    Why not both?

ESO and GW2 are some of the best MMOs out right now, hands-down. They each have their advantages and disadvantages (ESO has the Justice System, GW2 has Dynamic Events etc.) over one another so I'd say try both. They're both B2P and you can pick up both right now for about 50 bucks in total, so why not?

The top 2 games on my current MMO list

    1. GW2

    2. ESO

    3 WoW

why is GW2 on the top.... compared to ESO

    - Best combat.... (if you can addapt to the no trinnity)

    - Most fun exploration game

    - instanced PvP...

    - graphics are so artistic

    -Best animations of any MMO

-With living story season 2 the quests have hugely improved

    -Upcomming expansion

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Don't forget the 75% official discount tomorrow. I'm very tempted to buy a 3rd account just for the extra character slots :D plus when i started my second account it felt as if i started fresh. Cool feeling.

Both eso and gw2 look gorgeous
    Eso is a lot bigger
Eso has better written quests and voice acting,
, gw2 has good dynamic events
    Both have good pvp
    Booth have good RP
    Both have wide skills
    Both have great crafting
Neither are screwed up by endless gear/power increases, and therefore non of the associated unpleasant behaviours
    Both have forms of scaling

For me eso edges it because I feel the story telling in gw2 is a bit wooden for my tastes, but all and all both are great and represent the best 2 MMORPG in ths market for the foreseeable future. buying both is a good shout.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

Limiting yourself to a single game seems so silly to me.

The last time I played a single MMO at a time was 2003.

You can play many MMOs on rotation each week - works out fine.

Have a different playstyle than me => be so silly :D

Joking aside, it really depends on what you enjoy. I did buy GW2 on launch and I still regret the money I've put into it since the game was incredibly dull and each time I try to log in to check if anything has changed I just log right out. ESO, I pre-ordered, played for one month and dropped it because it just didn't suit me. A month ago I resubscribed and I am having a blast since.

I'd say GW2 is more of a "game" with flashy UI, timers everywhere and "run from <3 to <3" gameplay. I guess it can provide a good fast paced fun if you're into this stuff. ESO, on the other hand, is much more of an RPG - more about immersion in the world and just discovering stories, reading books, hanging out in the cities watching thieves trying their luck and then running for their live from guards...

    100% my view, of course.

    ESO a WoW clone?

Have you even played it past the first few months?

Hmm... So GW2 is NOT a class/level based? GW2 felt much more like WoW than ESO does to me, IMHO. Poorly done WoW, even.

I've played both games and would pick ESO but my reasons for picking ESO may not be reasons you necessarily care about.  I prefer MMO's with large scale PvP and classes that have stealth mechanics.  GW2 has large scale PvP and there is stealth but its limited to a few seconds, no perma-stealth like in ESO.  Also, trinity - ESO has it, GW2 doesn't.  I like to run dungeons that are organized and everyone knows their roles otherwise things turn into a cluster f*ck which happened quite frequently when I did dungeons in GW2. Last, storyline and voice overs - I was more engaged and interested in ESO's storyline and quests than GW2, especially the Aldmeri Dominion storyline.

Unless you prefer your MMO to have the same things I like in mine, then I would suggest you try both games and decide for yourself.

That's a quite good post actually. People unable to adapt to anything beside the "trinity" should definitely go for a trinity game.

And the last advice is what the OP should do. ESO goes F2P on March 17, just wait a couple of weeks and try it for free.

Just note that unlike ESO, GW2 hasn't changed its "B2P" model yet, and there's no plan to do so. There's a reason to that, too. GW2 works. ESO doesn't so well.

ESO is not going F2P - it is going B2P with an optional subscription.

Well, there is a danger in that as well. If you only play the old mechanics and don't dare to try out (and to actually learn, unlike what many people here seems to think do GW2 have group dynamics for dungeons, but you actually have to learn it) you might miss out a lot of stuff.

The only problem is of course that it usually takes a while in a modern MMO before you enter a challenging dungeon and can start to learn those mechanics and if you learn them and don't like them you have wasted a lot of time and money.

It is a misstake to not at least try out new experiences, like listening to new types of music, trying out new food from different parts of the world and so on. Or at least for me it makes life pretty boring and predictable. Once you tried you can decide what you like and don't.

Note: but avoid trying really dangerous or illegal stuff.

The only negative I could say about Gw2 is that its a bit CPU bound. Now don't get me wrong, it works great on my FX-8350 and my boyfriend's overclocked i5-2500k, but going below that might have unfriendly consequences, regardless of GPU class.

Also keep in my that the 2500k is by now 4 year old processor. Anything newer than that, you're probably golden. He does play on highest of settings but in massive encounters he goes below 60 fps and stabilizes around 35-40.

without a list and solid proof your claim is just hot air.

I would agree eso is much better than gw2 but that's just my opinion as well, at the end of the day both games are awesome in different ways and the best today.

In GW2, at max level, you can go anywhere in the world, and your level will be adapted, you won't be some immortal god, and you will get the rewards fitting your real level.

This is the difference between a WoW clone, where level is everything and makes you a god, and GW2, where level is merely a counter of your progression among others but doesn't stop you of enjoying 75% or more of the world's content because you won't get any significant reward anyway.

Well if by WoW-clone you mean "no zone level scaling" then still no, not really. Because ESO has level scaling for veteran content and all the new DLC zones coming use level scaling as well. We can only speculate that this is a new trend set by Zenimax and that they will do all the future zones in this way, maybe even turning the old ones into scaling ones...

And also, I fail to see how disagreeing with a statement as ridiculous as "ESO is a generic WoW clone" makes one a troll :D

I have put quite a few hours in both of these. OP it seems this has turned into a fanboi competition. They are two different style of games and there is no real right choice...no one can tell you how you feel about something. Both games have goods and bad things about them, do some homework on youtube.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Neither eso or gw2 are wow clones, far far from it, but I think anyone who plays these games knows this, neither are stale gear whore raiding games and both have drastically different end games.

Played both waiting for ESO to go free since I bought the base game.

I have both. Played GW2 for the first few months after release and quickly grew bored. I still return occasionally but won't be purchasing the xpac.

I'm still playing and enjoying ESO immensely as I find the game play and world more to my taste.

This is all personal opinion, not fanboism.

I played both games. But right now i'm back in ESO! 1.6

Well.... It's the game that was intended from the beginning... i mean 1.0.

    It's sooo good right now!

You should give it a try.

In GW2 i hate the crafting and gathering system...
