If you go the the Crowfall website and watch one of the vids about the Devs. These guys have years of experience and pushed it the way they did to keep their vision. They've invested much of their time and money to get this off the ground in the first place and mention the sacrifices their family had to make.
Doesn't sound like my sort of game but their KS is up now. I've been watching the numbers grow. They aren't asking for much but that may be because they already have some videos of gameplay. It's already 1/8th there, this looks like it could fund and then some...
This is only the first pledge they will run through kickstarter... there is undoubtedly going to be more. In other words, they need a hell of a lot more money that $800,000 to make this game.
Holy CRAP! 100 dollars to access Alpha3! Are you people freaking high? $5000 for preAlpha access. I will wait till it crashes and burns and pick it up on Steam for 25 Bucks.
Originally posted by Kazara Crowfall has already raised $176k+ in 1 1/2 hours. At this rate, I wonder if the devs will think if they asked for too little.
I should hope they asked for what they need for the first phase and not a penny more... because there will be many more phases to come.

Although this is not the type of game I would play, I do wish much success for Crowfall. It will be interesting to see what kind of stretch goals the devs have planned if (more like when) the goal of $800k is surpassed.

Yeah, they've come out the gate pretty strong. Best of luck to them and their fans!

Does not seem that many people have learned their lesson yet, not to waste money funding these games. I have yet to see one of them come close to what was originally proposed. They all seem like a huge scam. If you want favored status in many of these nebulous games you have to mortgage your house to pay for it.
This might be a game I might try when it is released, but I certainly won't advance them a dime until it is.

Because the average person is terrible with money, has zero imagination and is typically a cock eyed optimist. Why do you guys care how others spend their own money? Its none of your business.
Its all well and good to say that until something personally effects you on a moral or ethical level.

To be fair, more people spend more money on lottery cards and never get anything at all out of them. There are certainly worse ways to spend your money. Also, to most adults with decent jobs, $50 or even a few hundred isn't much to be spending on entertainment.
However, I also understand your point. So far, we have not seen a Kickstarter MMORPG that provides any sort of confidence ,beyond words and pretty pictures, that a quality product will be delivered.
While I do not donate money to any type crowd funding campaign, I can't fault others that decide to do so. I could only wish that an MMORPG would be offered to get me excited enough to pry my wallet open. For those of you that are interested enough to donate, I hope the game delivers for you. I think most folks know that any campaign donation comes with a risk, and they are willing to take it.

Not true at all. People's terrible spending habits is arguably why the MMORPG genre is in the state it is in now. So peoples stupidity in how they handle their money is directly impacting my enjoyment in once was a an innovative and daring genre of gaming.

If you could get virtually free money, with minimal, if any, strings attached...why in the world would you want to go the publisher route?
because working under the umbrella of a company that is supporting you is way less risky for all parties involved.
But working with actual investors also adds much more pressure to deliver monetary results, usually at the cost of achieving the developer's vision.
if they don't deliver monetary results they are going to fail whether or not the funded on KS. if they have such 'great ideas' why would actual investors feel the need to change their vision?
To appeal to a broader audience obviously... Then follows dumbing down and general wow-ification !

Well their argument is that they can cut out the middle man and save all the profits for themselves.
Here is the problem i have....
When in the past you HAD to lure a publisher or some big investors, you had to have a near complete prototype to CONVINCE people. Now in this new era, they don't have to produce anything, maybe some screenshots a scripted video, but no actual game for anyone to see.
Another thing is that developing for a publisher or investor, you HAD to incur some risk, like losing your shirt for example. With kick starters and free hand outs, there is literally ZERO risk, you can just promise the world and deliver nothing,at worse case scenario, you had free money to fund a living making games.
What i would have liked to see is NOBODY supports these one way street gimmicks, instead if you feel so confident in your product, offer up shares,at least then supporters have a REAL interest in a game rather than mild banter about how YOU are helping to mold the future of the game,ya a nice speech nothing more.Bottom line is i don't like free rides, you should not get free money then turn around and try to gouge more from the people who made you a living and made your game possible.

I couldn't help notice this: "It's like Game of Thrones meets Eve Online"
Seems like it was a perfect chance to say: "It's like game of thrones had a wedding with Eve Online!"
