Quick Inquiry on design

Hey all, well its to that point where im bored enough to look at both GW2 and TESO finally. I have been playing pretty much only EVE lately but I need something a bit faster now.

I'd just like to know how the world design is on both of those titles. Are there instancing/zoning between areas in GW2 and TESO? Can I run from one edge of the world to the other without hitting a loading screen? Do the ares or zones themselves also in turn have a funneling corrider style feel or are they open feeling themselves?

Thanks!

Both games have loading screens which are rather short and zones in both games have open feeling.

If running from one end of the world to another is your thing, I'd say that you might like GW2 more, since ESO zones are more "fragmented" for lack of better wording. However, none of the games give "corridor running" feeling like SWTOR does for example.

Right on, with TESO is it kind of like age of conan how the zones were seperated?

I guess what he ment is that most everything in ESO has some kind of loading screen. Caves bigger than few square meters are full loading screen and zones for themselves, most buildings will give you brief "loading screen", you push the door, screen goes black and then you just appear at the other side of the door.

In ESO maps are bigger looking top down but they are 2d "flat" no verticality, GW2 has smaller maps looking top down but most of them have levels and lot of verticality, and once youre in the zone no loading screens to enter a cavern.

    Wow, that sounds horrible.

Also how short the loading screens are depends on your Hard Drive speed as well.  If you have fast RAM and an SSD then they will be shorter than someone playing on i.e. an iMac with a 5400 RPM Drive, or most Notebook Computers running Windows with Mechanical Hard Drives.

That sounds like a horrible amount of loading during the course of a play session.

How does the game perform on mid-range hardware?

Well its not that bad unless youre entering a lot of these buildings, and there are only a couple of delves (caves) 5/map, mostly if you quest/grind youll be in the open.

And ive been using SSD for 5 years now so i have it better than most for quite a while now ;) loading times in ESO are not too bad compared to some other MMOs out there.

Buildings are near instant and really arent all annoying or " horrible ". I have a standard 7200 rpm HDD ( ram doesnt help loading times much if any ) and it is just a quick fade to black and its over.

Each zone is IMO huge so you will be doing very little loading as you play outside of using wayshrines / recalling and those are fast too.

Having played both I would say that they both have roughly the same amount of loading screens.  However, those loading screens for both games are very short.  Maybe just long enough for you to take a swig of whatever you are drinking or to tug on whatever you are smoking.

That said I would say that if you like map size then I would say GW2's has a lot more land mass, not to mention like someone else already said, the verticality.   GW2 has a lot of very high places in pretty much all of the maps that you need to climb (or some are optional to gain achievements).  Also GW2 has underwater content that can be very deep with a lot of hidden underwater caves and tunnel networks.  You can't swim underwater in ESO.  Not saying that you will never be able to in the future with that game because I don't see how that can be a technical hurdle, just that you currently can't now.
