1. raids (should be one of MANY end-game routes for people to keep playing)
2. more realistic character models (based off of EQ & EQ2 rather than WoW)
3. complex playstyles with lots of options.
This and;
4. Non-Action Combat
5. Group focused play
6. Bring back the importance of Bards, Enchanters, and Clerics/Warriors/DPS(Mage/Wizard/Rogue), NOT the everyone can slaughter fest everything style of play.
7. Non-mandatory questing. I don't want to go back to NPC for my next quest, I'd rather just go to a different area, or just stay in the same spot and grind valuable exp with a group of people and shoot the shit. Nothing kills immersion like having to, OH GOTTA GO UPDATE QUEST. Dailies are lame, and kills everything for me.
8. Games should only have long drawn out EPIC quests, for that Great Sword of Slaughter that hardly anyone else has. Same goes for maybe armor quests.
Well, Colombus Nova is an investment company. Investment companies priority is to make money. They want a lot of money back for putting hopefully not so much money in.
Now, what that means to mmos is that if you look at todays market and serveral years back, pretty much ALL mmos are very, very easy. Actually, I'm gonna be bold to say that it's almost impossible to die unless you maybe leave your computer and go cook for a while, and, that's while you were already in combat. You may actually still be alive when you return.
So, I guess my question is going to be:
- Will EQnext be challenging? Compare it to how EQ1 and EQ2 was at release. Or, will EQN be like the ridiculously easy games that EQ1 and EQ2 are today?
I could save me some money (or not) if I knew the answer to that!
(I think that I pretty much know the answer already. Money talks, and a easier game interests a majority of players. That's fact! Right?)
I want EQN to be an EQ game more than EQ2 was/is. I want sandboxy exploration, sandboxy questing, a sandboxy leveling experience and immersion a lot more than I want to freaking play with blocks, honestly. It was alright when it was announced, but I'm losing interest in that fad and would just rather play a classic, modable voxel-based game rather than get new ones.
But the more you use the word "sandbox" in a non-cash-shop-dominated game, the less generic investors such as Daybreak Games' owner care and would much rather axe the project than to create a low profit niche. It's understandable, sad, and the reason why good sandbox MMOs are almost exclusively really old or very rare. They wet themselves at the idea of having rights on a low-cost high-return crap mobile game where people actually pay for lives or retries rather than making a big epic project. This is the gaming business now.
EQN will be another cluster F MMO ruined by corporate morons. Nothing to see here. It's Warhammer Online all over again. Br8ng on the Kickstarter projects. Camelot Unchained is my hope for a good PvP fantasy MMO.
Daybreak games says it's still very much alive, and Terry Michaels is one of the devs still leading the charge, so what do YOU want to see from EQ Next in 2015? What will affirm your faith in the studio after its layoffs and convince you that EQN is on track?
Personally, and I talked a bit about last week, all I really want is more details and more gameplay video. If Landmark is the testbed for what EQN is to become, than I think we're more than ready to see the game in action as the devs are making it. Enough "we're transparent" talk without really showing anything. Give us classes, mechanics, dungeons, lore, and races. Give us how the rallying calls will play out, and more than just a quick "sort of" video at SOE Live.
If Daybreak is to continue the transparent style of SOE, then there's no better game to show that approach than EQ Next. We've heard plenty of talk, and the ideas behind the game are fantastic... but let's see some meat on those bones. Let's see if EQN is one of the main reasons Columbus Nova would buy SOE, and don't make it just another teeny update either.
What about you, what would ease your worries about EQN under Daybreak Games?
They would need to tell you the truth from the start to make an informed decision on what one wants in a game that is not coming anytime soon.
"The King and the Pawn return to the same box at the end of the game"
Originally posted by Murashu I'd love to see some dungeons and combat videos and less talk about how great its going to be. The action combat has me worried more than anything. I'm hoping for a true spiritual successor to Everquest/Vanguard and not GW2 with EQ lore.
Where on earth have you been hiding? Any idea of the game you hope for was dashed ages ago on the SOE reveal... I don't understand how you can still hope unless you never saw of the vids?
They said 2015 is the year of EQN, their focus will be very heave on the game. I just want to see that in hard cold detail about the game. I get storybricks and voxels but I want to know what the core gameplay will be about.
Originally posted by HighMarshal I would love to see them explain how they are going to handle the lore in the game now that they have fired the guy who wrote the lore.

