Too little, too late, and a whole lot of garbage in between.  GW2 was one of those games  that could have been so awesome, but the radical turn of development focus and vision, combined with a terribly unprofessional and lackluster management team have soured that milk for me.

I simply won't go back to support a team that views their community with such contempt, that treats their customers like children that need to be scolded and kept in line, and plows stubbornly, blindly along with their fascination with their not-so-Living Story.  Even if their design choices and shallow gameplay were 180'd to something sensical and more compelling, Chris, Mike, and the lot are still in place.  It's a disappointment that just doesn't need re-visiting.

    Absolutely getting the expansion.

It's an RPG, not call of duty. People have forgotten to how to enjoy MMOs, nothing but buzzkill forums for every game. GW rules, but everyone is entitled to their opinion I suppose.

It will depend on the timing for me...if I am currently engrossed in another MMO I am not going to stop playing in order to play GW2's expansion right at launch, although I will definitely purchase it at some point. I really like GW2 but quit after leveling four 80's and getting bored with the grind. I quit right after they stopped having the 2-week content updates. Those were great and broke up the monotonous Ascended weapon grinding, but once they stopped coming out it got boring. And then ESO and Wildstar came out, which kept me entertained for a few months...then there was ArcheAge and currently I am really enjoying the SWTOR Revan expansion. So hopefully NCSoft is smart and releases the xpac when there is nothing else new coming out to maximize the returning player base. The other MMOs I am instersted in (Crowfall, Skyforge, EQNext and Black Desert) aren't coming out this year (except for maybe Skyforge) and I am guessing the xpac will release around the Holiday Season, so it should be perfect timing....

How could anyone be engrossed in any "mmo" thats out now, is beyond me.

    engine and art is bananas.

But, I don't feel like my character is that different from any other, or that useful or unique or anything really. Nothing has any value. I don't feel like I can excel beyond skins in GW2. It is so frustrating and such a  waste of said engine and art.

yea they seriously need to cut their losses with that living story garbage, all of those resources could have made this game..... ugh gonna go cry

Doubt I will be trying it. I liked a lot of the game presentation but it has serious fatal flaws IMO. I hate the way the "no trinity" worked out. I know people like it and I think it was a valiant effort but really don't like how MMO combat devolves into a zergfest DPS race without more specific roles. I also don't like the lack of itemization. Again, valiant effort to get people off the gear treadmill and introduce more equity in PvP but it really tanks the sense of progression IMO. I also thought the AvA was very zergy and boring (probably at least partly due to no trinity).

This is going to be a fun thread to read.

I'm sure it will be full of sunshine, rainbows and unicorns.

Looks like your prediction came true, unfortunately. Well, maybe it should read "fortunately" because of the entertainment value <grin>

I was thinking of buying it but then I saw a gameplay footage of expansion on some youtube channel which didn't look even remotely interesting. But, what really dissapointed me were the hints that the new Stronghold battleground will again be 5v5 only. I'll most likely pass on this xpac.

I won't be coming back. I am very disappointed with the bland character progression which makes me wonder why there are even 80 levels. It is as if they spread 20 levels of character progression over 80 levels.  I also don't like the weapon based skills anymore. It just feels too restrictive. I was also expecting more variety in builds and more important, that they would also needed in PVE and not just PVP. I've grown to really hate the AOE zerg builds.

The combat at first seemed very interesting to me, I also think that it is interesting for sPVP. But for the majority of PVE and WvWvW it is just wasted, because it comes down to zerg zerg zerg. I also think the dodging is too limited. I am not a fan of most hybrid forms of combat. I prefer twitchbased combat, but can enjoy tab based too in MMO's. GW2 combat (for me) holds some awkward middle ground.

Then the achievement bars. Everything in the game is a bloody achievement bar. It is as if they used Steam achievements as example. Quests in this MMO have been replaced by achievement bars:/

Anyway, to me it feels as if 3 different development teams have worked on this game, each with their own vision and the current implementation having nothing to do with the manifest anymore.

Because of GW2, Arenanet became just another mainstream MMO developer to me. Meh.

I will miss the game's looks and its awesome animations though.

not coming back either.  This game is a massive colossal bore.  I've tried to play it numerous times and have always lost interest.  The 'heart' quests are incredibly lame and the dynamic events are only fun if you happen to be in the right place at the right time.  I was always underleveled in this game as i don't craft and have no interest in doing so.  The classes aren't interesting and there's no character development really.  Really just about everything about this game is boring.

The game has no monthly fee and i don't even play it now.

As of right now I will not be coming back.  I started ESO and enjoying that currently.

I would need a big change in PvP to come back. The new mode sounds good but having a fully fleshed out PvP area with team deathmatch, FFA and other modes would really help.

Dungeons also need some love. A lot of it can be cheesed.

  • FaelsunFaelsun Member UncommonPosts: 501
No because as soon as they got out of Beta testing and into release, they betrayed every one of us wanting the Esport pvp they promised. PVP was and probably still is a dps zerg, pvp maps were crappy, RVR was horrible. World of Dyecraft.

Ye, ESO is so superior in that area *chuckle*

Come back for what? Did they put the trinity back in? Did they put any meaningful goals at endgame?

The game does expand, but all the reasons that got us leaving in the first place, will still be there.

Expansions in games are quantity changes. People that leave want quality changes, most of the time.

I'm not sure if I said anything prior, but my recent playing of GW2 has cemented my decision that I will definitely be picking it up.

I'm sure there is a significant portion of people that play MMORPGs as they play other games: finish the storyline and move on.

    Those will come back.

    Currently playing: GW2
Going cardboard starter kit: Ticket to ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, Dominion, 7 Wonders

You can't put back in what wasn't there to begin with... it was a selling point remember... no trinity.

There's plenty to do in the game... it just doesn't revolve around the concept of endgame.  You want endgame, you look for it in another game, simple as that.

This game never marketed itself in any way or form to be the game you are seeking.  You can't blame the game, you can only blame yourself.

I realllllly could not get into my leveling story. Why do game devs think they are professional writers?

Hmm, you guys are trying to get us back to the game and the best thing you got is that "it's my fault" for giving a playstyle i wasn't fond of in the first place, a try? Thank you for proving my point, that the expansion is just a quantity change, more of the exact same thing. But i will suggest you guys open up a new, less ultra-optimistic,  thread than this, something like "anyone coming back for the xpack?". That would be more honest, given that you barely had any positive answers so far.

Probably not, maxed out 2 characters when i played after launch, the first time around it was great, the second time around it felt like i had been there done that, and weapon skills felt restrictive.

Not to mention i just don't fancy non-trinity gameplay, the trinity is very much holy to me.

I'd probably still be playing if they had that.

Why on earth would you think that?

I for one would certainly prefer that people stay away if they disliked the game at release. The expansion is made for those of us who likes the game - Not to turn it into something it was never supposed to be!

OFC it will not be for people who craves trinity/gear progression and whatnot. This thread seems rather pointless.

We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!
