's issue run much deeper than just the subscription model.  Sure it will fare better f2p than as a sub, but they're still in trouble regardless of the model.

It's not that they hate their western customers. They just don't give a shit. They are ruthless as f*ck. That's business. They don't factor in goodwill.

Hardcore was the endgame part of it, where had to be this skill level to do this dungeon right, or not going raid anytime soon. If didn't have well turn players be to hard for a lot of people that are out there not at a skill level needed, there are some say was to easy other was to hard, but comes down too, can most people do the content with puling some hair out.

FF14 don't seem to be pushing it doors any longer, it may go free to play or buy to play how people losing interest in that grind, Had many people I know been playing FF14 over a year, getting bored with the grind. But who know this year.

Sadly, at this pace, Wildstar is more likely to be canceled entirely than even go F2P. I hate to say it, but its true. The game devs just can't appeal to a general population, and at this point if it tried to go F2P, it would likely still struggle..

I m having 3 accounts on EvE and never payed a sub.

Btw can you tell me about those very highly quality games? I dont know any AAA sub only mmo's anymore, out of WoW & FFXIV. So there can be 2 things happening. Either there arent any high quality mmo's in the market or ppl doesnt like subs.

Did you forget that WS had terrible class balance, tons of bugs, super grindy end game, horrible itemization, updates that introduced even more bugs and patches that broke more things than they fixed?

To blame action combat or cartoony graphics for Wildstar's downfall is ridiculous.