I’d been back for about two-and-a-half years following 38 Studios’ collapse, and they were very kind to offer me a position on Landmark and EverQuest Next. I had a great time and worked with fantastic people, and I’m sad to see that come to an end. But the thing about this business is that the connections you make last a lifetime.
Jobs come and go. Some are terrific; others less so. But relationships endure. No matter what line of work you do, if you work hard and support those around you, good things will come your way. It’s proven true across the various careers I’ve had.
I poured my heart into the story for EQN, just as I did for Amalur before it. Norrath is in good hands, and I can’t wait to see what Daybreak achieves.

On track for what? The new Overlords have bought, axed, and assimilated their newest acquisition for, what we assume to be multiples of millions of dollars. Each day that goes by, the entire studio is taking additional $$ from their wallets for salaries and general costs, without giving anything back. EQN has been wallowing around for years now, so the Overlords will want to either:
a) Quickly get it into a launchable state, or at least a playable state with soul-leeching enticers to make you pay early and pay a lot for early access packages. Money, and as early as possible, so their investment doesn't continue to be a liability.
b) Get it ready for re-sale. If that's the case, then there would be a very strict set of goals and timelines to polish up EQN into a presentable state for an actual gaming company (not an investment company) to purchase.
No one on the outside knows what the intent of the new Overlords are at this point. It would be absurd for the PR team to release any news aside from the sunshine and lollipops propaganda they've been feeding the community since the acquisition. In other words, don't expect to hear anything other than, "We love our new Overlords".
I think the hopes and dreams of the community simply cannot come into play at this point. It's just not possible. Daybreak is a busy, busy place since the acquisition. Accommodating community whim and demand isn't even on their radar.

You spew hate for SoE before they become DGC or laid people off. How this impacts you I have no clue.

I get that you like to defend your favorite studio and have adhered to your loyalties. However, if you have something relevant to say, or contribute to the discussion in a sensical and meaningful way, then we're all ears. Your comment is disproportionate and off-track. There is nothing hateful in my comment, merely a basic analysis rooted in common sense.
Oh, and I have had an investment in SOE, err, Daybreak since 2000. It's only until fairly recently that I jumped ship after seeing the course of disaster Dave and Smed have been sharply steering it on. If their mismanagement hadn't fostered the mess it became, I would be gladly forking over the subscription fee to keep playing EQ2. I simply refused to stop financially supporting Dave and Smed's rambling, gouging, highly monetized vision and took my money elsewhere.
So, with new owner's and without Dave's influence, something might be salvaged yet of this buyout. EQN is still not going to be the spiritual successor to the EQ line, but it will be pumped out to the public in a form that will get the investors a return on their investment.

Here's what I think:
I don't know what the fuck to think anymore.
On the one hand there's many indications EQN may never see the light of day.
On the other hand we have multiple devs trying to alleviate our concerns.
I'm DONE with thinking about what can, will, or might happen with EQN.
I want it to be released when its ready.. no need to rush it.. still some more info would always be nice.
They would need to tell you the truth from the start to make an informed decision on what one wants in a game that is not coming anytime soon.
To change the title to EverQuest 3.
Where on earth have you been hiding? Any idea of the game you hope for was dashed ages ago on the SOE reveal... I don't understand how you can still hope unless you never saw of the vids?
As long as the funding mechanism of this game is through the f2p motif it will be a POS!
Me and many other people will NOT fund a game through the cash shop ever again. Good gameplay and a required cash shop cannot coexist.

This point in production, if they gave us a date, it would most likely be wrong.
