Yeah bored at work so throwing another poll
This one is for best music (NOT sound effects) in a mmorpg this includes loading music, city music, well basically music.
So here are some choices.
Comments
I voted for eve online because it has the best music in any mmorpg
Horizons comes a close second for having great music too!
Everquest 2 is 3rd because it's great music but just not as good for the atmosphere that eve online is
Godz of War I call Thee
Hehe, by this reasoning best music is in saga or ryzom lol, it has a built-in mp3 player for background music. SoR has good music but there ain't too much of it. Eve's music did not catch on for me at all. Soundtrack had only 1 nice track. But that is just matter of taste.
I can't really answer to this poll as I haven't played all these games. Unless, this is just matter of selecting your favorite game
Phantasy Star Online
The reason I play it is because of the music which really draws you in. It makes everything come alive. No other game has music like that....
Another game that has original music are the .hack games (though not MMORPG) its amazing. Star Ocean 3 as well has great music and so does UT2004. Ragnarok Online had unusual music, which was different and nice.
To me, nothing beats Phantasy Star Online Music from all episodes.
There is great merit in this statement!

EQ2, not only this music amaizing by itself, you can also load your own MP3s.
Any MMORPG out there that has either .WAV, .MP3 or .OGG or any recognizable sound format, sa long it is the same in the game.....
you can take any MP3, rename it to the exact same name and put it in the folder, overriding the old.
When the map calls up for a song, it will look for the song in the name.
Example...
Entering a zone plays Death.MP3
However you think Dragula, by rob zombie would sound cool in that zone.
You take Dragula.MP3 and rename it to Death.MP3 and put it in the same folder and replace the old (or copy the old into a backup folder and put in the new one)
When the map loads, part of the map file will say "Ok now I have to find Death.MP3" and it will look for the track with the same exact name and it will play that track, it can be anything as long as the song name is Death.MP3
Make sure the sound format is the exact same.

See, In Phantasy Star Online. I own the sound tracks where I took the Wav Files and turn them into high quality .OGG files. and replaced the ENTIRE FOLDER with Maximun quality .OGG tracks of the recordings.
This allows me to take surround sound or whatever and actually play HIGH QUALITY MUSIC, while every other MMORPG gives me these crummy 96 - 128kbps tracks. The music simply sounds better and IS better because the quality is so much greater. 64 - 96kbps is about the sound quality you will hear from listening to a track on an IPOD wearing a basic earphone.
There is a big difference between having good speakers and hearing 128kbps @ 21500hz and hearing a 500 - 1000kbps track @ 96khz
Sorry but most MMORPGs have good music, but bad quality. Studies show that more tha 90% of the people who listen to music, use an audio system that can only listen to 192kbps as maximun output when a TRUE wav track is 1440kbps.
A lot of the music of the last generation was very good, but people said it was bad because they people actually deevolved in sound and choose to get IPODs and walkmans/CDplayers that had crappy 128kbps headsets and chose to listen to MP3s the downloaded than actually buy the CD that gives you full quality music.
Musicians record in 24 bit sound to even 32 bit sound now with CDs being 16 bit 1440kbps @ 48 - 96khz, making a live performance better than a master tape since live you can see 24 - 32 bit sound.
I am disappointed with MMORPGs really reducing sound quality to match more of the 90% of speakers out there rather than give something decent.
Everytime I buy a game, I tend to look online for either a soundtrack or a download for the SAME music to the game, in the same files, but at HIGHER quality to get more of my game.
Try listening to ragnarok online music at 320kbps, instead of the crappy 96kbps tracks they have there. What a difference it makes!!!!!
In most of my favorite games, Ive managed to somehow get the same tracks at FAR BETTER QUALITY and I've always enjoyed games better. Trust me, Music is a strong factor in a game and that will keep you in front of the comp for HOURS.
I couldnt play certain MMORPGs for more than 2 hours a day, the music would get to me, then when I replaced the tracks with HIGHER QUALITY tracks, I couldnt stop playing. I would sit there for 8 to 10 hours playing the game. I could hear ALL lines of the music and have better division of the low, medium and high gains, rather than having them all meshed together, being thrown at you.
You forgot EVE... that gets my vote.
Edit: nevermind, didn't see the second poll.
notice none of the wow votes have backed their statements up.
*chuckle* fanbois...
Ok,
My Vote,
1)FFXI, Simply put one of the best soundtracks, and its extremely fitting to its world and the history of the game. Also its quality is very good, especially if you can extract it into winamp like I have. The downside of course is they used a different format and made it rather a pain to extract.
2) EQ2 imo runs a fairly close second, its a good soundtrack and its quite impressive at times. however There were numerous times where it just felt the music was out of place for the environment. Now listened to alone its a superb soundtrack.
3) WoW, The sound track is good, but not nearly on par with the other two. I cannot count the times I have been running somewhere the music kicked in and I thought. "wtf? thats wierd" Its a decent overall soundtrack, outside it sounds like some of it was ripped off from Lord of the Rings, I just felt its implementation in numerous locations were poor at best. It however sounds very good standalone.
Eve online, I am not going to rank this one as I have not played. The Music I have heard and it sounds Amazing. However without having heard it in the given environment I cannot honestly accuratly judge how fitting it is to the game. I rate the sound tracks based on how it implements in the game, since that is what it is for afterall, not simply based on how impressive the overall score is. For those stating Eve is one of the best, I have little doubt as the score is quite well done. I just cannot give it the rating myself as a result of I have not heard it ingame.
hands down, Horizons has the best MMO music, ever.
it's a shame the rest of the game is complete and utter crap.

Anarchy Online has amazing music.
You bundled Lineage I with Lineage II? What the hell?
Don't get me wrong, I love the game--it's probably still my favorite MMO--but the music in Lineage I is horrible. It's just 1 minute looping mp3's.
Lineage II, on the other hand, has the best music of any other MMO out there.

Okay, if you dont say that the EQ music isnt the best, there is something wrong.
I grew up with the theme to EQ, and it is hands down the best (and most addicting/annoying) game music of all time.
DAOC. The ballads in the zones were hypnotic. I have been off the game for a year and I still find myself having a DAOC song in my head. I also loved how the music changed ever so slightly with the tempo and a chorus change when you were winning or losing in combat.

I usually play with the sound off, but when I turn it on whilst playing SWG the immersion factor almost triples - for star wars fans they have the sound and music perfected.

Yes i have to agree .Of course many have not played it so would not know but have to say anyone who ever played it would say it too.

I voted for StarWars Galaxies.. I always like the sound of the Imperial March and The fighting music...
Im Amazed..... NOT!!!
Okay, I like the music in a few games, but here are my three favorites.
3. EQ. Most of it's music wasn't that great, but some of it I really loved.
2. SWG. What can you say? It has SW music. It fit very well with the beautiful world.
1. Eve. I don't like the game, but it is very beautiful and has spectatular mood music.
