Poll for new Progression server type now live in game

VesaviusVesavius Member RarePosts: 7,908

DBG on FB are talking about a poll to decide the style of a new progression server for Everquest.

This is a good thing for those of us who want such a thing, clearly, but confusingly DBG have decided to make it an ingame poll... Which seems a backward way of bringing fresh revenue into the game, but there ya go. It seems somewhat myopic to me to take this approach, but it's the one we have to work with.

So, yeah, if you want to experience the classic game, play on a fresh server, and see the game's actual owners get paid for the game that they run DL the client, log in, and have your say.

Here's hoping that they also implement and police a no boxing policy, as other servers successfully manage to do. The original game world is way to small for that kind of rubbish.

Thank you for sharing that. Do you know what the different poll choices are?

Unfortunately the in game poll was kind of confusing because it didn't have enough detail on the choices.  The listed choices were

    1) same as the current prog server

    2) same but slower progression

    3) same but progression stops... somewhere... maybe

    4) weird "seasonal challenge" where you play to a point, then someone "wins" and the server is reset

I don't even know what to say about #4.  Just... wow.

Scarily, I think #4 will have some appeal for current players looking for a new way ti wave their e-peen... Another reason that restricting it to an ingame poll won't give them a true representation of what would bring a lot of people back.

I have voted #3 myself, hoping they lock it off at SoV.

Yep that's it.  I couldn't believe that the 3 main options all included voting.

You may be right about the epeen vote on #4.  I voted #3 as well.  I hope they release the vote results so we can see how this plays out.

Reloaded my client last week. Will be voting for slower progression and getting back into practice leveling a shaman.

    Halas, here I come.

It would be lovely to level up on that side of the world tbh... Even on other classic servers it tends to be very quiet with everyone focused on Crushbone and the like.

But, then, I do like playing dorfs... Argh, decisions!

But I guess it all depends on whether we get a server model that I actually want to play :/

    Yeah, would be interesting...

I don't know how they will implement 'slower progression'.  With mercs and the general faster xp gains in the modern game, I think slower progression will have about 3/4ths the population at max level while waiting for the next expansion to be unlocked.  Even I can level a new character to level 50 in a week, and I'm about the slowest leveler ever to hit EQ.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Would the slow progression be like classic 1999 style?

    Something Awful this way comes.

Progression generally means how frequently they introduce new expansions.  Kunark, Velious, etc.  I don't know if current game features (mercenaries, defiant armor, etc.) will be available until the appropriate expansion is 'unlocked'.

    I would hope so.

I believe it is more or less on Fippy?

*edit* oh, sorry, I misunderstood your question >< I am talking about the exp gain here, natch.

The exp curves are different on the Progression servers.  Playing solo on Vulak, I didn't have the stomach to get past level 14 a few years ago.  It was actually slower than EQ Mac.  On live, you can still level to 50 in hours played.    Also mercs come with the SoD expansion so you don't have access to them until that opens up progression-wise.

    Hmmm!

I'd vote for nr 3, but I'm not installing the game just to vote.

I'll install once the vote is over and my choice won. If not, well, 2017 it is then. :)

    EDIT:

Oh, and if mercenaries are in then it doesn't matter what option win, I will not play.

I think it's taken for granted that mercs won't be in.

Why not install and just leave it installed to play? That way it's not 'just' to vote. Your voice might be the one that makes the difference.

seeds of destruction expansion would have to be unlocked in order for there to be mercs.

A few questions about the progression server:

    1. Will they revert the awful and hideous changes done to the commonlands/Freeport and make it like it was at launch?

    2. Will the boats be operational again and not those dumb fucking gnome teleporters?

    3. Will those items that scale as you level be taken out of the game as well?

    Playing: Smite, Marvel Heroes
Played: Nexus:Kingdom of the Winds, Everquest, DAoC, Everquest 2, WoW, Matrix Online, Vangaurd, SWG, DDO, EVE, Fallen Earth, LoTRo, CoX, Champions Online, WAR, Darkfall, Mortal Online, Guild Wars, Rift, Tera, Aion, AoC, Gods and Heroes, DCUO, FF14, TSW, SWTOR, GW2, Wildstar, ESO, ArcheAge
Waiting On: Nothing. Mmorpg's are dead.

This would only work if they removed defiant gear, as well as mercs.  We want the "old" EQ, not what it has become.  (for the "progression server".)   I still think that current EQ live is fun, but I'd love to have a classic EQ experience again that's not tainted like "some".
