New weapon options speculation

ShorunShorun Member UncommonPosts: 247

Hi!

I am really excited about the new weapon options with specializations in Heart of Thorns.

According to what we already heard and saw in snippets, this is what we know/most of us strongly believe (copied from GW2Wiki):

Ranger: Staff (Specialization: Druid)

Necromancer: Greatsword

Mesmer: Shield

Engineer: Hammer

My prediction/hopes:

Mesmer: Dagger
Why: I don't think they're only going to get 2 new skills and they only have one melee weapon at the moment. I think the daggers will provide condition damage.

Guardian: Pistols or Longbow
Why: Guardians only have one real ranged weapon, if you're not counting the staff. I think they will complement the torch, provide burning abilities and will focus on single-target damage.

Warrior: Shortbow
Why: This is really a tough one. Warriors already have a lot of weapons and options. The only thing they're missing is a midrange weapon.

Thief: Rifle
Why: I think the thief specialization with the rifle is going in a "Sniper"-direction with added cooldowns and high burst damage.

Elementalist: Sword
Why: Elementalists don't have a pure melee weapon, so I think this would add new gameplay options.

What do you think? I would really like to hear your creative speculations about which weapons are going to be added into the game!

PS: This is pure speculation for fun. Also, I hope that no thread with this topic already exists.

There's heavy speculation about guardians getting a bow (short or long), based on the announcement video, at one point it shows in the background a PvP fight seen from above, very short and from very far away so details are fuzzy. One of the characters fighting at one point is surrounded by a burst of blue light, which seems to be a guardian activating the trait to heal yourself and nearby allies on dodge, and then seems to be firing a bow.

Here's the reddit thread about it:

And here's a GIF about it (from that same thread):

A little bit to the left from the middle near the top the most noticeable thing is someone getting aegis (blue shield), which guardians can give to nearby allies by activating virtue of courage, diagonally to the bottom right of it at the same time aegis activates there's the blue light surrounding a character dodging backguards (which points to guardian), right after the dodge he seems to aim a bow and arrow to the left.

Makes sense, BTW, guardians are currently the worst characters when it comes to ranged attacks, their only main hand ranged weapon is the scepter that has an autoattack that moves so slowly it's very easy to avoid or miss, and the staff's attack is too short range.

As for the others, I hope elementalists get to dual wield swords... I want to get mine to use the fiery dragon sword in one hand and the jormag's breath in the other (looks similar to the first one but with icy effects instead of fire)... :)

Guardian is the only prof. without long range weapon. It only make sense to get long bow or rifle.

I'm thinking they might do pistols or some type of unarmed/fist weapon for whatever specialization they come up with for the warrior.  However, I thought I saw a halberd in one of the HoT promo videos, so maybe that.

They said in forums that there are no new weapons planned, that the haldberd/spear types of weapons are in the video mainly because the art department though it looked cool when they made it and they decided to leave it.

That said, we do know that the revenant uses hammer as a ranged weapon, so it wouldn't be too farfetched to have a class using staves as melee weapons.. :)

Guardian Longbow was confirmed via data mining. The skill set is posted somewhere, can't recall where though.
