This bickering over what is an MMORPG and what is not is pointless.
Just stop.
No.
If the topic was pointless there would not be so much discussion. If you don't care for the topic find another spot on the forums to frolic.

Originally posted by Scot World of Tanks is a MMO? Hahahahahhaha. You made my day OP.
Don't give all the credit to the OP. This site, MMOFRONT, massively, reviewers all classify WoT as a MMO too.
While discussing the new Game List coming to mmorpg.com, Bill Murphy has already said WoT is not an MMO and that games like LoL will fall under a category called MOBA. Maybe everything isn't as rock solid as you'd like to hope, eh.
nah .. i will just modify my post to say .. most other websites like massively and mmofront, and reviewers consider WoT a MMO .. and this place (if it indeed changes) is the odd man out.
Before then, the gamelist of THIS site still agree that WoT is a MMO.
I don't mind WoT being on the site list, they just need a column to say it is a MOBA if that's what it is? Maybe we will get that column on the new forums.
be careful now, Scot.
The MOBA defender will argue that WoT is NOT a MOBA .. it is an instanced pvp game.
To me, just call all of them MMOs following mmorpg.com and other sites .. it is simpler. Call it "easy-mode" forum pvp.

Finally i agree with Cecropia!
Of course it is not pointless. It is one of the better game mode of forum pvp. Definition of MMO (and oh MMORPG), sandbox, debate about FFA pvp, death penalty, "easy-mode" gaming .. are all life blood of this forum.
Can you imagine one day without any of these stuff here?
I think I get it... if a lot of people play it, it makes tons of money and it can be played by 2 players online at the same time it's an MMO... all of that so we can say how well the industry is doing.
Hey, why isn't GTA 5 covered here? It's also an MMO.

may be it should. Certainly it will drive more traffic than talking about 15 years old games that are not going to be remade.

Well like you, I don't have an inflated nostalgic reverence for the old ones - they were just our first but not even close to the best.
But unlike you, I still think there are True MMORPGs (TMMOs?) and MOs pretending the first M doesn't exist.

Hell has truly frozen over.
P.S. oh, I remember the time before we all argued about payment models and the very names of the genres we've been playing for many years. It wasn't exactly what I'd describe as the most intellectually stimulating corner of the internet, but I will say things have definitely taken a sharp turn towards the deep south. I remember it all started getting strange after LOTRO suddenly went F2P shortly after Turbine promised that it would not follow in the footsteps of the dying and then reborn DDO. I guess that was more Warner Bros' doing than Turbine's in all fairness.
Anyways, I'm going out now to explore this newly frozen hell.

I remember when nari agreed with me once, it was about three years ago. It does happen.
MMORPG gets a bashing for calling them all MMOs, it will get a bashing for labelling MOBA and so on. But I think the volume of ranting will be less and it is more informative so they should do it.

now we disagree again!
what "deep south"? This place is more interesting (to me) with all the discourse. Otherwise, there is little to talk about.

Haha, good post. I agree, get out of here you old school grandpa's! Virtual worlds are no fun. They lack instant action baby!...
Fun is subjective.
But certainly virtual worlds are no fun to me .. and probably a large number of gamers .. otherwise instanced lobby games won't be so popular.
I think it was just dulltards who were to lazy to write mmoRPGs who think that MMO only means mmoRPG. Yes, some people are that stupid.
