Pantheon releases new video with gfx update

Video is short, but deserves it's own thread.  It really looked that good.  If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend checking it out.  Seems the team is still plugging along with the developers working pro bono.  Its not hard to tell this is a project of passion.

As for the video, they explain that they've updated Unity's rendering to improve quality of foliage, trees and terrain.  They've also improved textures and lighting.  They've begun developing cultural and environmental assets for the Elven race.

Big step in the right direction.  Wouldn't be surprised if a few more videos like this attract some potential investors.

    Thanks Dullahan, the team has been working like crazy lately and I am so glad we are able to now start showing some of that hard work off.

    We still have a long way to go but it is now getting to a stage where supporters can see good quality visual updates from our last videos.

    I cannot wait to show off more areas and more improvements!

    It's only going to get better from here and you are spot on about the passion comment, we are all gamers from the EQ/VG era and we want this made more than you guys and girls! So we are putting everything we have into getting it done and done properly.

    I am glad everyone is liking this latest update, it means a lot to us all on the team to see such positive reactions :)

    I was getting the same EQ1 vibes as well.

    Definitely worth a watch for anyone interested in the project. The new graphics look great.

    Doesn't Unity 5 help solve some of the render quality deficiency's of 4?  Seems like you did ALLOT of work on lighting and rendering on your own.

    Looks great guys, keep up the good work.

    The scale of the environments is giving me EQ1 vibes as well.  It looks like a real, living world.  And the new area has a great atmosphere.

    Great update.  The improved visuals, UI, and NPC movements is impressive.  I noticed some updated environmental sound effects - were those recently added?

     

    I also like the narration in the video of what was worked on and how it was improved from the previous release.  I hope future updates have the narration as well (unless it was truly meant to be only a game trailer).

    We are very excited with how things are going with Pantheon and we should have another video out within a couple of weeks with a bit more action in it.

    The team have been flat out working on the game and the engine and we are really happy with the progress, it is also exciting making the move to Unity 5 over the next few months, so look out for more great updates in the near future ;)

    Hey Raidan - yep, I finished a little bit of new music for the video, as well as a few environment tracks for Faerthale Forest.

    I had responded to your question/point about the forest in the No updates for 2 months thread  - the Elven Forest had yet to be optimized.  Kilsin had explained it on the Pantheonrotf forums.

However, during the optimization process and getting the scene ready for Client/Server, the directional light got bumped up in brightness about 3x normal, and so the map was completely washed out.

     

    Since we still wanted to show the area, I opted to take the footage from a localhost build of the scene myself, which was completely un-optimized, unfortunately.

    I honestly didn't think it was going to be that good...but you totally sold me with the quality of your work.

    Ever since EQN went tits up I've been mourning the death of the MMO genre....

    The graphics are coming together EXTREMELY well compared to a previous update I saw which looked almost like Vanguard graphics to me in a 2015 game. These graphics look like a MODERN MMO and I am really looking forward to seeing more as I am thinking this game could end up being a real gem! image

    Creating a realistic environment hasn't been out of anyone's reach... creating a realistic environment where your character doesn't look like a mannequin within it has been.  There should be a balance between the two, which is why stylized is often easier to achieve.

     

    I know it's early in the development, but unless the characters reach the same level of fidelity, they will never be a part of their environment.
